  1. The site is just being cleared an prepared. This facility doesn't take long to build. If they want it open for the summer of 2006, they'll probably start construction late this summer or in the fall sometime.
  2. I've been to one Virgin Megastore in New Orleans in the French Quarter. It was pretty cool. They had three floors of music of anything you can think of. Before Amazon and other places on the internet, I used to go there for CDs I couldn't get anywhere else. That was just my experience at that particular store. As for the Pavilons, I just hope it turns out better than Bayou Place. I also hope the project completes itself with the office and residences without stopping at the retail.
  3. Chances are the variance is to do with changing to mixed-use complex. Set backs may very well be the other issue. Most urban structures are closer to the street, yet city planning rules prevent this unless the current structure is already close to the street. Most if not all mix-use and dense condo development in midtown will require some variances. A variance is not always a bad thing. You can also voice your opinion at the Planning commision meetings on Thursday.
  4. I think so, I was seeing it from the Shepherd Bridge across Buffalo Bayou. Orion is working on its foundation though. Trucks are regularly going in an out of their.
  5. Oh, I though Bayou Bend Reached the part where they didn't need the crane anymore. I've seen the use of the crane for the support and parking structure because site is not that accessible to trucks.
  6. If you are on Shepherd over Buffalo Bayou, look to the west and you'll see it. Also, if you are on TC Jester, or Durham traveling south just north of I-10 over the railroad tracks you'll see them. The builds will be set deep in some trees, so seeing the crane is not easy from the ground. The west loop doesn't get high enough to see over the trees. Midtowncoog probably can see the Orion crane from his office in Uptown too. He may have to move to another side of the building though.
  7. This past Sunday the fountains were operational. Remember, the fountains are there to impress visitors and people who go out at night in the city. The daily traffic of office workers have alread seen this fountain many times. Having it worked on during the day is not a big deal.
  8. I don't know if this is too much to ask; but once this building starts appearing above you horizon, it would cool to get some photos.
  9. Ok, thanks. I see the Orion one a lot. I guess two cranes are better than one.
  10. If you call Marbel Slab a restaurant, then yes. I think that they may have pulled it because the strip center right next to the Theater has tons of restraurants with diverse food choices. I've often gone with friends to eat next to the Theater then go to the movies.
  11. It could very well be 5k, but the markers say 1, 2, 3. Maybe they know that 5k and long distance runners would know that 3 miles is close to 5k and they can use that for running. I dn't always use Memorial Park because when I can go it is when everyone else is there and it gets a little crowded. I've started using White Oak Bayou from 11th street heading north and then back. That trail goes on forever past I-610.
  12. ?? I know the area but it doesn't really apply to the proposed structure at Riverway. Gary, are you talking about the crane on the East side of memorial park along the bayou. That would be the crane for the Orion Towers. I haven't passed through Riverway in while to see if a crane is there are where the Hanover location is.
  13. That church was just profiled in my Civil Engineering magazine. Wonderful project. The Riverway area is quite a good example of "urban" design. Office, retail, restaurants, and condos.
  14. ^^^ The main street fountian is only two or three feet deep at the most. Gators and other wildlife would probably be most found in the tunnel system or parking garages.
  15. Its forested overbank for Buffalo Bayou. The location is completely unused at the current moment.
  16. What day was it. The fountains are offline a lot times on Thursdays for maintenance. It gets them ready for Friday and Saturday.
  17. The cranes are up!!! The tall assembly crane is up ready to start building orion vertically.
  18. Foundation work is already on going. The publich won't be able to see anything until the building gets above the trees or if you fly over the site. The location is fairly well isolated.
  19. When they home get arrested they have the option of either going to city jail which isn't that nice or going to a homeless shelter. The streets are not an option. It worked really well in New York City not many went into jail. Most of the ones that where arested from resisting to go to they shelters had psychological problems and placed in the psych hospitals. Other accepted the invitation to the shelters. The city didn't intend on jailing all the homeless, but they figured when given the option that they'll chose the shelter. At least at the shelter they can get help and possible find a job and move on with their life.
