I thought it was a great find when I came across it on youtube. I was born in 54, so our home movies of me as a toddler looked a lot like these, cars and clothes, and hairstyles.

I wondered the same thing, the video says South Main, but I can't remember it. Found a postcard online of it.

There's several interesting shots of 50s Houston, cars, clothes, parades, movie box office, and a quick shot of Yatch restaurant on South Main. All the cute babes would be in their 70s now. http://www.youtube.c...Ho8RPVxdfo&NR=1

I decided to start a new topic post a youtube video on this topic. -
I didn't even notice Kitirik was hot at the time, it was watching the kids grabbing all the pennies they could hold that entranced me.

Just out of curiosity, I searched Youtube for time pilot.
-
Flickr is Yahoo's photo storage site with search feature. Found this nice 1945 photo.

Time pilot: is that one you start out in a WWI plane, progress to WWII, Jets, etc. I must of blown $50 in a Greenspoint area convenience store on that one.

Found this postcard of the candle shop for sale.

Not exactly an Elvis memory, but I was married 21 years ago today on Elvis' birthday. I liked Elvis, but I was really after the 1888 (01/08/88) anniversary date so I could remember it easily over the years. I know when there's an Elvis marathons on cable, that either my anniversary is coming up or it's the month of August. My wife is not an Elvis fan, she doesn't like pretty boys (explains why she married me), but I picked what I call the "Butt Eye Song" for our dance at our reception. "Wise men say only fools rush in BUT EYE cant help falling in love with you" It's the only song I'll dance with my wife at receptions and social functions now.

South Main Drive-In Theater At 11510 South Main St.

Fortunately, I think you just missed the soft porn days. I know they showed James Bond's "Diamonds are Forever" in late 71/early 72. Shortly after that it went downhill. I remember getting to see the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns in a double feature there in the late 60s. I had been too young to catch when they first came out.- 63 replies

Yes, in the early days of VHS tapes they used to sell them for $15.00 each. I remember I wanted three and they wouldn't take my 50 dollar bill. With tax it was something like $47.50, but still wouldn't take the bill.

Vampires, Dinosaurs And Spaceships In Houston

The thing that really impressed me at the time, was the zoo was free--no admission. I just couldn't figure out how to get there without my mom and dad. Bummer. -
The Farb Companies
devonhart replied to WillowBend56's topic in Architects, Developers, Builders, and Designs
From the little googling I did, Harold Farb Apartments still exist, but the sign is on the way out. Mr. Farb died at age 83, don't know if his apartments have much longer. http://swamplot.com/last-of-the-harold-far...rap/2008-04-01/- 14 replies

They also had a bargain matinee, $1.00 before 6:00 pm I think. I remember catching shows after school, around 3:30 and being home in time for dinner.

If the property taxes aren't being paid, it's abandoned and in theory would eventually be up for auction.

Macy also taught me to drive at his and another coach's driving school. He made me nervous as hell, just as a coach, as a driving instructor, he terrified me.

That's right, I had never heard the word "custodian" until Montgomery. We'd say "janitor" when it was just us kids, but "custodian" if a teacher was in earshot. I remember liking 3rd grade teacher Mrs Coleman, but hating my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Clingman, she's the only teacher I remember actively disliking during my school career.

devonhart replied to musicman's topic in Architects, Developers, Builders, and Designs
Think "Houston" I picture billboards, strip malls, chain restaurants, and stripclubs, but that's just me. -
Oops, I didn't see "children's" they also had the F&W.
