Darn tapatalk didn't submit my message...
I didn't mean to project the status of the building, only that it's a W hotel since Urbanizer thought it was not.
Also, I'm surprised people don't like it. The west side needs work but the east side and overall shape is pretty cool to me.
Thanks, that makes sense.

Found out it is a W Hotel.

This could still be just a rendering for a proposal that went nowhere. Do you have any info that confirms this project?

This isn't a problem of budget, rather a problem of cash flow. This project is critical to the future of their operations, they will likely start sooner than one they announced. In the meantime look on the bright side, this does allow time for redesign!!!
I can imagine when the RE team goes in front of the capex committee to request additional funds for the redesign: "I know we are billions of dollars over budget on other projects, but we really need more money on this one, the haifers don't like the design!"

I dont necessarily like it, but it will fit well whithin its context. It does look better than the original drawings though.

Looks like a retirement home, not an office building

The buildings are OK; still, it's one of the best developments outside the loop, IMO. There are better looking buildings, but this will create a nice campus and view from the freeway.

Fernz - What's the rumor's source...without being to specific, if you can't be?
All I can say is that it's an executive based in the woodlands, with strong connections to local businesses. She did say it's the rumor on the street, no confirmed sources.

Camp Strake...
That's the one

Just heard a rumor that they're exploring canceling the tower, and instead building a campus just North of The Woodlands, in a large tract of land that recently changed hands. Supposedly, Chevron is still evaluating both options.

Hey, everybody's entitled to their own opinion. Many people actually like those buildings, after all, they sold out pretty quickly.I like 'em both, but I have been known to be tacky sometimes.

You're not speaking of the building just north of this project, are you?
I like that building.
Yes...actually, both to the North and South. They're Randall Davis' at its worse, in my opinion.

Can't look any worse than its next-door neighboors, right? Right?
-
Does this project really have a residential component as mentioned in the title?

For whatever reason, I like it without a building there. If this were a park, it would be pretty cool.
Or maybe they shoudl just turn it into a surface parking lot.

BBVA Compass Plaza includes 3 lots - two lots with Post Oak frontage, and one lot between these two and the midrise apartments to the West. The BBVA Compass tower (south lot) was phase 1; phase 2 (north lot) was originally planned to be a hotel that would be built at the same time as the office tower- and phase 3 (west lot) was never defined, it would be whatever the market called for. Since phase 2 apparently includes hotel, and since phase 1 is still about 30% vacant, my guess is that phase 3 is still an undetermined future development. The only option I see for upcoming development is for a higher-end hotel (maybe Ritz Carlton) that would not directly compete with a lesser quality hotel in the mixed use phase 2.... Or phase 2 is only apartments, then phase 3 can be any hotel.

Looks to me like something that belongs in the Memorial City complex. I can imagine it with blue lights at the top.

It must be for an overhead protection over the new sidewalk, very common for high rise construction.
-
Ooh the good old days when it was just the Citgo sign. Man I really miss those days
Exactly! The view was ruined anyway when all those signs were added.

Did he say if the new buildings will be as beautiful as the ones they did across the freeway?
