  8. Unless you've been living under a rock for months or weeks, it appears that what's going on at Ch. 13 appears to be upping the ante. Ch. 13 Reporter Kevin Quinn has resigned after 15 years with the ABC O&O Station in order to spend with family, but it'll be interesting to see where Quinn lands next. However, he's not the only one leaving Ch. 13 as there's been speculation swirling around longtime employees exiting from engineering, community affairs & beyond over the last few months. Mike McGuff's Ch. 13 contact David Lee bolted from the ABC O&O Station as well... he went to ABC 7 WLS-TV Chicago, IL. The Los Angeles Times had an article from October of 2017, which reported the ABC Television Group was going to have layoffs across the board (Ch. 13 is owned by the Disney ABC Television Group). Then the best media blogger around, Robert Feder, reported layoffs at ABC 7 WLS-TV Chicago (Sister Station). http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2018/03/kevin-quinn-resigns-from-ktrk-abc13.html Let me know your thoughts on Quinn leaving Ch. 13 & the overall fallout of what's been going on with the ABC O&O Station.
  9. Ch. 13 KTRK-TV Houston has reported that Houston City Councilman Larry Green (D) of District K since 2012, was found dead at his residence this morning according to HPD. He was 52 years old. According to HPD, a missed meeting had people concerned & welfare check at the Green residence, where they found him. It appears that Green died of natural causes. HPD says that Green's death remains under investigation, but there appeared to be no foul play. He was first elected to the newly-formed District K in 2011, which serves from the edge of the TX Medical Center to the portion of Houston within Fort Bend County. He was sworn into office on January 2nd, 2012 & was reelected in 2013 & 2015, which included the first 4-year term when Green won his 3rd & final term of office. During his 1st term on the Houston City Council, Green brought more than $20 million worth of economic development projects to his district, which includes the Houston police station & street construction & repairs. He also pushed to see that women-owned businesses were included into Houston's affirmative action contracting program. Green earned his BA in Political Science from the University of Houston & JD from the Thurgood Marshall Law School of TX Southern University. He was also a member of the Greater Houston Partnership, a former Board Trustee of Brentwood Baptist Church; board member of the TX Black Expo & College of Science & Technology Advisory Board at TX Southern University. http://abc13.com/politics/houston-council-member-larry-green-dies-at-52/3182154/ http://www.houstontx.gov/council/k/about.html

  18. Today was the LAST day for Rita Garcia at FOX 26 KRIV-TV Houston after 6 years with the Houston FOX affiliate. Plus, Garcia will be going to FOX sister station, FOX 11 KTTV-TV Los Angeles, CA. While there's no word on what she'll be doing, someone found a Google search of video demos that Garcia was doing in early October for KTTV's "Good Day LA" Morning Show (The legendary Steve Edwards is still there from what I hear & for those, who don't remember: the "Good Day Live" TV Show, which was on FOX 26 & other FOX affiliates in the early 2000's). "She's one of the best, hard to see her go, but so happy for her bright future," said Morning Anchor Melissa Wilson. Garcia joined FOX 26 back in December of 2011 from Los Angeles, so it's a return to the City of Angels for her. The then-CBS 2 KCBS-TV Los Angeles freelance reporter joined the FOX 26 family as Weekend Anchor & Reporter. Less than 2 years later, she moved up to the weekday morning newscasts, where she's been ever since until today. The Lone Star State native began her TV News career in Welasco, TX with ABC 5 KRGV-TV. Garcia holds BA Degrees from Texas State University of San Marcos (Mass Communications & Spanish). https://www.facebook.com/RitaGarciaFOX26/ http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2017/12/rita-garcia-leaving-fox-26-for-fox-11-KTTV-LA.html Post your thoughts on Garcia's departure & her return to the City of Angels.
