  1. Greetings Howard,

You are in Kabul? Totally cool........well, I tell you what......I for one am going to allow you to really use your imagination for a moment.........

........where could I possibly be working........here that is within the rugged confines of Afghanistan........but yet I am not really allowed to reveal much about my employment situation or actual location that is.........actually, you and I are really quite close in proximity that is.........just know Howard that the actual company is indeed headquatered out of Houston respectively..........somehow, I think that you may soon have it......big big company........

Yes, I shall be going on my first R&R in a few months......and I am most certain that I shall be venturing back into the comfortable as well as magnificent confines of Dubai and really have good look around........you know, the works.....for those pictures from our buddy whom just visited really look good......since I was acutally in route to my job site......we only stayed for a brief visit.........but even however brief it was.........it was still exotic.....as well as extremely exciting.....for I just cannot wait to return to stay for abouit ten or so days.........Metro

Hmmm...I know what company you guys talking about when you say R&R. I love those acronyms...how about DFAC, LWOP. The PX? Does that sound familiar to you guys? Be careful out in Afghanistan...especially in Afghanistan...you guys still sleep in tents over there from what I heard.

  2. I totally agree that they're building quite fast, but if they're gearing up for tourism, it just might work out quite well.

While I don't exactly know what the king's motive(s) are for creating such a tourism/business ndustry, I'd say that in the end, it could be quite successfull. Dubai is fairly secular and the weather is fairly moderate for the region.

My only thing is that if something goes wrong, the rich might have to abandon their boats as the only entrance in and out of the area is through the Straight of Hormuz (sp) and Iran can easily shut that down.

Like I told you guys, I've traveled so much to Dubai ( will be here again this weekend!!!) that I know the in's and out's of that place.

The reason the Sheik Mohammed Ak Toum is building Dubai in a fast pace is because of TOURISM. You have to understand, Abu Dhabi is the sister city of Dubai. Abu Dhabi has lots of OIL and its whole economy surrounds that natural resource. Now Dubai, does not have that much Oil so the SHEIK wanted to jump start Dubai's economy through TOURISM. Yes, they are building in a fast pace ( imagine them building 5 downtown Houston at ONCE) in order to get some good return.

As you all know, they have built the Palm Jumeraih which by the way is ALL SOLD...I've been on the Palm Island and its OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! I have to give props to the person that came up with this kind of building structure.

Nightlife is AWESOME!!! I recommend club Trilogy at the Madinat Jumeraih and Peppermint inside the Fairmont Hotel. You will NOT be dissappointed.

There is so many things available to do in Dubai...even some that you would of NEVER expect to happen in a Muslim country.

  3. Yes, Dubai is very diverse: You have arabic, american, brits, chinese, filipino's, indian etc.... The cafe shot I took it at the Dubai Marina close to a hotel of the name Grosvenor House. I would heavily recommend the Buddha Bar located inside that hotel...very nice and chill atmosphere to socialize. Here are some more pics of my trips to Dubai. Enjoy...

  4. McMansions are popping up in many unlikely areas. 16/1700 blk of Wellington first blk E of Hardy toll road has a "biggie" on N side of street. I wouldn't consider it a McMansion, but it is quite overbuild for the area. Futher down street is lot covered with bricks, maybe he's a brick layer? I would never win the "yard of the month", but most of those over build for the area do not seem to do

ANY landscaping & soon the place just blends in with the neighborhood. Between 59N & Hardy Toll Rd there are many large new homes being built. Building in these areas with no or little restrictions allows the owners to be able to have parking for vehickles/equipment/etc. with no complaints from neighbors [as many neighbors probably work for the owner of the large new homes]. Much of the new construction is probably neighborhood development projects with lots being acquired from governments for little cost for the lots. Lots are tax foreclosures/etc. There are huge lots in the area, many @ 200' deep with very beautiful mature trees.

I think the house you are talking about is on E Hardy Toll Road and Gulf Bank. I want to say that is a "true" mansion and I have mentioned it before in this forum. I would try to post pics later.

  5. Smoking in a lounge/club - I think eventually it will be banned everywhere like in L.A

Nike Shox shoes - the tennis shoes with springs at the bottom

Reality Shows - I think their welcomed is overdue

Fax machines - does anybody still use this?

    Cd's, dvd's

  6. Ok, so if anybody that has ever watched "I love the 80's" on VH1, you know at the direction that I am going to. I see so many trends now that may seem "cool" for today's age but 15-20 years from now we are going to be like...WHAT IN THE F### WERE WE THINKING?

Ok so I will give a list of things that people started with trends in this new millenium 2000-present

Myspace - why is this site so addictive? There were so many of them out there even before myspace

Lance Armstrong Cancer Yellow wristbands - (are ugly looking n eventually brought too many posers)

faux hawk haircut - aka David Beckham's styling haircut

mouth "grills" - Can you say PAUL WALL!!!

Current cell phones like RAZR - Sure they look cool now, but just imagine what the future has for us.

T-shirts with messages - Ex. abercrombie, a&e shirts with messages about states, restaurants etc..

    Spinning wheels/rims

IPOD - again, imagine how the future's technology will change this

Ok guys, please continue the list...

  7. Changes are good. I think ever since Sam Malone left ( although I didn't like him) things started to go downhill and just became too repetitive. C'mon, how many times in a day can we listen to Kelly Clarkson, All American Rejects, Mariah Carey, Fall Out Boy etc...

I do support the more of a mix type music or probably go back to a techno-like station at night.

  8. My Thoughts:

    1. Everything in Houston is SO spreadout!

    2. Because of #1, we use more gas

    3. Because of #2, our demand is higher, see this link Click on the Interative Maps

    4. We all own cars in Houston, so most Taxis are localized at airports only.

If cab fare became cheap in Houston, do you think that more residents will start using a cab rather than get in a car and drive to their destination?

  9. Ok ...we have heard East End, Idylwood, Midtown, Washington Corridor are all neighborhoods that are up and coming with gentrification. Now my question is...where do you predict will be the next "boom" of new townhomes/house development where you will see yuppies, bohemians, professional be trying to established themselves and creating another midtown?

Is there still a place left in the Houston area that has lots of potential but for some reason builders are quite not taking the risk right now, but do have an eye on it as future potential?

  10. How is flying a mexican flag on your property alowable yet flying a rebel flag deemed offensive ?

Lets assume this flag and house in question.. this occupant is perfectly legal, has lived here for generations..

and he is a proud American and at the same time a proud Mexican-American.

The rebel flag is deemed offensive to blacks.

One can't be proud to be a Southern-American.. or least they cant show it with a flag.

How many states have had to take the rebel flag off their capitol building ?

Slavery was just one aspect of the Civil War... yet thanks to racist groups like the KKK.. the symbol of the south has been turned into something offensive.

That doesnt mean every southerner is racist. That doesnt mean every proud southerner who would fly that flag if they could does so out of racist intents.

This is more carrying over from my earlier post.

Its more allowable for any other race to be offended here than it is for whitey.

A house flying a mexican flag gets defended by people here in this forum, yet if it were a conferderate flag.. some in here would dismiss the occupant as racist, the flag as offensive, and demand action be taken.

Let's not forget that this is AMERICA...the land of the free! So if you want to fly any other flag, is your right.

  11. Ben Reyes, once a prominent local politician in Houston, will be coming back to town to finish his prison sentence. If he would of never committed any crime, could he had been the mayor, governor of Texas, or congressman?

  12. I know that 6th degrees lounge/bar closed its doors not so long ago...do you know if they are going to reopen anything new in that space?

6th degrees used to be located at the bottom of the bayou lofts building.
