Good find! Never thunk to search for Wood Trace.
-
Probably Pinehurst, but More people know where Tomball is.

What is the story behind Woodtrace? One would think a developer would snap up the plots and finish it off.
Correction: One would think a builder would snap up the plots and finish it off. The neighborhood is already developed.
-
While on my weekend ride I found Woodtrace hiding in the woods. Seems like a nice place on a lake, great location, and all the road & utility development is in place. Does not appear to be in a flood plain or have other problems.

Hunt Global Resources Inc., headquartered in The Woodlands, has announced plans to develop a frac-sand mining facility driven by green technology on a 350-acre tract in Montgomery County. The site, located in the 14000 block of Old Conroe Road, is estimated to hold 21 million tons of marketable frac-sand, said George Sharp, CEO of Hunt Global Resources Inc.
Operations are scheduled to commence around the third quarter of 2012
The mining site is very close to Carriage Hills, and Old Conroe Road has expensive subdivisions that the sand trucks will pass by. I'm waiting for the NIMBY force to protest the location.

I walk the Research Forest trail daily. There has been surveying performed over the last six months, however no clearing to date.

Can someone nail this down a little closer for me, so I can update the map?
Go a mile to the east and Lone Star College / University Center is clearly marked.

From Don Norrell of The Woodlands Township:
Miles McKinney attended a regular Board meeting of the Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District last evening. The purpose of attending this meeting was to gather additional information regarding a proposed 2-lane extension of Research Forest Drive from the existing intersection of Research Forest and Bear Branch Drive, in the Village of Alden Bridge, to Egypt Lane on the northwest side of the Township.
Planning and funding for extension of Research Forest Drive is under the direction of the Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District. Funding will be accomplished thru sales tax collections levied on sales within the district. The district encompasses land containing commercial activity around and near the intersection of FM 2978 and Egypt Lane outside of The Woodlands Township. This Improvement District is funded through sales tax collections and these funds are proposed to be used to fund debt service requirements for bonds that will be issued for the roadway project. The roadway construction plan must be approved by Montgomery County before construction can begin.
Right-of-way necessary for the project was acquired by Montgomery County in 2010. County approval to move forward on construction of the roadway is projected by early November, with construction beginning in January 2012. The roadway extension is projected to be complete by mid-2012.

What is being built in front of the Grace Crossing Church on the southwest corner of I-45 and FM-1488?
Big construction site but no signage.

Thanks Marmer, already reserved the book at the library.
Thanks Toad, am visiting the Home Show at the Reliant Center and will swing through on my way back. The artist wife should like the Menil collection.

Don’t know exactly where to post this but here seems the most fitting (i.e. least incorrect).
We live in East Magnolia and have not taken the effort to discover Houston. Recently we toured Bayou Bend and took a short drive past the nearby mansions in River Oaks. Very interesting trip.
We plan to make similar day trips into the big city and tour other architecture. Can anyone recommend interesting sites that offer tours, or at least are easily viewable from the sidewalk? The style is less important than the significance.

Sales tax funds Research Forest Drive expansion
Article reports the Research Forest expansion is estimated to be completed by 1st quarter 2012. Considering they have yet to break ground this date is questionable.
Also interesting that they reported:
“A total of 21 registered voters within WMPID’s boundaries voted on the tax increase last year. It passed by one vote. Once the tax increase was approved in the election, WMPID’s six elected board of directors voted unanimously to pass the measure.”
Even half of the members of the improvement district thought it was a bad idea.

Here is a link to the Grand Parkway segment G and the possible segment H's where they cross 59
Section G http://www.grandpky.com/segments/g/
Section H http://www.grandpky.com/segments/h/
You were likely thinking Patton Village, not Panorama Village

Just took a Thanksgiving walk down the east end of future Research Forest and noticed the area was freshly surveyed. Construction must still be moving forward.

Something is not passing the sniff test here. Is a new sales tax being ramrodded behind closed doors?

Updated: 10.23.10 In the first two days of early voting, several residents believe they were wrongly turned away from casting a ballot on a proposed 2-cent sales tax that could be levied on businesses inside the Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District.
Westwood resident Richard Straka said when he went to the polls, he was told he was not eligible.
“I was going to vote against it,” he said.
He said he was told he was ineligible to vote because he did not own a business in the improvement district and neither he nor his spouse was on the district’s board of directors.

I wouldn't completely rule out an HQ move, though it is unlikely. A new shiny corporate campus, with an entire master-planned community (and VERY nice one at that) built right behind it? That may entice a move from Irving, where there are hardly any Exxon employees compared to Houston.
Yes but the Irving employees are mostly top management, and the rank & file here would be very uncomfortable with them looking over their shoulders. Lots of political implications.
-
ExxonMobil should make a formal announcement early next year on their plans for the campus. At this time they have not finalized exactly what branches will close and move to the Spring location. Likely they will not move the present Dallas and Houston offices

For the far-NW Alden Bridge residents it gives them better access to the world than going east to Greenbridge or south to Woodlands Parkway. Other than that its just a road extension.
The Kuykendahl-FM1488 intersection will be just west of 242-FM1488 intersection by about ¼ mile. I certainly hope they synchronize the two sets of traffic lights.
Welcome to east Magnolia. It offers more space yet easy access to the amenities of The Woodlands without paying their inflated home prices. Let me know if you need any details on the area.
-
Construction crews are clearing the future Kuykendahl Road south from where it intersects with FM1488.
Good news for The Woodlands northerners.
-
By the way...for at least couple of years there has been a developed section of TW called Spindle Tree and the school district is indeed Magnolia.
It is located east of FM2978 near Hardin Store road.

This has not got off the ground, right?
A few months ago I took a ride down Matthews Lane and was curious about the extensive gate and brick fencing on the north side. Click for a Google Street View
I talked to a local resident about the property and he reported it was previously owned by an eccentric millionaire who passed before he could build his mansion. The property was then purchased by The Woodlands and they are currently leasing it as pasture land until they have a need to develop it.

Has anyone heard of and/or know the location of the Lake Trails Condominiums in or around Montgomery? It does not showup on a Google search. Were they sold or renamed?

From the Chron article:
If you view the aerial photo you can make out interconnected clearings that are consistent with the layout of the golf course.
Additionally…zoom in to the section where 249 turns west to 149, and Google has mapped a section of the planned Aggie Toll Expressway.
