  1. here's the answer they gave about why the bike lanes are not protected HPW shares your interest in making bikeways as safe and comfortable as possible. As projects move from planning through design and ultimately implementation, design standards frequently evolve, and HPW works hard to incorporate updated design standards whenever possible. Bikeway designs, in particular, have evolved substantially in Houston as national and international best practices are adopted and accepted into local design standards. In this case, this section of Shepherd/Durham was designed and budgeted several years before physically separated bikeways were common practice in Houston. Modifying the design at this point would require substantial changes to the roadway design and construction budgets and therefore cannot be accommodated at this time. Future improvements to the bikeway may be possible with a separate project.
  2. I dont know, I feel like these drivers are just going to swerve into the lane anytime its convenient for them
  3. https://www.engagehouston.org/shepherdanddurham check out the q&a section
  4. those sketches are a bit misleading, there wont be any kind of physical barrier to the bike lane, just the painted 3 foot buffer zone. Kind of a bad idea IMO considering how fast traffic moves on this road.

  7. I sent out some emails and was told that the houston parks board is the one that owns this bridge. here's there email if yall want to send also send them your thoughts info@houstonparksboard.org also the lady I was talking to said that sending in a 311 request is the best way to make noise about it. Not sure if doing all this bitching will change anything in how much they prioritize this project but a man can hope.
