I just wished they had explained on how they got the information.
Me to. Are they basing it on commute times? Traffic flow? Peak traffic? Public transportation? HOV lanes? Every freeway is different and just about every commute is different in Houston.

None of that excuses illegal armed incursions into other countries, or extrajudicial torture of a suspect without even a trial.
I agree although if I was one of those children's parents I'm quite sure I would strongly disagree.

Sugar Hill, very short run (I think it was open maybe 3 years?), nice course, but I think they charged too much for the area. Bissonnet and Kirkwood. it was also built on a landfill.
I forgot about that one. It was interesting because of the hills. Surprised it closed. I mean what else are you going to do with a former landfill?

We've had two par 3 courses close down on the west side of town in the last 10 years. The first to go was Texas Par 3 at the corner of Highway 6 and Alief-Clodine. My two oldest took golf lessons there and we played the whole course a couple of times. The other was Hackberry Golf Club, on Dairy Ashford just north of Beechnut. Never played there, but I believe it was a lighted course. It was bought by the city and is now a park. There were also a number of driving ranges that were waiting for better land use. Most have shut down but one is still going off Richmond between West Houston Medical Center and Phoenicia.
I remeber both of those. The Texas Par 3 was great when it was just a 9 hole course but they later crammed in another 9 holes and ruined it.
Hackberry was great. I really miss that course. It was always immaculate. They talked about putting lights on it but I don't think they ever did unless it was right before they closed. Don't know why it ever closed. Always seemed pretty busy.
Are there any par 3 nine hole courses left? They were fun for sharpening your game and when you had limited time to play.

What about pics from the old Sharpstown CC?? Anybody want to comment?
Just played there a week ago. Still one of the best public courses in Houston for the money. When my family moved to Houston in 50's it was an exclusive private country club. There was a neighbor that would take my dad there on occasion during the 60's. Not sure exactly when the City bought it and turned it into a public course.
The golf course at Southwest Freeway and Highway 6 in Sugar Land/First Colony was in fact called First Colony Golf Course,I still have a couple of their tee markers. The day before they closed they had a tournament for the senior mens group with some unique rules given that they were shutting down the next day.Normally golf carts would be required to remain on the carts within 50 yards of the greens, but at that tournament the rule was changed to "no carts closer then 20 feet from the holes".The old guys were parking their carts on the on the outer edge of the greens and the fringe.
Area golfers continued to play the course for free for a month or so after it closed to work on their drives and iron play, putting was out of the question.
There's now a CVS drug store where the 11th green used to be.
I think I only played there once before it closed. It was a nice course. The one I miss the most though is Old Orchard.

Nobody's commented on Ed Emmett's plan to turn the Astrodome into a year-round festival home yet.

Does this mean that we could actually have events in July and August?
An air-conditioned, rain and mosquito proof Cynthia Woods?

Is this that property in the picture in this old thread? There appears to be a house at the bottom of the picture just south of Brays Bayou?
That's it. The picture shows my house just west of Post Oak and my good friends house just east of Cliffwood. To get to his house meant following Braes Bayou or cutting through the Meyer property.

Perhaps we will see her on an upcoming episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter.

I drove by it yesterday before returning home and should have taken some pictures myself. It's completely gutted and not sure how they will remove the rest. Implosion perhaps?

You can bet that for $25,000 someone will turn her in in Nigeria or wherever. Then it will come down to extradition. The US may have to slip a little extra money to a government official.

At least through the majority of the year winds are out of the southeast so we are blowing our pollution towards Dallas.

Liquor laws are totally bizarre. Not only here, but in other states as well.
Yeah but the TLBC is like NAZI Germany. They are totally out of control and have been for as long as I can remember.

I used to sneak around the property when I was a kid in the 60's. It wasn't far from where I lived. I stayed away from the house because it was said to be haunted. ( What abandoned property wasn't haunted when you were young?) I just liked the area because it was so woodsy, unlike anything else in the area.

The Houston MSA (No. 7), with its oil refineries, petrochemical plants and blossoming biomedical industry, had the second-highest toxic release amount on our list.

She has always been an embarrassment yet they just keep re-electing her.

I'd do for the full motorcycle license. Once you start riding you may progress to something bigger. Heck by this time next year you could be riding with the Hells Angels or Banditos. Wish I could offer some insight into the test but I got mine around 1970 and I'm sure a lot has changed since then. The good thing is it's a one time thing that you can keep for life.

I agree with RedScare. Since the fire was determined to be accidental, arson investigators probably never thought she would flee and had to make absolute certain she had left the kids alone before they could charge her with anything. Yes she could have gotten 20 years but in all probability she would have gotten off with a very light sentence and probation. Perhaps what's more disturbing is the fact she was charged with arson as a juvenile and probably never should have been granted a license to operate a day care. If you want to blame someone, blame Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

There was a great article in yesterday's Chronicle about the new restaurant. (I can't find it on their terrible web site or I would post a link). It really sounds exciting. I hope they don't over do it and charge exorbitant prices. After all, it's Tex Mex and that's what makes Tex Mex so damn good is it's simplicity and low cost. I would think they would since they have to compete with other Tex Mex places nearby like El Tiempo and Chuy's.

Welcome to our incompetent/corrupt justice system.

Obviously we need to build a new stadium.

Go to Cosco. It's cheaper then Specs. You don't have to be a member to enter their liquor store and I doubt if anyone would question if you accompanied your brother.

I worked at downtown Foleys during high school and then Sharpstown a few years later off and on. Once they fired me because they said my hair was to long. They then hired me back a year later even though never got it cut. I enjoyed the unemployment salary I received from Foleys that year. It allowed me to do a lot of traveling.
