  1. Well, its the center of "West Houston." The city is getting so large and so hard to get around its causing the trend of all these centers and market areas to be constructed. They serve the "little towns" that are within the city. This project has to be careful with the tenants though, unlike the suburbs the shopping could be very redundant if they don't choose wisely. So far I think they are being a little more original, except for Bistro and Flemings.
  2. Yeah, we were looking at some new construction in Little Tanglewood and there was "Spy 9" all along the culvert and on the custom, wood garage door. Nice to promote yourself on private property.
  3. Too me buying a Brownstone for over 850k in Memorial makes far more sense than buying a Brownstone for the same price in Kingwood or the Woodlands. You can get a McMansion for that up there. Urban living in an urban area is desirable. I agree, you can't hear the freeway from there. Once more buildings go up, the more the noise will be cut down. Its urban living in an urban area.
  4. Good idea. Seems to me graffiti is picking up lately. I hate to see that stuff. It doesn't scare anyone, its just a major annoyance.
  5. We are seeing a lot of "SPY9" tagging in West Houston. Is this a gang? Anyone know any background? It seems to be all over the Galleria area and in places in eastern Memorial. Prolific little group.
  6. With all the choices of places to live in Houston, why would anyone plunk down a large sum of money to live near a prison? I think its funny, The Upscale Living-Prison Included package. When signs in the area say, "Don't pick up Hitchikers," that ought to tell you something.
  7. Its a neat house and a HUGE lot. But that section of Memorial, which the house backs to, sounds like a freeway these days, so you would have to have a lot of sound tolerance. Also, everytime it rains someone drives through the brick wall of Wilchester.
  8. No I was merely observing that they have a 2-3 signs up in that section.
  9. Trendmaker Homes has certainly picked up a few lots along this strip.
  10. Its not just Katy. The Mexican Gangs are becoming more and more visable. I visited a friend in West Tanglewood this Friday and the run-off was tagged all the way down it, all the houses that cornered it had been tagged. They are crawling all around West Memorial lately. A group of them attempted a break-in in Nottingham in broad daylight. Neighbors stopped them, but they could have been shot in that process. they cruise around Memorial, they want us to know they are here. We keep that door open on the border, the police are not allowed to check ID, etc We will quickly become more like Mexico. Crime infested. I don't want to live in Mexico, and neither do most of the good citizens of that country. At some point you start to think Joe Horn isn't such a bad guy. We need to take Houston back. Royal Oaks isn't really out of town. But it does have that whole burb flavor/personality going on. Therefore I don't see the ultra-rich making the move to that area. The Woodlands is just too far away for Houstonian Ultra rich.
  11. Hey Techo, I'm in Yorkshire. I shop the Randalls at TC or the Rice. That Kroger is bad and depressing. How does it stay open? Interesting the lease sign has been up on it for 10 years. Its always been pretty junkie in that stretch of Memorial. With all the recent vacancies, maybe some facelifitng will occur. Hubby grew up In Wilchester West and he said the Kroger was bad even back then.
  12. Yep its the Santa Fe sign. But I just noticed it so it much be a new and bigger one, or they replaced it. It seem like its for the Kroger only. Have they been trying to lease the Kroger out for years?
  13. oh joy, now you have to listen to the person next to you clicking away. If they start allowing cell phone usage on planes its going to be a nightmare.
  14. I agree Cnote. The most important thing for Woodlands residents to do is admit that there is crime, instead of pretending it can't touch them. The winding streets are not a factor for criminals looking for an opportunity. They can use them to their advantage too and probably will. Besides there are several ways out now, its not like there is only one way in and one way out. Seems to me lately that the Woodlands and Sugarland are pretty much on par for incidents. Both pretty minimal for now.
  15. I had a feeling that's what was going on. This explains the lease sign on the old West Memorial one. In my searching for info on this I came across the builder's website for the Brownstones in CIty Center. The builder was claiming a Randalls (which is already there) and a Kroger in the complex (currently not there).
  16. The is the one on Memorial west of Kirkwood, not the one on Briar Forest. Its been bad for a long time...at least in comparison to the other stores in the area. I don't think its been cosmetically touched since the 70's.
  17. Its pretty old and nasty now. The Randalls ( Dairy Ashford and Town and Country)does most of the business for the neighborhoods. Hubby said he was getting gas last month at the Valero next door and the cashier had the door locked, the Kroger had just been robbed. Not to mention there is a Super HEB up at Westhiemer and a HEB Pantry a couple blocks down.
  18. Funny, they have a lease sign up on the Kroger in West Memorial too. Its a pretty old and dingy store. Is Kroger just down sizing its Houston presence by shutting down its non-Signature stores?
  19. There's a big lease sign up on the Kroger west of Kirkwood. Its got to be one of the oldest and most depressing grocery stores in the area. Does anyone know if Kroger is finally closing up shop?
  20. And now a police Officer(off duty) was crtitically wounded during a gunfire exchange, at one of those apartments at Parametta and I-45. Right around 1960. That's far enough north from Greenspoint that you can't blame Northern Harris crime on Greenspoint along anymore.
  21. We were coming back from New Orleans via I-10 and I thought we could do the Beltway North up the Woodlands and avoid city traffic. Boy was I suprised to find out that Beltway 8 is not a Freeway in that section. On the upside I got to see places I never new existed. Summerwood and all the hubcap resale stores along the way.
  22. The NW Metro is loaded with Walmarts. Do you really need another one? Upscale Walmart is an oxymoron if I ever read one.
  23. It sure is, and the traffic in West Memorial is getting pretty nutty lately too. Everyone is on Memorial in the morning. Fortunately they will be widening Memorial, west of the Beltway, making a very much needed left turn lane all the way down the middle. Luckily you don't have to drive very far around here to get what you need.
  24. Wow, I'm stunned. He has a young baby too doesn't he?
  25. Memorial City's Cinemark is very nice. Its clean and always has security in the parking area. Doesn't seem to have the same ganstalicious feeling of Edwards on Ol' Katy.
