  1. Thanks all. The owners did an incredible job restoring that house. They are a realtor and a home builder. How's that for cool? They did take some damage during the hurricane (photos were shot about a week before then), but are currently repairing those problems. The best part is, they love it.

  2. My mom lived next door to this house for 15 years. She built at 7627 in the early 90s after I went to college.

This home was probably only owned by one family. The husband died about 7 years ago or so. I hope this isn't an estate sale.

7627 was designed by Frank Welch, right?

  3. Real bullets for the guard costs! These are well built, I've done media in several in this area. The trees seem to moderate the traffic noise in this enclave surprisingly well too.

5787 Indian Circle is Howard Barnstone's Peterkin house. There's also a Bob Griffin house back there.

  4. Alex Deuster address is 3518 Glen Arbor off the 3500 block of North Braeswood

    J. A. Newsome, Jr. address is 16 Lacewood Lane off the 11100 block of Memorial Drive

The Deuster house is still there, but the Newsome house was demolished in 2005 or 2006, as was everything Vale did on Lacewood, that we know of.

  5. There's another Bowles & Bowles house at 11910 Knippwood in Memorial. It was built in 1955, and has similar detailing, but not quite as interesting as the Weiler house. It does have a similar appearence, but the chimney is up front. There is dark wood, possibly redwood or mahagony and built-in storage everywhere. pm me if you want pics. There is a demo permit on the front door.

I know I posted this house a while back as a 'whodunit' type of thread, but since I can't find it, I'll repost entirely.

This house is located on a flag lot a few houses down from Wylie Vale's Raymond Schindler House at 17 West Lane Place and Bolton & Barnstone's Farfel house at 18 West Lane Place. A flag lot is fairly unique to the Tall Timbers section of River Oaks, in which owners of these large lots have an option to sell a large piece of their property (usually the front half) off to someone else. Other neighborhoods (like Stillforest) have lots like this, as well.

I stumbled on this house one afternoon while looking for the aforementioned Schindler house. You can barely see it from the street (you kind of have to look over a new palace's shoulder to see it). It appears to be excellently maintained, too.

I contacted the usual authorities and they were stumped, so I wrote a letter to the owner (I won't use his name to maintain his privacy), and he returned my letter this week. He's originally from Dallas, and had Dallas-based architect Scott Lyons design his house in 1970. Lyons was a long-time employee of O'neil Ford (he's mentioned multiple times in the book O'neil Ford: Architect. He also designed many houses in the Preston Hollow and Turtle Creek neighborhoods of Dallas. Here are a few of his projects that have been for sale in the past few years:

Notice the similiar materials and exquisite detailing.

    Here's another example by O'neil Ford: http://www.dougnewby.com/dmh/texasmodern/p...455_northbrook/

So there's another one identified, which has turned out to be a previously unknown treasure. Let's hope there's a few more out there.
