  1. I'm curious, but how does Constable patrol work in your area? In Midtown, they are contracted out to patrol the neighborhood and are available for every homeowner if they call them (usually get them in two minutes). Do you have to individually pay for them in the Heights?

Yes, we pay a few hundred bucks a year and have a dedicated phone number for subscribers only. They patrol the entire Heights area I believe.

  2. Well, I added a full function alarm to my garage...In the process of doing so I discovered I was missing another tool...of course it was my most expensive one that I seldom use...was not very happy about that. But oh well. I bought a pretty neat alarm, upgraded the siren...inside the garage is an 80db siren, but outside its 220db....its not just loud - its obnoxiously loud....It has a dialer and it can call anyone you want....Im not going to put that on my monitoring...just going to monitor it myself. I'm betting I have a faster response time than HPD for an alarm anyway.

I have a pretty active block, and I have two dogs, plus a full fence - My neighbors across the street work from home, and are outside much of the day - though they can not see that part of my garage b/c my house blocks it....I also have another neighbor who is retired and he is there ALL the time...I seldom see him leave, and none of it mattered. When they are coming over the fence in an alley, their chances of being seen are almost zero at night...now if they enter the garage they are going to have all of a few seconds to get the hell out before I meet them....and I am pretty sure they do not want to meet me....I will not be gentle...

ironically...or not...I got a flyer for the constable patrol on my gate Friday....Either its really good timing or they follow the police reports and hand one out to everyone that gets robbed....I think I may cancel my home alarm monitoring, have my alarm programmed to call me, and then just pay for the constable patrol. Its probably much better/faster than using the alarm company that will just call HPD, who will put it as a low priority call....about the same cost too.

If you need any more convincing, we've had very, very good responses with the Constable patrol. A few calls for nuisance-type stuff that was followed up on very quickly, a few calls for suspicious persons that was followed up on in under 5 minutes, and a panic call (possible attempted break-in/home invasion) that had 2 cars (3 cops) there, guns drawn, in under 2 minutes. Worth every penny, if you ask me.

  3. We have a dog, which helps a lot. Sometimes we dogsit a friend's pup too, who is a bit more dominant and barks at anything that moves in front of our house.

We also have a pain in the butt neighbor who complains that our dogs set off the neighbor's dogs, which sets off another dog, etc etc. during daylight hours, when someone is near our property. Of course, she isn't home during the daytime, but god forbid that prevents her from complaining to me. (as a sidenote, any suggestions on how to deal with a neighbor like that?)

  4. Lately there is diminished activity at Halbert Park. Maybe it's because many of them got arrested, but it's probably mostly because of the construction that's made the park less desirable for a hang out.

I just figured they were all at home studying for finals :-)

  5. I just want to know how Sale-Sucre plans on running a business when they obviously will be undersold by walmart, overrun by children and wild cats, while Yale is being repaved and Ruggles/not ruggles is indirectly competing against them, all while not having a developer like airbinder to get them a 380 agreement...

I also am curious about their food.

    Bravo! :)

  6. I don't really have anything to add, but I jog along this trail regularly without ID. Who jogs with a wallet or anything else for that matter? Houston drivers are crazy and this could happen to anyone. Of course this may not have been the drivers fault.

Yeah I run all the time and carry nothing. I sweat like a damn pig, anything I carry would be destroyed. Big government should just give me my barcode tattoo or chip implant so I can be located whenever I go off my rocker and get lost.

<$20 to spare your family some significant grief.

  7. That's nuts! Glad the dog helped. I went into work late last week and saw a shady guy with a shopping cart walking up to several houses and looking through the front door in my neighborhood. Called the Constable patrol - they arrived in about 30 seconds (kudos to them)... they must be on extra alert for break-ins.

Tell your friend to find the best screenshot they can, and print out 100 color copies. Plaster them around the neighborhood and offer a reward. That'll scare these guys away, and might even entice one of their buddies to turn them in.

  8. No i didn't see the act, but I saw them leaving the parking lot really quickly, and noticed the damage/red paint aftewards. That was the only place i'd parked since leaving my house, and I had just cleaned that headlight before leaving (it had bird poo on it, so they actually hit the one clean spot of the car)

If I'd seen it you'd better believe I woulda chased em down and got the plate #.

Maybe if you speak with the manager you can find out who paid their bill around the time of the hit

  9. I went over and tried it last night. I thought it was very good. I tried the Ahi Tuna sandwich, and it was so good I could have had another....instead I opted for a shake. Which, was also good.

I would like to point out since nobody else has that it does not have any alcohol unlike other Becks. I asked at the counter and they told me they are BYOB, and provide Frozen beer mugs and wine glasses to their customers.

BYOB is great news! I absolutely love bringing my own drinks to a restaurant...it usually cuts my tab by 50% or more.

    I will be back!

    Awesome!

    BYOB/Corkage fee?

  10. We'd like to thank all those that have supported us over the last 10 months because without you we wouldn't have been able to expand into Sugar Land. Here's to spreading the cheese!!! :D

Wow! Congratulations! That's really great that you're able to open a 2nd location within the first year. Kudos to you and your friendly neighborhood restaurant!

Now, can you fix that nasty pothole upon entering your parking lot? :-)

  11. The neighborhood is turning from a nice play with friendly folks, to a place full of people who not only know better than you do what is good for you and your property, but are also so chicken turd, they are afraid to confront you about anything...instead of being neighborly they resort to ordinances, police, and other means that are indirect because they are afraid of confrontation. Always willing to let someone else do the dirty work, but more than happy to go vote anonymously for something.

Sounds like a Home Owners Association.

Wait, I thought The Heights didn't have HOA's?

  12. I just called Ruggles. They claim the lot is still open to whomever wants to park there, even when the valet is there, which will only be Fri-Sun. They are working out an agreement with the church next door to use their lot as well. He still didn't give me a clear answer about where the valets would be parking peoples' cars though. Oh well. Seems like the best scenario- options.

That conflicts with my experience. We pulled in to the lot, waited about a minute for a car to pull out, then parked our own vehicle. On the way out of the car the valet gave us a ticket and asked for our key. After our meal, we returned to find the valet had graciously (/sarcasm) turned our car 180 degrees. I then gave him my ticket, got my key back, begrudgingly gave him $1, and pulled my own vehicle back out.

That's not valet, that's a paid parking lot.

EDIT: It was in the parking lot in back (South side of the restaurant)
