We live in the Heights (walking distance to Travis) and although we don't have kids yet, we're more than content with raising a kid up through the Elementary level in the area. By the time any children of ours makes it to Middle and High Schools I highly suspect there will be a monumental shift from the levels we currently see.

Amazing. That was a HUGE home.

I've had the pleasure of being to Morgans house and having them cook dinner for us, and yes thats residential. There's been a lot of activity on the McCains site, so they're busy prepping the storefront.

Any one been yet? They are open, but haven't done a thing to advertise themselves through the social networks so I don't know much about them at this point....

Back to the ground floor retail issue, I heard the original plan was to lease out the ground floor as retail but then Hess leased out the whole building and they will now sublet the ground floor to retail of their choosing, when they choose to. Doubt there will be retail upon opening this summer, but hopefully sooner rather than later. My hopes for a nice pub/restaurant on that corner are not entirely dashed yet.

All on Banco Santander for me. STD. Do drips count in the final tally or just base share price?

Looks like the weekend douche crowd at Sawyer Park will be increasing by another 222 in the near future. Probably not a bad place for an apt complex, but not sure what the vacancy rates are at the one next door. I hope hope hope he does ground floor retail with this.

Growing up in Canada, I need trees in my life, so for me the Heights is a nice balance of greenery and neartown city life. That said, there's a part of me that loves what the Disco G area of DT has become. Lots of cool places to hangout there, nice park, restaurants, evening distractions, etc. Soon to be added to the mix: grocery options which I think are loooong overdue and will really be a good welcome mat for others who want to live down there. I think investing in that area is a smart move, if you can find that nice place that offers all of this within a block or two of your front door. The area on the other side of 59 has potential, especially with the new soccer stadium, but if you can afford the Disco G area I think that's the way to go.

That solitary spinning fan is creepy in an Angel Heart kinda way.

Maybe it will draw the Washington Ave. crowd further north and they'll eventually migrate even further up 45.
As a member of the non-partisan Heights AntiDouche committee I will do my best to ensure no men with pink shirts are allowed north of I-10.

"My latest project is Distillery – Twenty 5 Twenty, near the Washington corridor. It is a sports-themed restaurant and bar. The concept is simple: build a comfortable place where one can get a good meal, especially thin crust pizzas, watch their favorite sports games and listen to good music. We sit on an acre of land surrounded by parks and lush green space with ample parking, outdoor patios and a second floor deck with views of our downtown skyline. With all the renovations, we’ve really transformed this location into an establishment that will make a significant contribution to this historic neighborhood."

Dirt bar will be a Panera bread or bank or something.
I vote check cashing store.

forgive, if this was mentioned earlier in the thread:
does anyone know if/what retail will be on the ground level?
No ground floor retail is what I've been told. I always thought that would be a good place for a patio pub, but not gonna happen.

There aren't any steps at any point. Ramps on both sides of the bayou.

I've done the pedal party many times. Yes its legal. There isn't any type of motor on the device and the driver of course simply steers. There is room for a keg on board, but the driver does not serve the beer. Its fun, but you really do burn calories going from one bar to the other.

This isn't new, only reported as such. The DFW office doesn't have many people anyways. Would have been nice for the sake of reputation, but financially Houston still is the winner from XOM.

I think there are two projects simultaneously being worked on here. The bike path and the Quitman repairs.

Y'know, I heard trains too come to think of it. No doubt in my mind it was Washington Ave. At my previous place close to White Oak the winter months always made for a louder train signal...cold air and lack of tree foliage.

www.beckett.com is the online guide to what many consider the best price guide for sports cards. However, a card is only worth what someone is willing to pay, so in that regard I often see things on eBay like 'Beckett priced at $35, buy now for only $7!'. Around 1990 was when the baseball card glut happened so generally speaking those aren't worth the cardboard their printed on. Ken Griffey Jr was rookied in 1989, but I think generally if you recognize the players name on your card then you might have something worth selling. The other 'commons' maybe not so much.

On my drive up Houston Ave last night, I noticed that oft-worked-on-oft-forgotten building on the NE corner of White Oak and Houston Ave has been busy with workers and as of last night now has a tarp saying 'coming soon, Distillery Twenty 5 Twenty Bar and Grill' or something to that effect.
Anyone got any further info on it?
I hope the drinks come with inner tubes because I've seen that intersection under water many times during heavy rains. I wonder if the proposed detention ponds will keep this area dry? I hope its not a douchebar.

I think Vancouver should be there.

Yes, its the Heritage West Trail that will connect UH-Downtown to the finished MKT trail and also connect to the Stude Park trails on the north side of White Oak.
