  1. That Kroger is awful and I think the product lineup was selected by some number cruncher in Cincinnati. Seems like they only considered demographics for immediate area rather than things like, for example, that the Kroger on 20th Street is dry. The Studemont Kroger should have good beer selection, but doesn't.

Ah, the Kroger on 20th. The "Zombie" Kroger. A place you can go and actually witness a check being written for groceries. All kidding aside, I hope this one survives. It will be a sad day for the old(er) folks that go there if it closes.

  2. Wow, this is shocking news! Why are we just now hearing about this! We should have started a facebook page about this...or something!

By the way, that Kroger is STILL the best Kroger in the area. Much hotter chicks than the one on 11th.

Yeah but it doesn't have a cool name yet like the "Disco" Kroger. My favorite name is the "Cougar" Kroger for the W.Gray store.

  3. This is not in the retail center. Its in the building I said would be great for a bar or pub if it wasn't dry. I was then informed by somebody that there is simply too much traffic on Shepherd and thats why nobody would put something in a space like that.

    Hmmm....who might that have been?

I wish them the best. It is good to see something go into that dead zone between Shep and Durham.

  4. Has Torchy's bailed out of the Harold's re-development?  There is a space available sign up in the window.  The permits that were in the window have been taken down.  There were also some architect's plans inside the building that are no longer there.  According to reports at the end of December, Torchy's and Heights General Store would have fully leased the building.  So, either one or the other has baild or has cut back their square footage.

The "Space Available" sign usually stays up after the space has been leased. The agent usually has other properties to show prospective clients.

  5. Re: repeat

I got an error from the server when I pushed post so I tried a couple more times and got the same error. I figured the board was down an gave up. I didn't realize that it even posted at all.

But you're right, I was stressed about the renegade cart situation!! :)

I figured it was ongoing stress from living so close to the Yale St. Bridge of Death and a Walmart.

  6. I actually saw a Target shopping cart abandoned near 16th and Heights today.  With the Fiesta at 14th closed, who's going to go around and pick up shopping carts, RUDH?

  7. I bet the people sitting on their porch who are relaxing after working a 3rd shift somewhere and see the same car driving by daily are telling each other that the unemployed person who keeps driving through their neighborhood (sometimes several times a day) is what is ruining the place.

When you take a single data point without any other context you have no real frame of reference.

Of course, you're welcome to draw whatever conclusions you want based on your own experience, but don't expect others to agree with your conclusions, based on their own experience.

My personal experience has been very positive, I was out riding bicycles with some friends through 4th ward late at night, my friends bike broke and we didn't have the right Allen wrench, we saw some guys hanging out on the porch of their rundown shotgun shack and asked if they had a tool we could borrow, they happily obliged and we were back on our way shortly. Very nice guys.

:o They didn't try to steal your stuff or sell you crack!? :o You must be one of "them".

  8. Probably change, and whatever remains of hope.

I'm going to call BS on your statement that it's hard for single men to get welfare. I really don't see today's government turning anyone down for any sort of dependance, um,err, assistance. If a person can some how eff-up getting on the government gravy train then there is little hope for them. For heavens sake, we fund groups like Acorn to insure everyone gets pie.

The ACORN bogeyman no longer exists.

  9. I also live within three blocks of an apartment complex in the Houston Heights subdivision. I saw someone from the complex buy drugs from a pusher who drove up in broad daylight while I was walking my child down the street. The complex is filthy and is constantly checkered with red tags from the City.

The apartments proposed on Yale do not bother me except that everyone who has come in after Walmart has been getting a free ride on their traffic impact. If the Orr, Ainbinder and apartment traffic impacts were all considered in a single study, no traffic engineer would have ever been able to sign off on the study without requiring some pretty radical mitigation measures.

Maybe you would be better off focusing your efforts on this complex instead of every new project that comes up.
