  1. They locked in some great fuel rates a while back which allowed them to have lower rates than the other airlines. I think those have expired and they're now trying to figure out how to continue competing.

  2. 12 bars in Houston

    Marfreless, 2006 Peden.

Nick’s Fish Market , First City Tower, 1001 Fannin.

The Last Concert , 1403 Nance

    Park Lane , 2010 W. Alabama

5 still exist with the same name, 3 still exist with a different name, 1 changed business type (to Hebert's Meat Store) and 3 are gone.

  3. When you sell your house you are required to disclose if anyone died in the residence. You are also required to disclose if a ghost resides in the house.

I doubt if most people admit to a death in the house.

I'm pretty sure I would admit to the ghost part.

Ghosts don't exist, so there is no need to disclose them. Defects in the property do have to be disclosed.

  4. I came across this article in the Chronicle Morgue Files with a piece on the 20 Oldest Restaurants in Houston, published in 1986.

How many of these are still in existence?

Apologies for the crappy chopped up photos -- they don't let you use anything except your phone in the Texas Room.

The ones that still exist in some sort of form are:

    Prince's
    Brenner's
    Avalon
    Christie's Seafood
    Cleburne Cafeteria
    Molina's

  5.

Here's my modest proposal. All blocks are by default free parking, but if 50% or more of the homeowners on a block agree, allow residents to opt for one of the following options, on a shall-issue basis (i.e. unlike current ordinance, no requirement that x% of cars during y% of the day be non-residents):

1 - Resident-only parking. Residents must pay for the signage.

2 - Metered parking. Residents pay for the meter station, but keep, say, 70% of the revenue, distributed pro-rata based on frontage.

I live pretty close to 19th St. There are a couple of times a year when my street fills up with parked cars, but most of the time, I'm happy to have free parking on my block for myself and my guests.  If I lived near White Oak, and it was a daily occurrence, I might think differently.

No. They are public streets paid for by all taxpayers. Leave all blocks as free parking. The few that have been switched to resident only parking (like behind Anvil) should be switched back.

  7. Road diets! Interesting stuff. Commonwealth is going from 3 lanes to 2. Dunlavy's going from 4 lanes to 2. Sawyer's going from 4 lanes to 2 lanes plus a center turn lane. Shepherd's being expanded 10 feet. Brazos is getting redone like Bagby already has been, with curb extensions, street parking cut in, and fewer lanes.

  8. There's a new rugby sports bar Downtown in the old Angelo's or Mantra space (next door to Flying Saucer). They weren't quite ready to open but decided to open early to show the World Cup matches. They have a few appetizers that they've been offering for free. Eventually they'll have a South African menu. This is the second location, the first being in Van Nuys, CA.

It's a pretty fun place to watch a game.

  9. GoT is an extremely violent story in the first place, and this is premium cable where such things get played.

I do have a few issues with how they have presented the material, though. Jaime is somewhat of a "good guy" and yet they depicted him as a rapist in the crypt scene with Cersei. This is a change from the actual source material: that interaction in the books was consensual. Why the need to change this to a rape? I didn't like that at all.

  10. How do they handle cross streets? From what I see, Sawyer Street and Houston Avenue cross the "closed" area. Will they have cops there directing traffic or just put up barricades and expect drivers to work their way around?

Cops directing traffic. On the Westheimer route it was rarely an issue, though. Very few motorists showed up to cross.

  11. Is there any chance that they will open up operation to the parts before Hughes Street before the 31 months?

Edit: Nevermind. I see it WILL be opened to Altic by this fall.
