  1. Did anyone ever eat at the Cafe at Marshall Field's in the Galleria? The best dessert ever was their Silver Satin Wedding Cake! I wonder if you can still get that anywhere?
  2. I'm not sure. I just know I had a really nice time! I think I was so excited at the prospect of being baby-free that night that I may have lost my faculties
  3. I'm aware it was a school night, but it was still rather busy. I was there about three Friday nights ago, again at Tommy Bahama's, but I was with a large group and Phoebe was sick, so I really didn't pay much attention to my surroundings. I guess it wasn't that bad if I didn't notice.
  4. Matt and I went to Tommy Bahama's at Market Street last night. We had a marvelous time and had a wonderful dinner. I really enjoyed it and never even noticed anything out-of-sorts. There were teenagers there, walking around, or at Starbucks, but they were all well-behaved. It was nice--it actually felt like we were "out of town" in another part of the country, even. I am surprised at the closed-mindedness of the Inner Loop/Galleria attitudes, I guess because I can see the good things about this place and I used to live right by the Galleria (oh, yes, I used to say "I will NEVER move to the suburbs!").
  5. Macy's is no longer the high-end retailer of years past. They are as cookie-cutter as Foley's now. I grieve for retail as a whole, there seems to be no individuality, personality, or any other -ality. It's frustrating.
  6. Yes, the bastards are demolishing it today. I am going to go take some photos. It is so sad.
  7. Thanks gnu. I was sitting there scratching my head going "MMP?" LOL!! Duh! I'm a little slow.
  8. Where did the big locomotive go that used to sit in front of the lake by the zoo?
  9. I'm 99% sure that's Rocket's Grill (Roger Clemens' new place). As for the movie theater, I don't really know how in the heck they are getting all of that in there. Should be interesting!!
  10. I loved Marq*E when it first opened and thought it had real potential, but the little ____ ghetto teenagers that ran amok bullied any decent people out. Nobody wants to walk around on a date or with their family when you have 16-year olds screaming expletives and chasing each other everywhere. It got really out of hand at one point, if I recall there was a whole expose on the kids there in the Press or similar paper. It's no wonder everything is closing! I hope Magic can do something with it.
  11. The Coffee Guy just went into Memorial City Mall, FYI... Down by the ice rink...which, coincidentally, a few months ago I told hubby they needed a coffee shop down at that end. Hurray!
  12. Oh, wow, you're throwing all that around again... *yawn* I'm neither prejudiced nor genocidal, but I think it is kind of amusing that you feel it is your mission to paint me as this evil Republican bigot, like it's your personal agenda. That's so cute! Ah, but seriously, if you only knew me! Bottom line is--you don't--and I'd rather you not. Little-if anything--that you say comes across as intelligent or even interesting...so let's not try, okay? Don't want to strain any cerebral stem cells you may have left in that head of yours. Please--just ignore my rantings and I'll ignore your...er...spin. Thanks a bunch!
  13. eww! Why do you insist on chasing me around? *rolleyes* Are you really this dense? You can't possibly be. I know you're a raging liberal and all, but come on. It was a joke....one that you missed. Whatta shocker. Has absolutely nothing to do with gay people, but I am lost--how am I obsessed with gays? ROTFL! Yeah, um........yer a bit delusional.
  14. so, are we to expect that the team, collectively, is a dynamo? Or is there just one player that happens to be the dynamo? Sounds DORKY! How perfect. Well, dang it, I'm offended. The good news is, if we can get about 4 more people riled up, and someone like Shelley Sekula-Gibbs behind us, we could really reduce this name to shreds and get something even MORE gay, if possible.
  15. Hi, just a question...does your new job pay you a subsidy? Most TMC employers offer at least something to employees. MD Anderson is the worst about this (my husband works for them), but they still give $30 a month to assist with parking expenses or bus/train fare. The only park-n-rides that go directly to the medical center are METRO's 292, 297, & 298. None of those go to the Kuykendahl lot, unfortunately. Texas' largest employer and you really only have three direct routes there. It's a damned shame. The closest direct park-n-ride is actually The Woodlands Express. It goes from Rayford/Sawdust Rd (just n. of FM 2920) to TMC. Other than that, you can take any of the park-n-rides from the Spring Lot or Kuyukendahl Lot downtown with a transfer to the train. It will take you a little over an hour to get to work that way. Good luck and congratulations on your new job!
  16. Two words: PIZZA ROMA!!!!!! (off Dairy Ashford & Whittington)
  17. Just shows where Garcia's loyalties lie. I think it's a sad state of affairs. You would think a Mexican-American demographic would appreciate what 1836 means. I'm quite sure Texas would be a different place today had it not been for the events that happened that year, and Ms. Garcia would no doubt be rolling tortillas somewhere in Chihuahua.
  18. I just received an email from Midway (I wrote them yesterday) and it looks like construction is not scheduled to start until 2007!
  19. Yes, but you can always sue an inspector if they miss something huge.
  20. Just as RedScare and TJones mentioned, you can easily get the info yourself. These so-called "in-the-know" hot list web companies that promise you all sorts of secret foreclosure lists are full of it. They get their info the same way everyone else does...so if you don't want to deal with going to the various courthouses, they are a good way to go, but just know what you're dealing with. The best thing to have when checking out a foreclosure is a good INSPECTOR.
  21. I miss El Fenix in the Galleria, the San Jacinto Inn, and Confederate House. I remember Victoria Station, that was on Richmond, right? Near Post Oak? Anyone remember the Velvet Turtle?
  22. God. I hate what these builders are doing to our neighborhood. How in the hell do you stop them? Part of me wants to just smack that owner in the face! Freaking take some responsibility for the heritage in your area!
  23. I have to admit, I went to Raisin' Cane's with Matt for dinner one night and I was kind of unimpressed. I think Whataburger has the best chicken tenders on the planet!!
