  1. Okay, Little Dipper (new bar from Poison Girl people) is now open in the former Cava Bistro space (the second one, next door to the former Cielo Mexican Bistro/Pete's Dancing Marlin space). Dean's Credit Clothing has re-opened and has a cocktail list and a good beer list.

In the last year, we've got:

    Clutch City Squire

    OKRA

    Pastry War

    Goro & Gun

    Little Dipper

    Batanga

    Fusion Taco

    Barnaby's

    Brewery Incubator

    and Dean's closed and reopened.

  2. I would honestly rather move forward with Keenum even if there ends up being some cases where inexperience at NFL level causes him to make a mistake, because Schaub is just too predictable now. There will be ups and downs with a young guy, but Schaub seems more like certain doom.

  3. Yeah, Case played decent, but not well enough in my opinion to make it an easy decision for Kubiak. What do y'all think Kubiak will decide?

Easy decision. He demonstrated that he can throw deep and accurate, and that he's capable of scrambling when he needs to. That makes him a lot less predictable. Time to move on from Schaub.

  4. Schaub's longest throw of the season is 32 yards, the worst of any starting QB in the NFL. Schaub has no mobility and is never a threat to run it himself. Even older guys like Drew Brees can run for a first down when they can't find a target. The teams the Texans play against know that Schaub will either hand it off or make a pass that's 30 yards or less. It allows them to camp out on his routes and pick off some interceptions.

  5. Uhhh? I know they're independent businesses.

But i was assuming that the Wendy's closed because it wasn't keeping up with the current vision for that area. That whole area is changing and it seems that since Wendy's and McDonald's  are the same type of businesses, i was wondering why both of them couldn't remain.

If Wendy's was renting from a landlord then maybe they were pushed out by rising rents. If McDonald's franchise owner owns their property then they're not paying rent and can stay as long as they want provided they pay their taxes, regardless of what's appropriate for the area. There's plenty of factors we don't know.

  6. Really that short.

And the 1 bed units are uncomfortably cramped.

Yeah I looked at them. The 1 bed plus den corner units seemed like a good size and sweet patios, but $$$ especially after the renovation.

Edit: Looks like they renovated out the dens to put in a dining room and they go for $1675+ now.

  7. I just choose not to go out for Mexican food when its a night out.  I can get good Mexican anywhere...I don't need to goto "upscale" Mexican food.  Its like "upscale" BBQ...its not better, it just costs more.

You said you doubt you'll ever go because of the policy.

Well Ive never been to it and b/c of the policy I doubt I ever will

The policy has no effect on you because it only prohibits children during a time you wouldn't take them anyway.

  8. I've never even tried to eat out with my kids after 6pm.  My kids wake up at 5:30am, and goto sleep at 8.  Starting a dinner out after 6 with my kids would be a disaster and I would never do that to myself, or other diners.

Well then, I don't see why you wouldn't go to the restaurant as the policy only applies after 7 PM.

  9. Well Ive never been to it and b/c of the policy I doubt I ever will....its not that the policy offends me, b/c it does not...its just that if I want a nice dinner out, I am sure as heck am not going out for mexican food....When I dine out without the kids I much prefer to goto places that serve food that I can't get at most other places I go regularly with kids...also while Im not a chef, or even a good cook, I am pretty capable of making good mexican food - so mexican food is pretty much my absolute last choice when out and about.

How late do you take 7 year olds to dinner?

  10. I hope that retail makes it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.  Maybe a single convenience store could make it there.   Obviously if more residential (or even offices) pop-up over there, then maybe additional retail could survive.

Combination convenience store and deli has been working in Houston House ground level for years now.

  11. Zombie, Mai Tai, Scorpion, those are the types of drinks you'd find at a tiki bar. I don't think Under The Volcano even stocks orgeat. I see it as a Mexican bar. There's a lot of little Mexican cultural type of stuff in the design.

I like Under The Volcano, for the most part. Drinks are decent, though it can get a little packed, and credit card minimums really burn my biscuits.
