Very possible they had a permit for the valet spots. Blocking the entire sidewalk?? Oh hell no. I don't tolerate that.

Casa De Caballo was excellent. They're going to reopen in Bellaire.
-
ERA Pizza planned to do the same thing, so we'll see about that.

I would imagine that Marriott would offer to do a little minor work on the Battlestein's building for free, just to make the front look somewhat presentable.

Yeah, tunnels is the easiest. Lots of activity going on because of the branch in the basement.

best of luck to the folks at Gage, but that location sucks. the greyhound and mcdonalds scare folks away. perhaps when skyhouse and alliance are full, there will be a local crowd that can support a bar at that location.
Proof is doing fine. Mongoose vs. Cobra and Leon's are doing fine. It's far enough away that the station isn't an issue.

There's a new bar/lounge that's opened up in the old barcadia spot across from the superblock. I never heard anything about it or saw remodeling crews, but they had their soft opening tonight. 60's themed with the place decked out in retro furniture and decorations. It looks like a classy change to what Midtown is used to.
What's it called?

Yes, by a super reliable source.
Interesting. They're claiming gas leak.

Remington Bar on Westheimer was sort of the opposite of the White Horse. It had a rep as a sort of yuppie pick-up bar.
Yeah, this article introduced me to the term fern bar. I'm going to bring it back into fashion.

On Google Books I found an old copy of the actual article scanned in. On there they include some pics. Pretty cool.

I put the year in the title of the topic!

They locked in some great fuel rates a while back which allowed them to have lower rates than the other airlines. I think those have expired and they're now trying to figure out how to continue competing.

Is this a joint city-county project? I thought they were talking about one.

When you sell your house you are required to disclose if anyone died in the residence. You are also required to disclose if a ghost resides in the house.
I doubt if most people admit to a death in the house.
I'm pretty sure I would admit to the ghost part.
Ghosts don't exist, so there is no need to disclose them. Defects in the property do have to be disclosed.

no bar will ever be successful at 2016 Main because of the bus station. All the hustlers, crack heads, and thugs chase off good clientele. That Mickey D's there is a disaster area- it's the dirtiest restaurant i have ever walked away from
That's what happened to Warhols.
Sammy's was a success. Until Sammy left, anyway.

I came across this article in the Chronicle Morgue Files with a piece on the 20 Oldest Restaurants in Houston, published in 1986.
How many of these are still in existence?
Apologies for the crappy chopped up photos -- they don't let you use anything except your phone in the Texas Room.
The ones that still exist in some sort of form are:

Here's my modest proposal. All blocks are by default free parking, but if 50% or more of the homeowners on a block agree, allow residents to opt for one of the following options, on a shall-issue basis (i.e. unlike current ordinance, no requirement that x% of cars during y% of the day be non-residents):
1 - Resident-only parking. Residents must pay for the signage.
2 - Metered parking. Residents pay for the meter station, but keep, say, 70% of the revenue, distributed pro-rata based on frontage.
I live pretty close to 19th St. There are a couple of times a year when my street fills up with parked cars, but most of the time, I'm happy to have free parking on my block for myself and my guests. If I lived near White Oak, and it was a daily occurrence, I might think differently.
No. They are public streets paid for by all taxpayers. Leave all blocks as free parking. The few that have been switched to resident only parking (like behind Anvil) should be switched back.

I wish Tycer would just go away.

Is there any chance that they will open up operation to the parts before Hughes Street before the 31 months?
Edit: Nevermind. I see it WILL be opened to Altic by this fall.
-
Okay, so I wonder when the UH line will open.
-
Looks like they still need some programming to do on the street lights lol. A green light with a train crossing isn't good.
This is a clearance test. There's people in the intersection managing the traffic. No trains are actually operating on that line yet.

Leon's Lounge At 1006 McGowen S.
in Midtown
Posted
It closed in 2010 for over a year, so I'd say it relinquished any claim to longest running bar at that point.
