Isn't the "Dallas Street Retail" project a city project? Could the city have offered the mom and pop stores some sort or concessions for ripping up the street for so long?It will be nice when it's all done - but I feel bad for that coffee shop and the existing retail. Drove past the other night and no one at the coffee shop but the barista - on a saturday night.
I want to tell them to HOLD the line - better times are coming - hope they can hold on.

I like the guy who has the biggest single dreadlock I've ever seen, like literally all of his hair (which goes down to his waist) is one giant dreadlock, shaped like a huge rectangle. It's so matted it doesn't move. I think a few street rats call that nest home.

Lol, not really.I'm gonna go ahead and use my higgly intelligent deductive skills to assume crane operators have legs for days.
You'd be surprised at how out of shape most of the guys I work with are.
You only make that climb twice a day, once in the morning, and then when your shift is over. The other 12 hours you're just sitting on your ass.
The higher cranes usually have an elevator on the building that takes you most of the way up.

Am I the only one wishing this was still in downtown in the same cool looking historic structure?
That area of midtown would be so much cleaner, albeit all the trash would be in downtown, but, wouldn't that be more acceptable?

But it IS downtown!I guess it takes away the downtown view from the southeast on the Pierce elevated.
This building has "stretched the skyline" all the way to the furthest southeast corner of downtown proper, although it's not exactly a skyline changer, it's part of our skyline now...

Maybe the Hotel Logo will really dress it up.

I read it like he was referring to the perspective of a couple of lovebirds checking in at this hotel suddenly losing the urge to bump uglies when they see this pile of vomit stacked 14 stories high.I hope this isn't deleted just so that everyone would realize their complaints will never reach the level of this one. This is the hottest take, and it's a beauty.
There are just so many great ways to read this comment, most notably the idea that someone is either walking downtown or browsing HAIF at maximum torque while looking at the construction. Perfect.
Architectural salt-peter, if you will.

I'm generally against lots of government regulation, I don't think giving them a say do over what does or doesn't get built is a bad idea.
That being said, I'm not against some other way of regulating final structure appearance, but how?

There are too many damn "powers that be" in Houston.
It's getting old.

Butt hurt much? People don't go down telephone and lawndale bc they don't want to get robbed. Maybe in 20 yrs...

Yes, I am fully aware of how easy it is to get around without a car whenever I'm in NY, it's unbelievable, you can go literally anywhere in the city in a breeze, the trains and buses are so well connected. Truly a marvel of mass transit, the finest system in the world. I am so jealous.Yes indeed, (all political bs aside) the next mayor/council MUST find a way to proceed with mass transit, full-speed-ahead. Houston has become a gigantic clusterf*ck, and it gets worse everyday; especiallly with the continual influx of people. I'm in NY right now, and it's a breeze getting all around town on the trains.

Oooohh!Heard a rumor that a new music venue is going in, and a "luxury" bowling alley too. There might even be a Piano bar, or a low tier fashion store there as well. A few restaurants have been confirmed as well. Who knows, maybe one day they'll put in a hotel too!
You know what really anchor this development? A House Of Blues!
One can only dream!

Wow. Post oak is going to be mad dense, and isn't even close to being fully built out yet.
Traffic will be a nightmare, which is scary because it already is a nightmare.

Yeah. I love it.
I wish the high point on the roof (the unoccupied area) was just a little higher and sharper, maybe with spires/poles like that med center building that looks like a sailboat.

Pretty much.So 90 minutes from Dallas to Houston, then another 90 minutes via bus/rented car to downtown? Haha.
Might as well catch a flight from DFW to Bush then catch a cab downtown, the extra cost would be negligible.
-
Or maybe we could have, I don't know, JUST HAD THE F*****G TRAIN GO ALL THE WAY TO DOWNTOWN.No doubt there will be a taxi stand. And rental cars.
Plus, isn't the Northwest Transit Center about a half mile down the road? I would think there would be a shuttle.
JESUS CHRIST this cow town is just one massive fail after the other.

True indeed. I forgot how glorious this building is going to look when complete. It will break up the monotony of the skyline, adding a slight jagged edge. God bless Gerald Hines. This will at least be sloped.
