Now that Houston won the world cup bid, do you guys think Metro will feel more inclined to speed up progress on the University or Inner Katy Line, or even start working on the Metrorapid line to IAH/Purple and green line extension to Hobby? After all, the Red Line (originally the Main Street Line) was built partially for the 2004 Super Bowl.
I really hope this can spur some good downtown to IAH/HOU transit options!

Yeah so they are in no way related to Local Group, which is a few blocks away? And also space themed?

I'm in the shops often for lunch at work and the restaurants are as busy as they were pre-construction. Yeah it looks messy but I'm still able to access all the same places and access the entrances/exits (including the elevators on the Phoenicia side). I'll be honest, the place looked pretty rough/broken down before they started on this project....

"The number of people deemed homeless in the Houston region has been cut by 63 percent since 2011, according to the latest numbers from local officials. Even judging by the more modest metrics registered in a 2020 federal report, Houston did more than twice as well as the rest of the country at reducing homelessness over the previous decade."
Amazing -- especially considering that 1.5 million more people live in the Houston metro area now vs in 2011.

I was at Tennis Express out on Westhimer and they have signs that the building will soon be for lease. The staff were saying that they are moving to a larger space off of Westpark and Ranchester (90k vs 40k sf) — should be happening later this month.

Some news on Allen Parkway Village -- people are being asked to relocate temporarily for renovations.

I was checking the Houston bike plan map and even their proposed trails are just ok for the galleria area.

I may be mixing concepts, but the Days Inn/Heaven on Earth was mentioned as a candidate for some manner of affordable housing, but again, maybe only here.
The 800 Bell residential speculation is probably just plausible wishful thinking for it's next use given the amount of nicer and better located vacant office space elsewhere downtown. That property represents a huge chunk of square footage and I wonder how much work it requires to keep the infrastructure from decaying.
Ah yep that is what I was thinking of :)

Has there been any talk about converting 800 Bell into residential? That would be a lot of units!.
Wasn't there a proposal to make it affordable housing?

Is it complete or are they still working on it?
I haven't biked it but I believe it is open today

Woot! I think the long term plan is for this to continue and cross over I10 to get all the way to Memorial Park. I recall seeing some mockups somewhere on HAIF a while ago.
Its the little connectors like this or the one by Stude park that can make such a difference to a comprehensive network. Eliminate those pinch points and people are much more ready to give it a try.

Is it going to be the whole complex? I thought it was just the one building West of St. Emanuel but it looks like I was wrong.
Yes all three blocks as well as the interior roads are currently blocked off.

Looks nice! Although that corner has to flood pretty bad, its like the lowest point in downtown.

Looks like Night Shift's loss is Local Group's gain.
"Distincture Hospitality has also hired chef Daniel Leal, formerly of Night Shift bar, to oversee a new “casual comfort” menu, set to debut in June. (Until then, the kitchen remains closed.)"
