  1. I just don't understand. I grew up in Dallas and my grandmother was from Houston. I fell in love with all sports. I am a huge Cowboy fan, but I am also a huge Astro's fan at the same time. My ultimate would be to see the Texans and Cowboys in a Super Bowl or Rangers and Astros in a World Series. I really would not care who wins, just because it looks good for the best state in the nation, TEXAS.
  2. Unfortunately, if the claimant wins they will just draw from the California Association of Realtors Trust. It will probably never affect the realtor.
  3. I totally agree with you about the don't buy new. It seems more logical to buy used for much less and then you hire a interior designer to come make it what you want for half of the money you will save.
  4. Cool Pics. Thanks for posting. I really miss the times that I spent in the Astrodome. I remember being a kid and going to the 86 All Star game, watching Nolan get his 4000th strikeout, and Darrel Strawberry hit the longest homerun I have ever seen all in the same year. What a great place, I will never forget it.
  5. Because of the preditory lending and over inflation of property values, everyone in California will be homeless soon.
  6. Working for myself, I have a tendency to work all the time, but not at all sometimes. I will put in 10 to 12 hours a day, and take breaks throughout and get my HAIF fix. Like right now, my wife is watching Bruno vs. Carrie Ann Dance War, so I am doing research and posting instead of laughing and puking by watching the show with my wife.
  7. Is there a Maggiano's near! That is the best!
  8. In reality, I think the Loft would be the best bet simply because it is perfect for a young professional person. You have very little maintenance, if any. You really don't need way to much room being single. I would find a split level loft if you can and maybe something on the top floor with roof access or something with a patio. It is worth the extra money to be on the top floor because it will always be the most desirable and if it has a roof access, it would act as another room when you need it for entertaining. Loft living is hip and fun, town homes are great transition for when you are ready to take the next step in a relationship or marriage and need the room for in-laws, and before you know it, you are going want to move to the burbs or some place that you have to mow the grass.
  9. There is no real quick fix for what you are trying to accomplish. As it has been stated before the best bet is to nail it down with ring shanked nails. Typical construction of your floors is, 2x8 joist for anything built from 1985 to 1994 then 5/8 plywood then whatever flooring that you have in your home. Either way, nail it in with ring shanked nails or replace with a tongue and groove manufactured wood or solid wood floors. Good Luck.
  10. Spur 5 dead ends into Old Spanish Trail. I live close to it, but never take it. The one time I did take, I noticed that nobody else seems to take it as well.
  11. Well either way, I am sure a compromise would be closer if we focused on making it useful again. I will be surprised if there is ever a sporting event to be held in it again, but maybe the hotel idea would be good. Who knows, with a hotel that close to Reliant Stadium, maybe we can get another bid for a Super Bowl in the future. That would great for the economy as well. I am really interested though in seeing the proposed hotel plans. Does anyone know where I can find those?
  12. Not that I really want to stir the bee nest, but I really think it would be great if they made a hotel like they Gaylord in DFW or the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. I would really like to see the integrity of the exterior be restored, but the interior is really starting to fall apart. Why don't we want to see this happen? Either way, I want to keep my eye out on how to get some seats before the get rid of them. My grandmother had season tickets for years and i would love to try and get those seats.
  13. I just recently started my LLC's last year for my Houston Based business. I have owned S-corps and LLCs and I feel the LLC is the right way to go. One word of advice for you though if you seek legal advice. There are a lot of problems that you might not be thinking about right now that an attorney can bring up before they are a problem. My attorney has been great. If you want his name you can PM me.
  14. As for the pole, for a ceiling fan of that length, I am sure you would have to go the special order route, or would you consider using the other pole and maybe spray painting it? Also, I am not sure about all Home Depots, but the one near me has a 18 ft folding ladder you can rent that might work for you to get up there, but to transport it might be a chore unless you put it on top of a truck or something. Either way, post pictures on her if you decide to do so. Good Luck and let us know what you do.
  15. Could it be that Coleman's real reason for being against gentrification is because he is watching some of his voters moving out of his district and he does not want to lose his position or power? Just a thought.
  16. Okay, now I am on the right page with the style. I have always admired that style of home because it feel so open. I all about open spaces.
  17. Travelguy, I have build several decks in my time, so if you have any questions or if you would like me to stop by and give you some suggestions, let me know. If you are planning on building a deck of that size, I would definitely put piers instead of block. I would dig at least 2 foot deep too. I am sure you are going to hit some roots being that close to the tree, but it should not cause damage to the tree, but if might wear you out. You can always rent a gas powered post hole digger from a local home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowes as well, but just make sure the area is clear of roots. Once one of those roots catch, it can twist the whole thing around. My wife can tell you a funny story about one time I did it and hit me in the jewels. I was talk at a higher pitch for several days after that one. You might consider a backhoe with a post whole attachment as well. One thing that you might want to consider as well is an arbor. You will get so much more use out of it during the dog days of summer, especially if you decide to put a ceiling fan in it. Here are some pictures of decks I have built so you can get some ideas:
  18. I am aware that a historic significance does not really prevent people from tearing down homes, but it does help with federal funding when it come to organization of the civic groups and some improvements for common areas and such. I have even seen some historic groups who are able to get tax breaks and improvement funding for homes being restored. Either way, an collective organization needs to be established. I know there are a lot of people here that would love to see something started and I would hope some of those people will chime in and give their opinions as well.
  19. From what I understand, it is pretty immediate.
  20. When I mean "people" I mean the majority of builders/developers. Sure you are going to have some great people that are going to come up and do something cool, but when it really boils down to it, the only real true consistent developer of good architecture are the city built projects. Example would be Minute Maid Park. I also hope that I can contribute to the architecture of Houston over the next 20 years.
  21. Sounds like a research project in the making. Who is going to be up for the challenge?
  22. I would also find out if the realtor that represents the auction has a minimum they are going to start with or they would accept. Having an auction does not actually mean the house will sell that day. If nobody offers on the home, then the house will continue to stay on the market.
  23. I think when it really comes down to it. People have not focused on architecture in the past 20 years or more. I am really encouraged that green building will help with a renaissance of building designs. I am sure it will cost more to build the "more than just 4 wall type" skyscraper, but I also feel that some of the great cities like Houston are going through a major art renaissance by adding sculptures on corners and such. Eventually that led to low rise buildings being more architectural appealing, and now has led to mid-level condos having more style like the Mosiac, The Edge, and others throughout the area. The big buildings will be the last to be updated. Maybe with the help of the sprinkler systems updates due by 2010 in Houston, we might see some new buildings and/or style developed in the old ones. All in all it will come down to the economy though, and unfortunately with only one day this year closing on the positive, the future does not look good for your dreams of a mini building boom to happen.
  24. Maybe you can find someone that can take over the payments for you. Be careful though, I would not do that with just any joe blow on the street.
  25. It is amazing how much work it is to have the American Dream. Hope everything works out for you.
