  1. The only thing European about Shell is the outside shell which is fairly unique. Everything else is American. Roof only on 2 halves, and a concert roof. Unheard of in Europe. 2 tiers where the lower tier is very small. Very rare in Europe until recently. Full connecting walk around concourse. Very very rare in Europe. Bars looking over the field wasting space where seats could be. Unheard of in Europe. Now there are 2 new things added last year, one which is European(Safe Standing), and one which is super American(Table seats).
  2. Hey I always see newly released prisoners looking for something to eat downtown.
  3. Is there nothing else on this anywhere? This is a huge deal and could severely hinder the city in the long term. All that's needed is a 51% vote and any neighborhood can apply. And if it's anything like the historic districts, they can just change the boundaries until an area is 51% in favor. https://www.letstalkhouston.org/conservationdistrict https://abc13.com/houston-news-neighborhoods-conservation-districts-independence-heights/13043991/
  4. Just walked through and the new Highlight signs and the entrances are much more inviting with the lighting. The only thing open was the game place. The march madness fest is really annoying because they are blocking discovery green and all the streets. If you want to walk from the Hilton to the Marriot you have to go all the way to Austin street or Chartres street. There were some tourists that looked very confused.
  5. This parking lot is always full. Those picture were probably taken in the morning before any of those businesses were open.
  6. I'm sure there's a few Hotels and Offices with no ground floor retail that would be big haters/complainers.
  7. Yea it would be nice and all, but pedestrianizing a street that doesn't have a huge barrier in the middle would be a much better choice. Yes if there is no choice, but its sad that its main street or nothing. Imagine if we pedestrianized the north 5 blocks of Travis street or pick your option. The effect would be immense.
  8. A cathedral is basically a headquarters church for the area. But even a normal church here, 98% of people are driving. Churches as a village center haven't been a thing here since the 1800s when everybody went to church and neighborhoods were segregated by religion.
  9. There's a new very popular Taiwanese bubble tea chain called Gong Cha opening soon inbetween Zalat and Gyu Kaku. This is huge news for any bubble tea drinkers in the downtown area. I can already predict the downfall of the midtown Kung Fu Tea as people only really go there because there is no other option nearby.
  10. For just $1 a day YOU can save your rich neighbors from bloodthirsty millennials.
  11. Also there is a new fancy taco truck called Orange Taco across the street.
  12. Just opened this afternoon. About 10 dogs in the dog park already.
  13. What they should do is just isolate the cycling lane with a fence or hedgerow in between it and the park part. Then make the entrances to the cycle lane only at the street sidewalk.
  14. Seems like the landlords are happy with things empty. Why would they cut a deal?
  15. But why on earth would you order a pizza in Ischia?? Stick to the world class seafood and, of course, the famous rabbit.
  16. Maybe they are waiting for him to die to tear it down. I say we fly him in to watch the demolition.
  17. Oh thank god. I refuse to go to places that have terrible hours as well. The place it replaced was never open.
  18. Its pretty bad pizza honestly, but I'll still eat it if I'm hungry. It's about the same level as those pizza van guys and the best part is you don't have to talk to anyone. Now if we could get one of those serve yourself beer spots downtown I will be in heaven. Also, has anybody tried Citadel BBQ at 805 Dallas? I have never seen that place until today.
  19. Hopefully they take their waste of space valet with them.
  20. I can't get over how ugly and unuseful that whale bones thing is. Just put a real playground or even better more trees and grass.
  21. Just thought this was interesting. I calculated the number of high rises at least 35 meters(115 feet) tall including built or currently under construction in each Metro area based on the database at https://skyscraperpage.com. Obviously not 100% accurate, but it is something to show where Houston is compared to our neighbors.
