  1. Honestly, this thing was gonna suck regardless. There's a huge 3 tower development in downtown LA (Oceanwide) that stalled due to bankruptcy. I believe Oceanwide also had a development in SF too but not sure if it is finished and too lazy to google. Crap happens. Hopefully somebody like Hanover looks at this as a possibility and we get a Hanover Museum District. They could hide that garage and build it out much nicer than was planned.
  2. Chicago (1924) New Orleans (1975) Nashville (1999) across the river from downtown) Cincinnati (2000) Detroit (2002) Seattle (2002) Indianapolis (2008) Minneapolis (2016) Atlanta (2017) And while not downtown, the Las Vegas strip kinda counts as a better location for luring events (2020)
  3. I'd MUCH rather have a surface parking lot than an exposed towering parking garage that kills street life. A surface parking lot has future potential. This is going to age like hot milk.
  4. I googled last night to see if I could find local support up in DC. Fletcher (D) and Crenshaw (R) were working together to push Houston as a biotech hub. Not much else from anyone from our delegation and absolutely nothing from Ted Cruz. I guess he was busy podcasting.
  5. Astros are 3-16 in last 19 at Minute Maid. Their season will be ending soon! Just kidding but get it together, Stros.
  6. The red on the Haven at Elgin in the background is unmistakable. Great pics!
  7. You've never seen Greek Row in T-Town. Good God, they take that stuff way more seriously. Excited for more trees at UH. It looks so much better than it did back in my day but there's work left to be done!
  8. Amazing that this group can do a garage and the Menil hotel is going to go with two surface lots.
  9. That penthouse is really cool but practically speaking, you're gonna need a lot of drapes and thousands a month to keep the place under 80 degrees in the summer months.
  10. Sure wish this would have gotten out of the ground before Crane decided to tear down another historic home.
  11. I no longer live in Houston but what is TXDOT doing?!?!?! Madness.
  12. What's on fire in picture three? Black smoke behind Minute Maid...
  13. It doesn't need anything. But some of the newer stadiums are larger. Some have bells and whistles we don't have like field cabanas/on field suites. Some have huge SRO areas packed with restaurants and bar options. Some have better settings near their city centers. Some that are "remote" like ours have built entertainment districts nearby. It's OK to admit that NRG lacks some things and some stadiums are just more of a wow factor AND to also say NRG is a perfectly good stadium. Shades of gray.
  14. NRG is a great stadium. It doesn't need replacing. But I love what the Chargers/Rams did with the area around Sofi. Think of if as a Discovery Green surrounding NRG rather than just massive parking lots. Of course Sofi offers almost double the amount of luxury seats compared to NRG (13,000 to 7,700O) and 65 more suites as well as things like field cabanas. It's insanely over the top.
  15. Well, the crazy palaces in Los Angeles and the burbs of DFW have a lot more suites and can expand to 100,000 for super large events. So, they could give a Super Bowl or NCAA Championship tens of thousands more seats. * I am 100% against public money for stadiums
  16. Is the lot to the west of this project where Camden might build a phase II? Would do wonders if that gap got filled in. Dream would be for Fetitta to build a Post Oak like hotel/apartment/garage where that awful Tundra garage stands.
  17. The backside gives a nod to some of my favorite 1960s towers but the lack of symmetry from the park view bothers me. I don't hate it but maybe it'll grow on me.
  18. This is solid news for the city. The average American conference school brought maybe 200-300 fans to TDECU. I expect 3-5,000 from the Big 12. Should help fill hotels and restaurants on football weekends.
  19. Terrible. Losing housing for a flyover ramp. One day, Texas will grow up.
  20. Uh, Paxton has threatened to sue Texas Children's Hospital and is going after patients and doctors. It will have a devastating effect if the tide doesn't turn quickly.
  21. Not sure how it worked this year but in years past, two team hotels were downtown and two were in the Galleria area. If you got stuck at the Westin Oaks as a team hotel, I could see how it would suck. You'd need bus transfers for everything for your cheer/band/dance teams as well as alumni events. I'm hoping all four were downtown this year as it seems as if Hyatt, Hilton Americas, Marriott Marquis, and one other could do the trick. But it sure would be nice to get that W built and the Astros hotel and in the future all 4 team hotels could be near Discovery Green.
