Related to the Houston First proposal or a new project altogether?

While Bill is a pioneer in historic preservation in Houston, some might be surprised to find out he's also building a shiny new convention center hotel (breaking ground after the Super Bowl)

I love how subtle Bisnow is.

This would be awesome.  It would be even better if they could do the same thing as the JW and take off the ~1960s façade to restore it to its original 1917 appearance!

I hope so. Time to start searching for those vintage photos!

    was the address the same?

And there are a ton of lurking eyes watching these forums closely. Got contacted about Allen Center renovations and WOMH revelation from people in the projects.

Did they contact you after you revealed semi-insider info on HAIF?

Also, they're publicly traded so hopefully we'll get more info before ground breaking.

  4. Driving inbound on 59 north this morning, it's apparent that the crown will allow it to stick out just above 95% of the other tall buildings downtown, along with its front row seat on the north side to allow it to stick out like a sore thumb. At least from this side of town.

  5. Some other takeaways from document:

    • "Phase 1 is anticipated to open in 2017" (kinda shocking to me)
    • Phase 2 is two buildings, is anticipated to open in 2018.

Also, I hope they only speak of two phases because these are the near term projects. I'm still hoping for more phases later on. I wonder why they don't have to consider those in this study, too.

I'm glad this is a legit project moving in the right direction. I also agree with the neighborhood concerns 100%. I see no reason they can't make a great project without closing off a street. Houston needs MORE connectivity, not less.

Hines owned 609 Main for many years.  It was a parking lot, but look now!  I have read a lot of his books. Very smart man, he will do another highrise.  He took a chance on Pennzoil Place and received awards.  He eats brocolli everyday and he is 90!  Fabu person!

I didn't know Gerald was an author!

Stopped by the site this afternoon and talked to the crew chief. He said that they were excavating the site to 17 feet below ground.

He also said something that was very interesting. He said that once this project is finished there is talk  that the hotel just north of this site

will be demolished and a sixty six story tower will take its place. Nice rumor. Images of the excavation will come when Brijonmang downloads for me.

It's a skinny site, so maybe we'll get a NYC lipstick tower?
