  1. The location is a bear. And I think it's going to be hard for them until the construction across the street is completed. And what exactly is "high-end". I already throw down $100 on cross-trainers. How much more is "high-end"?
  2. What about faux-stret level retail instead? That what my building has. A Starbucks is in the lobby, which connects to the tunnel system.
  3. "Critical mass"? It's the Art Briles affect ;-) A long, long time ago it was supposed to be a Chilis/Bookstore/Cafe strip. But I think that was just one of those "feeler" proposals since that was about three years ago.
  4. That's assuming the lobby is on the ground floor. Allen Center's lobby is technically on the second floor, with (gasp) retail on the first. OK, the retail is a Fantastic Sams, Banc of America, etc. But still.
  5. Do we even have any buildings downtown with "great lobby space"? Many (like Wells Fargo) hardly have any, and what they have is not even worth looking at. Edit: The old Chase bank lobby is lovely.
  6. It's been a couple weeks since I went by, but the Travis side looks too skinny to accomodate anything other than a newspaper stand. Granted there is a store in the buidling next door. Not sure of the name of that building, but they added a new entrance on the Travis side.
  7. The Travis side is pretty ugly, too. Some much for street level retail.
  8. Chase Tower did the same thing recently with a bunch of trees. Looks nice. I watched them build the 1301 McKinney area when I was in 2 Houston Center. But why should the smokers get all the cool spots to hang? They should have to smoke while standing in a puddle of bum tinkle. Smokers were a big problem at 2 Houston Center.
  9. We got this email today: The building ownership and Hines are working with a large group of consultants to redevelop the plaza. The new plaza will include a large water feature, extensive landscaping and outdoor seating; construction should begin in late October and we expect it to be completed by the Spring of 2008. Renderings of the project will be on display in the main lobby later this summer. We will provide you with additional information and project schedule updates as the project progresses.
  10. I work in this building. Can't say I'll really miss it. You actually hardly even notice it, but a lot of people do stop by and snap pictures. They needs some plants and benches in its place.
  11. Call Charles LeBlanc with the Midtown Redevelopment Authority. 713.526.7577 PH
  12. Parking is nuts in that lot. I can barely find a spot to pickup my Ponzo's Deluxe.
  13. I think the perception, as I have said before, is a lack of understanding by Houstonians as to what makes a
  14. DT Hyatt has inside/outside elevators. They are behind glass on Smith St.
  15. I like the Hoff. Not so much on the suites, though. Rip-em-out! As far as that end zone facility, it looks like they took part of the wellness center and attached it to Robertson. How uninspiring.
  16. The Hyatt needs to do something. My out of town coworkers say the rooms are funky. The lobby is still cool.
