  4. Congratulations Jason! I appreciate how you always share credit with your realtor, contractor, designers, and Houston MOD.

It is a great article in the number one National publication dedicated to Atomic Homes. The before and after photos are awesome.

You and your wife did a great job restoring your house and I admire and respect what you have accomplished.

  5. the buyer also purchased the old shopping center on the corner with the ruchis and nail salon. word on the street is its an apartment developer like gables or hanover is behind the purchase and redevelopment. high rise apartments with retail on the ground floor, parking garage, etc. good location and a much better use of the property.

  6. I know that Discovery Green is going to have an interactive fountain for childred to play in. I hope it's well designed and maintained so that it attracts families and not just another free bath for the bums. I've taken my child to the water play areas/guessing fountains at Hermann Park, Market Street in the Woodlands and the Aquariam downtown. I would like to see more public areas like this in Houston, If it's done right it can be a lot of fun and really improve the quality of life for Houston families.

I've been to the public water fountains in Portland's Pearl district and that place is just amazing. Light rail, farmers markets, mid rises with ground floor retail, side streets are closed and become pocket parks with benches, huge sidewalks and the waterfall park is great.

I know Seattle has a lot of parks with public water fountains and I hope to take my 2 year old there soon for a get wet tour. A friend told me that Chicago's Millenieum Park has a crazy fountain that shoots water out of some guys mouth on an interactive sign and the person changes every few minutes. Charlotte is supposed to have some great fountains like this as well.

I'm planning trips to parks like the ones I've described above over the next few years. Does anyone have any other suggestions. national or international?

Does anyone know of any other water parks, guessing fountains, or public spaces with water features that kids can hang out and be around diverse Houston kids?

  7. Anyone hear anything about a proposed office building on Center Street at White Street just off of Washington and Houston Ave. Very close to the 6th ward historic district. I've heard rumors of a collaboration between different architecture firms in Houston that are working on this project. Is it real? Is it going to happen or is it just another Shamrock? Will there be retail?

  8. Any update? How does phase one of their repairs look? Are they trying to fix up the complex or just get carol alvarado and rps off their back?

after reading the houston press article and being familiar with local vietnamese first and second generation immigrants in houston, i'm not surprised your having this problem with their lifestyle. it just seems that a lot of vietnamese are ok with living in dilipatated conditions on the outside but usually the inside of their homes have tile floors that are spotless. no shoes in the house. they also don't mind to have a lot of people in a small space. it also sounds like this group was taken advantage of when they converted the apartments to condos but never gave them the deeds. do you think they are just unorganized as a home owners association? this could be the case since they almost got scammed on the condo converstion in 92?

regardless, i was wondering why all the uproar about this one complex when honestly that entire street is nasty? broadway has some very ugly apartment complexs one after the other. i know that glenbrook has some very cool mods and some really awesome homes but it's still surrounded by class c and d rental properties.

the city giving money to fix up this street as a gateway for arrivinig visitors makes about as much sense to me as all of the dead palm trees they planted along 45 south for visiting vips when the superbowl came to town in 2000. the trees were supposed to hide all of the ugly billboards from visitors.

it is what it is and houston should just be houston. houston be yourself: ugly old broadway and all your nasty apartment complexes.

at least you guys have kellys country cooking at 45 and park place. if every visitor stopped there for pancakes on thier way to the airport then i think they would all leave houston with a great impression and a smile on their faces. they would never remember those apartment complexs in the passing windows. they'd be talking about how big those pancakes were.

  9. There used to be a coffee shop in the comcast space a few years ago. They went out of business after struggling along for a few years. I think it was Midtown Bagel Coffee shop. I hope these guys know what they are getting themselves into. I would not want to take on Starbucks everyday.
