  1. From The Washington Independent The New Boom Towns Latest Energy Crisis Is A Boon For Many Cities Across The U.S. http://www.washingtonindependent.com/view/the-new-boom-towns
  2. Houston, New York Has A Problem http://www.nysun.com/opinion/houston-new-y...-problem/81989/
  3. I don't live in the Heights, but it is one of my favorite parts of the city. You are literally just a few minutes from downtown, yet at times it feels like you are in a small town. As with any large city, there will be areas that are better from others. You can cross the street and go from hood to high dollar. I agree with the above posters as well. Take a few months and get to know the city. You might find that you prefer something other than the Heights.
  4. I don't know if there is a particular paint you need or not. They have never re-painted and it still looks good. If you go and knock on the newer homes/buildings/apartments with the faux stucco, it sounds a little hollow.
  5. My parents have a stucco home and have never had any problems. They had the stucco applied about 15 years ago. They actually had a crew from Mexico come to Houston and do the stucco job. My parents did not want your basic stucco, they were looking for something more authentic. The only real upkeep is power washing once a year.
  6. This is Mr. Price. Really. I can't stop laughing. I think this is his Playgirl spread. http://www.dallasobserver.com/2001-03-15/news/buzz/print
  7. John Wiley Price is such an idiot. The comment was not even racist, yet he wants to make it racist. He should apologize for being an idiot.
  8. Wortham looks wonderful? It is a red big red box. I agree with you on this one. His works really are impressive and make a real statement. I have always though of European architecture as more cutting edge. Again, that can be good or bad.
  9. Has anyone heard rumors of MillerCoors moving to North Texas?
  10. I think LA has some great architecture, perhaps some of the best in the nation. Eames, Neutra, Gehry, etc. They all have made huge and diverse marks upon the city. Some of my favorites happen to be the old spanish/hacienda structures.
  11. "Moving to Dallas puts AT&T's corporate headquarters near many of its key technology suppliers and other telecom companies that have major operations in Dallas . . . " http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=4800...articleid=25882
  12. Ran across this in while reading the New York Times. Could you imagine driving down Allen Parkway or Memorial Drive and seeing a waterfall spilling into Buffalo Bayou? NYT article: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/...r/index.html?hp Project Website: http://nycwaterfalls.org/
  13. I am just trying to make a point that Houston really does not offer anything. Paper, thats about it. Just a pilot program in a few designated zip codes would be a start.
  14. Why does Houston not have a comprehensive program regarding recycling? I lived in Dallas and fully utilizied their program. http://www.dallascityhall.com/sanitation/faqs_recycling.html
  15. I did not know Cuba even had missles. They are such a poor country. Why would they buy them? I guess all of the revenue from cigars pays nicely. Kidding obviously.
  16. I tend to use zillow.com for a more accurate reflection. Nice area. I have a few friends that grew up on Saddlewood. Was always nice because we could just cross over Memorial and go to the Racquet Club.
  17. That is the rumor. Supposed to be like the one in midtowne. Not sure on size, etc.
  18. You would think Ritz Carlton would update their site to reflect the Houston location. http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Locations/Upcoming.htm
  19. Agree. When I-10 is complete, we should see a drop. Galleria area on the other hand is always a mess. The only time I head that way is early on Saturday mornings.
  20. Depends on your interests. I would recommend heading over to West Village in Uptown. Great people watching. As stated by someone else, the JFK museum and Dealey Plaza are worth a visit. Go to www.jfk.org for more information on the Sixth Floor Museum. The Crow Collection of Asian Art is worth a visit. For photography, check out Afterimage Gallery. http://www.afterimagegallery.com/index.htm
  21. I could be wrong, but I thought it was supposed to flash. I have seen it do so before, but only on overcast days.
  22. The AMF Bunker Hill lanes are closed for renovations. AMF states "The facility opens in the fall of 2008 as Houston's new bowling and entertainment location - 300 Houston". http://www.amf.com/bunkerhilllanes/centerHomepage.htm The 300 http://www.3hundred.com/
  23. INRIX released their traffic scorecard this morning. According to their figures, Houston came in at number 7. Nice to know that the best commuting hours are Friday, 9-10 am.
