  1. I feel like I need to shower even when I drive by it.
  2. I totally agree with you on this. Attached is a nice little piece by CBS. www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/09/26/60minutes/main575343.shtml - 95k -
  3. I am loving the Rockets right now. I was a little weary with Yao out, but the Rockets are holding it together and looking better than ever. Bring on New Orleans and win 18!
  4. The logo for Four Points has been up for a few weeks. At one point in time, I remember reading about a possible demo. However, that changed last year. After Katrina, I know it was at capacity for an oil comany (I think oil).
  5. I think it would be a wonderful idea for this neighborhood. Memorial Bend is such a unique and ecclectic mix of mid century homes. I live in Bunker Hill and drive through Memorial Bend from time to time. I am always so saddened to see McMansions replacing homes with real character.
  6. It has been a few months since I was in the center, but they did have leasing space across the street. I did Google and found the site, however it is down.
  7. From what I know, the retirement facility is still planned. You can visit the sales center across the street. It is next to Buffalo Grille. I am sure the homeowners in Farnham Park are really going to love new neighbors peering down on them.
  8. I agree that no screaming kids is a plus. The only thing that is annoying to me are the hours. I recently moved to Houston from Dallas and was bummed that the Houston location is closed during the day. I would see movies at the Mockingbird Station location during the days and crowds were decent.
  9. This was a friend of mines parents house. They built it and moved in around 85 or 86. I think the home has some major structural issues that need to be addressed, not 100% sure though.
  10. Does anyone know what is going to be built on the northwest corner of Bunker Hill and I-10? I have heard it is going to be an HEB, not a Central Market.
  11. Renovation? It sounds and looks as if they are basically tearing it down and putting something up that carries on the general asthetic integrity. I just don't like the fact you have a such a wonderful and appealing existing center being "renovated". I know the bottom line is the almighty dollar, but can't we save our heritage?
  12. This is not good news. I hate to see such a great shopping center picked apart, piece by piece. What can be done to stop them?
  13. Feel free to mass email the below persons. I sent an email earlier today to everyone on the list I built. I also included a very brief statement that can be found after the emails. mayor@cityofhouston.net atlarge1@cityofhouston.net atlarge2@cityofhouston.net atlarge4@cityofhouston.net atlarge5@cityofhouston.net districta@cityofhouston.net districtd@cityofhouston.net districtg@cityofhouston.net districtc@cityofhouston.net districte@cityofhouston.net districtf@cityofhouston.net jessica.willey@abc.com andy.cerota@abc.com gene.apodaca@abc.com dominique@click2houston.com parcher@click2houston.com jerome@click2houston.com nancy.sarnoff@chron.com loren.steffy@chron.com ken.hoffman@chron.com rda@rice.edu info@ghpa.org ir@weingarten.com pbender@weingarten.com gcrump@weingarten.com aferguson@weingarten.com jpearson@weingarten.com Let us not forget our past or the former civic leaders that built Houston to the city it is today. By slowly destroying such wonderful buildings and structures, we are wiping away our history, our heritage, our way of life.
  14. I like the term "exotic financing". I was reading the Chronicle business section this morning and noticed that most foreclosures are between 75k and 125k (or around) loan amounts. So many borrowers with no money and an insane amount of collections with never one bill paid on time. Sure, give them a home.
  15. I say Thrash. She is scouting NYC for a new pad. Rumour has it. ". . .Texan Becca Cason Thrash is continuing her New York publicity blitz by making more and more appearances in New York. . ."
  16. When ZaZa first opened in Dallas, I thought it was a little over the top. However, as time has progressed, it has grown on me. It is a vibrant, youthful crowd that adds and extra "umph" factor to Uptown.
  17. Credit does not discriminate. You would think that borrowers that can afford such lavish homes would have great credit and reserves. However, I see all too many times borrowers wanting $1 million plus homes that have no money and horrible credit. They want 100%, 6% seller concessions, interest only loans.
  18. With the sub prime and 2nd lien market in chaos, the market is poised for a very tough year. In the past 2 months, 41 lenders have either filed for bankruptcy or closed their doors. The most recent lender is Loan City which closed yesterday. Large scale projects like 2727 are going to find it tough to find prospective buyers to purchase units. Even borrowers with decent credit (660+) are finding money hard to find. The easy money days of lending are over.
  19. I think I will say what many people believe. The Astrodome is an iconic structure that served its purpose and served it well. That being said, it is time for it to be razed. I can't imagine sinking more public funds into a hotel concept for the dome. Houston is not a big enough tourist city nor a convention paradise. As much as I love the Astrodome, I am afraid that my emotions keep me from wanting it torn down. My common sense tells me that it is time for the Astrodome to go.
  20. Houlihans. The one I remember was where Town and Country Village is located (it affronted the pre Sam Houston Tollroad). Aberbcrombie and Fitch - prior to the "AF" of today, when the really sold travel gear and upscale equipment. I remember the location off of Post Oak.
  21. I remember going to Busch Gardens. I seriously think I was in a stroller at the time. It was a 1 10 and 610 East, maybe?? Over towards Galena Park.
  22. Below is the email I sent Sunday, with email addresses. This is a repost. A copy of my email: Brook, I was reading the Houston Chronicle online edition regarding endangered buildings in Houston. I was born and raised in Houston and spent countless hours shopping and dinning in the River Oaks shopping center. Whenever I go home, I am always driving by or stopping in the center for one thing or another. I am alarmed to hear rumors that Weingarten might demolish part of, or the entire center itself. The time has come to realize that Houston has many wonderful, significant buildings that deserve to be protected. They deserve to be shared by this generation and the generations that follow them. Leave something that will contribute to the mental growth of the city, something that will foster pride in the citizens of Houston. Whenever an old, beautiful structure is demolished, we loose a little piece of our city, a piece of who we are and what we represent. We can either represent pride in ourselves, in Houston, and the way we look at our city, or we can continue the trend and demolish yet another piece of our city. The shopping center is a wonderful piece of architecture to the city of Houston. Not only that, it remains a vibrant, yet calming distraction to the new, yet garish, shopping centers that seem to overwhelm the senses.
