  1. I think so... there is lack of available hotel space in the near vacinity. I would want to see a bit more development along Main first but I still think it would do well.
  2. The Admiral would make a cool boutique style'd hotel.
  3. I went to Boil House over the weekend. Pretty solid crawfish, they were really nice/friendly and even gave us a piece of King Cake to try while we were eating our crawfish. Will definitely be going again. I also went to Mighty Mini Pies on Main Street Friday (I think that is the name) and got two mini pies. They were tasty (kinda sad I didnt' go before now)
  4. Did the officer seriously block the sidewalk to write someone a ticket for blocking the sidewalk?!?
  5. Yeah, 3rd world places are just littered with nice homes with ornate wrought iron fencing. Why I was just in Somalia and...
  6. I went to Piatto and it was tasty and great service. I'll be going back.
  7. Yeah nobody wants to move to the heights... thats why the houses are so expensive, dramatically increasing in price recently, and sell extremely quickly. Living in River Oaks is also to passe for you too right?
  8. I'm sure the next apartment complex will be "The Heights near 45 Heights Midtown, a Heights community in the Heights"
  9. I look forward to having my friends/family stay here when they come visit.
  10. Can they sell as "to go" but have picnic tables setup that people just happen to utilize anyway?
  11. your capped out at 10% for your appraised value. It will increase by 10% every year until it equals your market value. My Appraisal Value is 55k lower than my Market Value.
  12. that is exactly what they are doing. The improvement value of my home is less than the amount the land increased this year. They will not decrease the land value. Their computer algorithm doesn't take into account that one part of a block would be less desirable than another. Interior Woodland Heights lots are obviously worth much more than brookesmith bordering lots, but all of woodland heights is raised the same. This really hurts those of us on the outside edges that are less desirable (still highly desirable but less so than the interior woodland heights) because we also have larger lots. (even if the over 5,000 is only at half value). More people are moving in to the city that much is true, requiring more money... but there has also been a lot of new construction and renovations to account for this increase in people (it wasn't like the city was just sitting vacant) greatly increasing the tax base. There is no reasonable justification for my tax bill to increase 75% in 5 years. I'm fine with the appraisal value going up, but the rates need to come down. Tax Relief is greatly needed/warranted.
  13. When i have to pay and extra $7 a month for a "drainage fee" on a pier and beam home on a 6,350 sq. ft. lot, and city has a large budget surplus... that rubs me the wrong way. Maybe they should absorb the drainage fee costs... That is just one example...
  14. I went from 40 to 54 for land.. and with a 6,350 lot, that sucked. I got hit with an overall 25% increase, with the value now being ~75% higher than what I paid for it in 2009. What is really annoying is where I am, the people on my side of the street are at 54 sq. ft for land, and the other side are 28. Stupid computer modeling, no buyer would give two craps about what side of the street a house is on. (zoned to same schools and etc.)
  15. Whatever happened to that Tiki Bar that was supposed to open up on Main?
  16. no more trees. Kids could play with sticks and get splinters. There shouldn't be handrails on the roof, that isn't what the roof of a train is for. Parents should either tell their kids not to play on the roof of the train... or allow them to take that risk.
  17. It is easy to call a bluff when you have no money on the table.
  18. So because some of the more unique architecturally interesting buildings were few and far between and have since been demo'd, we shouldn't build any houses like them any more? I thought you wanted to preserve architecture???
  19. Someone needs to design a yard sign with a Historic Ordinance monster smashing bungalows with a conformity stick.
  20. That pretty much encompases why I hate the HAHC. Thanks for sharing.
  21. yep, i'm going to make myself ride my bicycle or longboard there... to justify the calories. I had the bourbon vanilla bean shake and it was bonkers amazing.
  22. Is the sign infront of that house/business on Pecore across the street from the church legal? They also frequently have a moving truck parked across the street from them that often blocks a good bit of the lane.
  23. That is awefully close to the snowcone place on Main that cost 1/4 as much... I went to FatCat and it was awesome. Great addition.
  24. Awesome! Looking forward to this one. I went to Key West a few years back and there was a desert bar called "better than sex" which was a very adult "sexy atmosphere" desert bar. Although it sounds kitchy and cliche', there was a wait out the door every night I was there and it was a pretty cool place. (my wife and I went after a night out and managed to get a table somehow). Since then I've thought that would be something that would go over really well in The Heights where people love eating and drinking but not the "party atmosphere as much".
