  1. No, the map project has not been started yet. I've got a lot of RL things to do. Eventually I'll get around to it.
  2. Specifically, kind of like this, except non-Flash. Or something. http://74.220.215.244/~syracus4/penncaninteractivemaps.htm
  3. So recently I had a cool idea that involved Houston...and I came up with a project called The Galleria Map Project. Basically, my plan is to take the existing The Galleria lease plans (http://www.simon.com/about_simon/leasing/LocalMall.aspx?id=805), blank the existing stores, and fill in the stores I...and others...remember. Unfortunately, this is only in the planning stages and I don't have the right program to handle everything. I mean, it would certainly be a cool project if it were to be done, and...I guess I could post answers to any Q&A.
  4. Wow, thanks! In 2003, there was a toy store that was called Kid N Kaboodle, but that's about it. Texas gift shops are so boring. Name a mall in Texas that DOESN'T have one of these (or a GNC, for that matter).
  5. On the Rink Level of the Galleria, there's a store that's located under the stairs, and I believe it is now a Texas gift shop. However, I recall my cousin telling me about a store that sold cat-related merchandise. I'm guessing this was late 1990s or early 2000s. Does anyone know the name of this?
  6. Let's see....I found the location... http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...mp;t=h&z=17 I thought I saw ambulances, too...
  7. Yes...couldn't tell because it was dark and I was in a car.
  8. ...at Friday, 7PM, more or less. I was first drawn to the large tent near it, but there were flashing lights there, too! What happened?
  9. I went to the one in the Houston Riverwalk. Pretty tasty, actually. The food was a bit overpriced but the environment was kind of impressive. Unfortunately, it's one of those "go once or twice with friends" place and not a place one would eat regularly.
  10. I remember going to the Mall of the Mainland and it said JCPenney had moved to Baybrook! So was JCPenney not there before? Or did they move into the Wards pad?
  11. My fantasy for Sharpstown Mall is based on solely on light rail. I feel it can be revived like Mondawmim Mall in Maryland. It was initially an open-air mall in the 1950s with Sears...enclosed in 1971. Unfortunately, it lost Sears in the early 1970s and went downhill. A Washington DC metro station was installed nearby but the mall declined throughout the 1990s, until in 1999 when the station was remodeled. Now its a bustling center with no connected anchors but a Target and a grocery store nearby Scroll down to Baltimore's Mondawmim Center here: http://mall-hall-of-fame.blogspot.com/2007...01_archive.html That is what I hope can save Sharpstown.
  12. The listing is gone (boo) but...wait, they don't actually have a home that looks like a Home Depot. Any pictures?
  13. ...and that was part of the problem. The other way is to extend a skywalk from Galleria III across Sage.
  14. What I think should be done is convert the old Foley's into a Bloomingdale's, move Saks into a new location, and rebuild the old Saks into a new condo with new retail below.
  15. I read somewhere that the Galleria was to add condos in the original Macy's spot but wasn't able to find a residential partner to build it. Was this true? Is it still possible?
  16. It's still around, but it isn't the same as it used to be. I don't think the Dollar Menu was around circa 2000.
  17. In 2000, I visited the Museum for the first time. It was a cool experience...I remember the Planetarium was showing "Where in the Universe is Carmen Sandiego" and the McDonald's was pretty cool. It was unlike any McD's I had seen. For one thing, the restaurant offered snowcones, but what I'm trying to recall is that it had some science-themed combo meals (like a "Mars" themed meal). Unfortunately, the next time I managed to get back to it was in 2007, and it had been gutted and changed since then (to a fairly non-descript McD's). I'm really trying to remember those meals...as I never had them. Can anyone help? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Help!
  18. I went to Dallas in 2006 and explored the downtown areas via the tunnels and skywalks. While somewhat depressing in the basement areas, it is very viable and convenient. The tunnels and skywalks even takes people to nearby hotels. One hotel was an upscale place...it was set up like a small mall in the concourse, with an ice rink (I'm pretty sure) and a few shops, including a donut shop where we bought apple fritters. I've never been to downtown Houston.
  19. I remember an older one from the 1990s that had the Blue Beast and the Hydra. These were later drawn out of the map. Does anyone have a copy of an older one?
  20. Not too long ago, I conceived a plan that would put a theme park across from Greenspoint Mall, thus reviving Greenspoint as the "tourist mall". I don't think it would work. But Sharpstown? I think that one's finished.
  21. The Hydra was dismantled between 2002 and 2004: see here, see here. A more recent Google photo shows that the Hydra is now gone and the pool backfilled. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Spring,+TX&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=42.85226,74.970703&ie=UTF8&ll=30.07048,-95.431672&spn=0.001435,0.002288&t=h&z=19). The Blue Beast must have been torn down around the same time...when Six Flags took over.
  22. I'm pretty sure that the Blue Beast was not functional in 1999 when I saw it. It looked narrow and somewhat unstable. The stats didn't give the diameter of the Blue Beast...bummer.
