  1. Yes, we pay a few hundred bucks a year and have a dedicated phone number for subscribers only. They patrol the entire Heights area I believe.
  2. If you need any more convincing, we've had very, very good responses with the Constable patrol. A few calls for nuisance-type stuff that was followed up on very quickly, a few calls for suspicious persons that was followed up on in under 5 minutes, and a panic call (possible attempted break-in/home invasion) that had 2 cars (3 cops) there, guns drawn, in under 2 minutes. Worth every penny, if you ask me.
  3. We have a dog, which helps a lot. Sometimes we dogsit a friend's pup too, who is a bit more dominant and barks at anything that moves in front of our house. We also have a pain in the butt neighbor who complains that our dogs set off the neighbor's dogs, which sets off another dog, etc etc. during daylight hours, when someone is near our property. Of course, she isn't home during the daytime, but god forbid that prevents her from complaining to me. (as a sidenote, any suggestions on how to deal with a neighbor like that?)
  4. I just figured they were all at home studying for finals :-)
  5. Please restate you question with a generalized comment about Walmart, Children, Paving Roads, Wild cats, Ruggles, and Airbinder, and someone will gladly respond :-)
  6. I wonder what would happen if someone just painted a crosswalk on the road, or at least a big "LOOK!" on either side? Would the city come and wash it off?
  7. <$20 to spare your family some significant grief. http://www.roadid.com/Common/Catalog.aspx?C=RoadID#3
  8. That's nuts! Glad the dog helped. I went into work late last week and saw a shady guy with a shopping cart walking up to several houses and looking through the front door in my neighborhood. Called the Constable patrol - they arrived in about 30 seconds (kudos to them)... they must be on extra alert for break-ins. Tell your friend to find the best screenshot they can, and print out 100 color copies. Plaster them around the neighborhood and offer a reward. That'll scare these guys away, and might even entice one of their buddies to turn them in.
  9. Yeah, this is beyond absurd. I hadn't even made the connection until I read the article.
  10. Why don't you go ask the owner? Looks like he has a Chiropractic clinic at 1050 Heights. Dr. Brian Hawkins
  11. Maybe if you speak with the manager you can find out who paid their bill around the time of the hit
  12. Wow! Congratulations! That's really great that you're able to open a 2nd location within the first year. Kudos to you and your friendly neighborhood restaurant! Now, can you fix that nasty pothole upon entering your parking lot? :-)
  13. I saw patio tables set up this weekend at Beck's. Probably opening very soon.
  14. Lot cleared, land for sale: http://search.har.com/engine/1135-S-Heights-Bl-Houston-77008-6915_HAR62660564.htm $825,000
  15. Yeah, not well advertised. Pretty sure they share a space with the kids store @ 8th and Studewood. EDIT: Yup. http://maps.google.com/maps/place?q=frosted+betty&hl=en&cid=9597490720536219746
  16. The DownHouse is now open for dinner, FYI. I've had 2 phenomenal experiences there for lunch so far.
  17. Sounds like a Home Owners Association. Wait, I thought The Heights didn't have HOA's?
  18. That conflicts with my experience. We pulled in to the lot, waited about a minute for a car to pull out, then parked our own vehicle. On the way out of the car the valet gave us a ticket and asked for our key. After our meal, we returned to find the valet had graciously (/sarcasm) turned our car 180 degrees. I then gave him my ticket, got my key back, begrudgingly gave him $1, and pulled my own vehicle back out. That's not valet, that's a paid parking lot. EDIT: It was in the parking lot in back (South side of the restaurant)
  19. "almost"???? $3 in negligence and malice. Malice? Like, the bar did it on purpose?
  20. more trouble... http://www.ultimateheights.com/stories/252407-courts-employee-files-3-million-lawsuit-against-heights-sports-bar-after-bottle-allegedly-explodes
