  1. Speaking of Michael Jackson, check out the back cover of his Invincible CD cover:
  2. Thank you, editor. I knew I would get the correct answer from this website. I'll have to check the other boards for their artwork on the back.
  3. All kidding aside, can someone tell me what is the meaning of this billboard that is located on McKinney in downtown Houston? Thanks.
  4. Well I guess I meant the billboards and mostly word of mouth. The usual "come live in The Woodlands".
  5. Yep. I know a few co-workers that live in TW but work downtown. There is no way I would want that commute. I guess you have to take the good with the bad but there are good and decent neighborhoods that are closer in if you ask me with above average schools. I also think it's interesting that they advertise heavily to get you to move to TW which is great but what if a few years down the road it starts to get overcrowded, which I believe it already is. And you know what happens after overcrowding? Crime. Then where will they go if that happens? (although I'm not saying it will happen).
  6. I agree but I'm sure the folks in "The" Woodlands think otherwise.
  7. So did the people who wanted out of Spring in Northgate Forest send their kids to private schools? I go to the new Spring Clinic right across on 1960 and noticed Spring school buses exiting from there. I take it some of them couldn't afford the private schools. All their money goes on their homes, I guess.
  8. That is not between Spring and The Woodlands. How dare you? Just kidding. But I am surprised no one has mentioned that . Thanks for the link.
  9. One weekend, exit 45 and greens and drive around. I've never noticed many trees at the Greenspoint Mall. Not much to see. It's your typical large mall with a lot of vacant department stores. I keep hearing they are supposed to reconstruct the mall to revitalize it but that hasn't happened yet.
  10. There are aholes in every profession. Good for you for notifying the authorities (although nothing may come of it).
  11. I remember back when Greenspoint Mall was a very busy mall. At christmas time they were so congested that they had to have police directing traffic. And every Independence Day there would be a huge fireworks show. Those days are gone now. I still go there every once in a blue moon and it's not as bad as some people claim as far as crime etc. Since it's mostly black and hispanic patrons, some people have a problem with that. I read somewhere that they were supposed to remodel/revitalize the mall and was wondering when the construction would start. I've always said that all those low income apartments in that area is what brought that mall down. Hopefully after the remodeling it will pick back up because it would be such a waste.
  12. Final nail in the coffin? I don't think so. This could have happened anywhere and I am sure most people that shop there will realize that.

Oh, okay. Sorry. I thought it was your post. And I'm with you, I would have had the same response too.
  14. Well I guess I should give my opinion since I started this thread. I am mixed on this. To me, I feel the occupants of a gated community have a false sense of security within those gates. I don't think they are 100% secure. If a criminal element wants to get in, they'll get in. They will find a way. I also wonder about being secure from criminal elements on the outside, what about your neighbors? They could be white collar criminals. I also see it as an upscale segregated colony. I remember, I saw a gated community years ago in Louisiana and it was the first time I saw one. I didn't know what to think except maybe these were scared white folks trying to keep black folks away from them. I was young and naive. Of course, about a year ago some young punks broke into my home while I wasn't there and was looking for some valuables to steal. They didn't find any. I somewhat think differently about gated communities. If I could afford it, I wouldn't mind purchasing a home in one.

Is your mom white, black or hispanic? What did your mom do after that?
  16. Pros/cons of your gated community? For those who live in gated communities... 1) What kind of gated community do you live in? 2) What are the pros/cons? 3) Do you really feel secure? 4) Would you live in an open (non-gated) community? I'd also like to hear from those who would like to live in a gated community and those who do not live in a gated community. Thanks.<script language=JavaScript>

    Ghetto

I am still here. I was just wanting to get everyone's opinion on it since it is used a lot here. When I first starting reading the threads I was offended by it (and still is) but I gather it is okay to use it here because nine times out of ten the same posters that use it freely here, wouldn't dare speak it in mixed company. I feel the same as you regarding it being an ugly word. A lot of people don't realize that "ghetto" started with jewish neighborhoods. So was the "there goes the neighborhood" phrase.
  18. No. I haven't noticed it. Will check it out. Have you tried the China Bear off I-45 between Richey and 1960?

Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering if anyone else thought it was referred to an area becoming "black" and not just "slum" or "trashy".
  20. I don't think Greenspoint is as bad as it used to be and they were exaggering then too. I remember a while back a friend of mine asked if I still lived near Greenspoint, I told her that I bought a house not too far from Greenspoint. She looked at me like I was crazy. Apparently she bought into that "Gunspoint" meme. I used to live there in one of the apartments in the early 80's when it was nice (at least to me). One thing I like about it was the skyline view (especially at night) from my apartment. The apartment where I lived was at the perfect spot. I felt I lived in New York! I drove that way a while back, I noticed that apartment complex isn't there anymore. I think there is a park there now. Most of those apartments used to be "adult only" apartments but there's no such thing now. Another poster said it was well kept and clean looking. I agree. I don't go through there (Greens to the Tollroad) as often but I think they really straightened out the place. I also hear the mall will get some makeup which is good because it would be a shame to let a nice and spacious mall like that go downhill. I hate that it was nickednamed "Gunspoint" but hopefully that description will be done with completely.
