  1. There's a lot of potential upside in this trade. Jordan Hill is the most physically gifted player that this team has had in a while, the question is whether he can develop and Rick Adelman has a great track record for developing talent. The Knicks just freed up all kinds of cap room to chase LeBron, Wade, and Bosh, but if they don't land them - they will be terrible (again), and the draft picks from this deal will have huge value. My prediction is that two years from now this is going to look like a great deal.
  2. A lot of dirt is getting pushed around this site now. Looks like they may finally be starting work on phase 2. Their website currently lists it for a summer 2011 opening.
  3. Sounds like you're letting personal bias in on this one. It sounds to me like they are trying to create a one stop shopping area. If you need to use a laundromat, you've generally got a lot of time to kill in between. An opportunity to walk around a mall and take care of other errands would probably be pretty welcome. With all the excess retail sq footage out there right now, I wouldn't be suprised at all to see malls competing for businesses that are traditionally based in strip centers.
  4. Does anyone know anything about the two lots parking at the top of the picture? Hoping that these are next in the development of that side of town.
  5. IMO, the success of HP is going to depend on the development of the blocks immediately to the southeast. Right now, you have several blocks of surface parking that separate HP from Toyota Center, Discovery Green, and the surrounding new development. It would make a big difference if that area could be developed with street level retail that would allow visitors to shop as they walked from the Hilton or the Embassy Suites to HP.
  6. Exactly, build the stadium with no additonal public funding and promote in the press how it was accomplished while showing fiscal responsibility. Reality and politics are two totally unrelated concepts.
  7. I wouldn't read too much into a statement like that in a commercial. That's just posturing about being fiscally responsible.
  8. I would prefer to keep downtown developing with taller towers. Although both MP and DT have their critics, I think that we can all agree that they are an encouraging trend for downtown which will hopefully continue when the economy recovers. Leave these shorter buildings in TMC and hope the trend will continue to spread into the other business districts around the city.
  9. I think that they read this thread and decided that they better make further improvements.
  10. Is that surprising? They stood no chance locating on the 3rd floor with no stores around them to generate traffice. I don't see a lot of people going out of their way to go upstairs to buy a cap. I was at HOB last night and the center was busy, even when I left at midnight.
  11. Rock The Bayou was held there last year over Labor Day Weekend. Supposed to occur same weekend this year also.
  12. I suggest that this should be separated into a separate thread called "why do I have nothing better to do than argue about thread names? "
  13. I went in there on Sunday for lunch and I would agree with the comments above. I've heard some people compare Mooyah to In N Out, but I don't really see that. Definitely a better burger than Johnny Rocket's across the street.
  14. This post is to confirm that I am not real and that none of my posts are real. I am a figment of your imagination.
  15. A theme restaurant is not necessarily bad, but it is always overpriced, because you're paying for the "experience" not just the food.
  16. My kids loved it when they were little, but I always felt it was average.
  17. My prediction: Lids will close that location within six months...which will lead to five pages of posts claiming that it's a sign that the entire Pavilions project is a complete disaster.
  18. I don't think that it is worth the time and effort to evaluate this place at this point. We know that there are going to be a series of store/restaurant openings in March/April. We're just not going to be able to begin to evaluate whether this is going to be a success until that point.
  19. I'm crossing my fingers on this one. I'm in SoCal right now and my kids made me drive to In n Out immediately after we left the airport. They want to have it every day that we're here...
  20. Your optimism is overwhelming. I walked through this center on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised after all of the negative commentary that I've been reading on the site. The bottom level looks almost completely leased and foot traffic was reasonably good. Retail in the upper levels should fill in pretty quickly once the restaurants open. I know that everyone is very anxious for the other restaurants/shops to open right away, but it just doesn't make any sense from a retail perspective. If you can't be open for the Xmas season, why would you open in January and lose money for the next couple of months? Expect to see coordinated openings and a significant amount of advertising in the springtime.
