  1. I think the shaded area south of River Oaks that's designated "Uptown/Galleria" should be called either Greenway or Upper Kirby.
  2. There's one in Fort Lauderdale that's in that range as well. I think it would work here, provided that we a.) get a team and b.) have someone proactive in getting a stadium built.
  3. The simple solution would've been to take Mercer I and Mercer II and put them back to back. This way, the facades of both buildings would be facing outward, hiding the hideousness of its rear. As it stands, the two buildings will essentially look like a single building that was dissected, as if a lesson to designers on how not to do anything half-a**ed.
  4. I think the weather angle is overplayed by some (not you, 27, but others). The MarqE complex isn't completely enclosed either (has an atrium and and a covered midway that's only slight air conditioned), and it does fairly well, especially on weekends. I would imagine that if the Pavillions has a nice mix of retail, food and fun (as well as residential), it'll have at least as much of a draw on weekends. People in south and SE Houston as well as the neartown neighborhoods would be inclined to come into downtown since there would be more to do than go to an aquarium, shoot pool or get drunk.
  5. Well, since Wheeler Station is the proposed terminal connection for the Westpark-Uptown extension, I tend to doubt that anything major will go up there before that new segment is built. At that point, it probably would make an excellent site for a major mixed-use development. First things first, though: the Camden development on the superblock needs to get started so that the idea of implementing new residential and retail along the rail line will gain even more steam.
  6. I echo the sentiments shared by all here. I'm originally from Miami and can guarantee you that the average May day here in Houston isn't as hot or as humid as what you can come across in south and central Florida. Still, expect highs to be anywhere between 83 - 93. Expect humidity to be in the upper 70s when high and no less than 60% at the lowest. Expect some run-through showers that'll cool things off for a couple of hours before it warms up again. Expect nice evening breezes, especially for the first two or three weeks. Expect muggy mornings that eventually become comfortable mornings before becoming fairly warm afternoons. It'll pretty much be like how it is today except add about five degrees to your midday and evening temps. No biggie. June, July, August and early September, however, are a different matter.
  7. Unfortunately, I keep associating the ZaZa name with Zsa Zsa Gabor, and I'm not sure that's a good thing.
  8. I knew something didn't seem to add up about the LTAWACS here compared to the one we see at SSP and SSC. Funny how these things happen. Good to have the original posting again.
  9. He certainly seems to have a charm about him that people who are likely to vote tune into.
  10. I could be wrong, but I think LTAWACS is saying something along the lines of, "They chose The Woodlands over the city, to avoid the city, and now they face being in the city anyway. Next time, choose the city first." I could be wrong, though.
  11. Pasadena's far southeast limits stretch all the way down to the Clear Lake area, where there is not only Clear Lake but a couple other smaller bodies of water. That said, the location could very well be a typo.
  12. The way I interpret this is that the moratorium expires in 2011, and such an expiration would open the door for the COH to begin annexation if it so desires.
  13. 'Coog is right. Riverside Terrace, University Oaks and MacGregor Estates are nearby--to the west and northwest. Plenty of $$$ in those neighborhoods. I also agree that the park needs better connection to the bayou.
  14. It appears that The Collective's design complements the design of the Perry Homes development on the eastbound side of Elgin across from Baldwin Park.
  15. But then what do you say to the significant number of people who feel that lighting such as what you see on the Bank of America building in Dallas is tacky? I could be wrong, but I think this is why you don't see many corporate logos on Houston's buildings anymore. Some people really find aggressive lighting tacky. So who's right? Personally, I like the lighting on Atlanta's downtown skyscrapers. Not too garish, IMO.
  16. I could be wrong, but I believe the next owners' meeting in May is when they plan to make the announcement.
  17. Outside of Beltway 8, I think the 225 is one of Houston's best freeways. Manicured, more or less, and decorated with interesting palms (don't know the name of the particular variety). The lanes have been redone and it's probably the smoothest ride in the metro outside of the revamped portion of the West Loop from the Southwest Frwy to S. Post Oak. The chemical plants and refineries and the fact that most of the neighborhoods immediately adjacent to the freeway are pretty low income are the likely factors behind the average person's disdain. Oh, and the other fact that there's nothing really "snazzy" along that corridor save for the San Jacinto Battlefied site.
  18. LOL For some reason, LTAWACS' use of the word "small-timers" makes me laugh. Bill White = small-timer. The image/caption just makes me snicker for some reason.
  19. As I keep saying, the area to really look at is the Washington Avenue / West End corridor. The changes to that corridor over the last four years is astounding, and it's just heating up. The eyesores that are the gutted, empty storefronts from the 60s and 70s are in position to be bought up in droves because the number of residents in that area has trippled since 1999. I'm interested to see what the upcoming shopping complex slated for Sawyer Street along I-10 will look like.
  20. Speaking of the old Days Inn, I still see people with hard hats going in and out, pretty much every day save for weekends. I have no clue what they could be doing, though, because they never seem to be doing any work. Could these be homeless people who are using the hard hats as a ruse to sneak in and out of the building? If so, pretty clever.
  21. Is that a picture of the Atlanta development in Buckhead that the developer of the Memorial City project put together? The article I read on the subject suggested that the Memorial City project would be a bigger version of the one built in Atlanta.
