  1. Wow lots of robberies along the metro rail line. That's pretty scary.

Here's a good website with monthly crime data in google maps. I find it interesting to look at what times the crimes occurred. A quick glance at midtown shows that a significant number of the robberies happened during daylight. I didn't realize it was that bad.

  2. No fair, the Dallas images are much better quality, and you can look up and down (you can't do that in the Houston street view). And the coverage seems better. And it doesn't seem like they took all of the images on a sunday at 7:00 am in the winter with no leaves on the trees. I think they need to start over with the Houston street view, it really makes a lot of Houston look bad. :(

Can I be the first to say that the entire street is devoid of pedestrians?
I see 3 people sitting on benches.
  3. What I'm proposing basically, is a means whereby people who place importance upon something pay for it and that people that don't consider it important don't pay. Any other system is embracing a form of theft, IMO.

So in that case, people without cars shouldn't have to pay for the roads, and people without kids shouldn't have to pay for public schools. And people who are not in favor of war wouldn't have to pay into the military budget. I don't see how anything like that could ever work. If taxes were voluntary, we'd most likely have to world's worst school system, military, and transportation system, not to mention lots of other problems.

  4. i agree. Without something to vitalize that part of town, more well loved buildings could perhaps, fall into disrepair, so this project will probably save more beloved historic spots.

I agree. I love the look of the Texaco building (much more than the New West Building and Montagu). I'm really hope something good will happen with it soon. So much potential there, and it's depressing to see it empty.

  5. Whoa, I was just about to go downtown. I think I'll wait till this guy is outta there. Looks like he's on Crawford now near the HP construction site.. Whoa he just hit somebody! Yeah, I'm going to stay home for a bit. There are sparks coming out of his car too.

  6. False convictions are a big problem with or without the death penalty

Yes, but you can't resurrect dead inmates who had been falsely convicted and then executed. That is one of the reason that the death penalty was outlawed in Canada in the 1970s (there was a specific case where an inmate was scheduled to be executed, and proven innocent many years later.). I think that if you're going to have capital punishment, it should only be used in cases of extreme certainty, not "much more commonly"... although I am sure you're going to argue that there are plenty of cases of absolute certainty where the death penalty was not used, or something along those lines.

There are also people out there concerned about hunting and sport shooting, but that's a tertiary issue on my list.

The hunting issue is null as far as I am concerned. Even in gun-hating places like Canada, you're allowed to have a gun for sporting or hunting purposes (as long as it's properly licensed). I know people will try to argue that requiring a license in order to carry a hunting rifle would be unconstitutional though. I used to go skeet shooting with a teacher from my high school, and it wasn't a big deal.
