Stopped by the site this afternoon and talked to the crew chief. He said that they were excavating the site to 17 feet below ground.
He also said something that was very interesting. He said that once this project is finished there is talk that the hotel just north of this site
will be demolished and a sixty six story tower will take its place. Nice rumor. Images of the excavation will come when Brijonmang downloads for me.
It's a skinny site, so maybe we'll get a NYC lipstick tower?

The garage top pool will have awesome views of Target and the Skyhouse garage. Luxury only Houston can provide.

I believe they had control of the current site of 609 Main back around the time they were developing BG Group Place, circa 2008. There was a fuzzy rendering on here of a building for that site and rumor that development was imminent but then the recession hit. So it seems like they held onto that site for around 5-6 years before 609 Main was announced.

Mayor Turner gave what apparently is the first ever state of mobility address and it's getting good reviews. Here it is in full

There are so many interesting videos about Houston and what is going on out there. I'm an unabashedly Houston homer and love searching and watching these videos as I'm sure most of you are. Sometimes it's hard to find a place to post them. This can be that place:
Here's one to get us going. This one is probably more marketing than anything else, but still fun.

With their dryer climate I would guests they have more better weather days than us.

The Main Street Enhancement Project focuses on safety, aesthetics, environmental considerations and connectivity. Residents, business owners, visitors and tourists will benefit from the upgrades made to area, which is an important site for transit between NRG Stadium and downtown. More lighting and widened sidewalks are just a couple of enhancements on this project. From an aesthetics standpoint, new landscaping and street furniture will accentuate the modern look and feel of the area, encouraging merchants to set up businesses in the area, and welcoming residents to look to Midtown for their new home. The project will also encourage nearby private development.

My friend is a land surveyor and he said just last week they finished up some surveying for Regent Square.

It would be near their current park? What would they do with old one?

What I've come to realize about downtown architecture since I've had the opportunity to observe it on a regular basis is how awesome the older architecture is.
To me, the older buildings have a refined beauty up close and I'm in awe at the detail and craftsmanship and thought put into it.
While I still really like the more modern stuff, I think it's better appreciated in a skyline photo or the freeway and not so much for a pedestrian. You have to throw back your head from the street level to truly appreciate it. The classics can be admired from top to bottom.
The more modern buildings seem to be more about engineering and less about pure beauty. My 2 cents.

How do you guys feel this compares to Post Midtown Square?
They're very similar. But Regent Square has more square footage and taller buildings, a park and includes retail. Both have all their buildings street facing and are apart of the street scene unlike ROD.
Post midtown was truly the first of its kind in Houston. RS however takes it to another level.
It would be a shame if developers didn't do their best to follow its lead after this starts to build out - embarrassing, really.

Hopefully like the original ROD plans with the high rises.

The question assumes it would be the best of each era.
Y'all think the categories okay? Although I like looking at architecture, I'm not an architecture buff in terms of eras and style names.

Not a bad idea. It would be nice to have that sculpture in a more accessible spot.
Discovery Green Conservancy seems like a good place to start, or maybe one or more of the Conservancy's board members or officers.
Wouldn't hurt to contact the Mayor too.
Maybe somewhere in Buffalo Bayou would be better? DG is kind of packed already
