  1. The views from the condos are going to become a whole lot more ugly soon thanks to TXDOT.
  2. @Highrise Tower It had to be referring to the City of South Houston as there was a station in South Houston, and the line did not run near South Main.
  3. I know it's well too late but I am still mad at the upcoming 45 project and how much it will waste aswell.
  4. Many articles have shown the high amounts of fecal and other bacteria at Texas beaches. People also say that the poo comes form runoff from the many rivers that empty into the Texas Gulf. So the question I am asking is what can we do about the poop filled runoff? We can't just put filters across all the rivers the empty into the gulf!
  5. Also have we given up on stopping the 45 expansion thing / NHHIP? We still have a few years to possibly do something before it breaks ground.
  6. Off topic, but does the city have any plans for Little White Oak Bayou?
  7. I did not know some of those railroad tracks were that old!
  8. I am still sad concerning @JLWM8609's point a while back about the lost potential for a future commuter rail line.
  9. Does anyone know the future of the Golf Course? I wonder if they will sell anytime soon as the land either is or will be valuable.
  10. @yak23flora I rea somewhere that it was standard gauge but I can not find it again.
  11. I used the map (second image) to locate the Galveston car barn and station, but relied on Landmark Hunter historic quadrangles for most of the route, as well as the line's own magazine for the list of stops. (linked in the original post) The map above that you posted did not have enough detail for my use, especially in the Houston inset. Partially, I already found it yesterday and will use it as a list of stations. (I am in the beginning stages of a Google map for the 4 DFW area interurbans) A map like the 2nd one @Highrise Tower shared would be useful, but what I really want are the old quadrangles of the area. Unfortunately I can not get them now as Bridgehunter / Landmarkhunter went down a few weeks after I finished the Galveston map and has not gone up since. By the way, should upcoming the North Texas interurbans Google map go in its own post?
  12. If you are a rail nut, do you know where I can find a google map of the Northern Texas Traction Company, Texas Interurban Railway, and Texas Electric Railway? If not then I will probably make my own.
  13. TRAX light rail in Salt Lake City shares track with a freight rail line (Salt Lake City Southern). The old causeway bridge also used to carry tracks for a few other railroads, including an interurban.
  14. The section of the line from Edgebrook to Virginia Point is now the clear path with power lines. I wonder how the electric company got the land before it was all built over.
  15. Elevated above the many wide arterial roads throughout the metro area. Why not, it has worked in many other cities? I am pretty sure these kinds of people are not the majority, they are just Very vocal about their views. Well waiting indefinitely to build heavy rail is not going to improve the transit situation in Greater Houston. And if Metro wants a comprehensive light rail system first, why are they not building it now? Preferable federal (and state in the future if we can stop electing fools to Austin.) Maybe it could be built on Center Street?
  16. The city (and greater region) has a lot of work to do on this front. Despite what others may say, I think the greater Houston area (6 million people!) needs heavy rail. The Washington Ave corridor seems perfect for light rail! I am still mad that it never happened. Maybe it could have been built on center street.
  17. mattyt36 is a troll. Just ignore him and stop trying to answer his ridiculous questions.
  18. The Galveston Houston Electric Railway was an electric railway line opened in 1911 that ran from downtown Houston to downtown Galveston. It operated between 1911 and 1936. A few weeks ago I decided to make a map of it out of interest and curiosity from hearing about the Interurban on this site and other Houston discussions. Here is the complete map of the line, with more details and information than the other 2 or three maps others have made. Link to the map. Here are the sources I used (and other information about the line you might want to see) : Historic Quadrangles (1 2), Timetables (1) and general information (1 2) from their own magazine (1 2 3) (an interesting read of it's own), Bridge Hunter (Check the causeway bridge more more good photos) (1), Wikipedia (1), Houston Streetcar History Pages (1 2), The GS tram site (1), and some other pictures from Google that I don't remember.
  19. At least Google seems to finally be upgrading Houston streetview. Also when can we expect to start getting more of this infrastructure outside of the loop?
  20. Why is this done with all of our major transit projects? Would this not just drive up the price?
