  1. Somewhat related to all this: has anyone gotten a hold of management at Andes Cafe to see what their plan is? I haven't seen anyone other than waitstaff at Andes recently, and I was curious what was going to happen when Marquette moves to renovate their building. I think it would be great to see Andes move into the structure on 2404, when complete, but I wasn't sure if anyone knew what the timeline was going to be.
  2. Oh man, I forgot that the original look was going to be colorful. Oh well. I do like the wood-paneled side.
  3. Please, block my sunlight! My cooling bills will go down in half. Though, yes. I will have to switch the herbs/vegetables I grow when the sunlight changes.
  4. You are correct. I don't care. There was a beautiful tree on that lot before that blocked my view from the 2nd story because the tree was so big. The view is only available from the third floor right now, and while it is a lovely view, I bought a piece of property in the East End with two massive vacant lots in front of me (this one and the one owned by Midway across from Alamo Tamales). I was under no delusion that the lots would be left undeveloped.
  5. Looks like the did more work today than just concrete. I guess we are officially "Going Up."
  6. Interesting. Looks like you took this right before they poured concrete. The pylons pictured here have been filled as of yesterday. I'll send some pics when I get home.
  7. It opened. It opened, it was a disaster from what i understand. Employees weren't paid, rent wasn't paid (build out took longer than expected and no cash flow), heard a rumor that the owner offered to pay an employee in coke when payroll didn't go through, and oh yeah, the dude admitted to Eater that he had no restaurant experience aside from having "been to many" in his life. Unfortunately that article is now deleted. Interesting story all around.
  8. STCL won't sell. That lot is a sticky subject among faculty and administration. When I was at school there, I had a lot of discussions with folks about that lot. EVERYONE it seems wants to do something with it, but no one will. When the city approached them about selling the tiny lot that they have on the block that was home to the Goodyear store, and will now be a park, the school didn't budge. There were whispers that some folks in the administration tried to get the school to sell the small lot, and use the money to fund a garage on the big lot. Didn't happen. Apparently when that big lot was used as part of the super bowl festivities, it was one of the first times in ages that it was used for something other than parking. Long story short, I never got to the bottom of what the hell exactly is the problem with that lot (a slow administration, "waiting for the right price," or an overly restrictive trust owning that lot) but I can promise you, that lot will never be sold.
  9. I live right off it. I've always found it to be lovely during the nighttime events with the lights lit up, and music playing. Light breeze makes it great. But yeah, during the day, or when the weather isn't great, its pretty far from romantic. EEMD needs to beautify it a little bit more before it gains full "romantic boulevard" status.
  10. They are. They are being built in a strange order too. Instead of being built row by row, they seem to be popping up in random order. It's been puzzling me when I walk by.
  11. It does, which is why I think a lot of this is just hype. I wouldn't be surprised if Midway isn't actively working to ensure this much Low Income/Subsidized housing doesn't come up around it's development. Can't be too hard too. The website above shows low-income housing being built in a Superfund Site. Imagine that press. The press alone would kill that development
  12. "Houston's only shoppable, boutique, AirBnB." I'm sorry y'all, but can someone please explain what that means? Is it an AirBnB where people can stay to live, but then I guess, run a shop from it? Also, doesn't that go against AirBnB ToCs?
  13. I like that they are using a similar brick to the firestation next door. Helps it fit in a little better, despite the rather unimaginative design.
  14. What a highly aesthetic ampersand. I wonder if they handwrote it to keep up with the "historic" mission.
  15. People usually leave Commerce and take Bastrop to the below-grade crossing and cut along the Shops at Navigation right before hitting Canal. I see that intersection from by bedroom. There is no traffic coming from Commerce to Navigation where that traffic circle will go.
  16. No trains near that though. Purple/Green line are a bit off, and the freight line has a below-grade crossing leading up to it. Runnels needs a below/above grade crossing, but there isn't much traffic in that direction. I don't think there will be any train problems at that intersection.
  17. We can only hope that the roundabout will be coming soon. Never thought I would say that a roundabout would be a better solution, but man is it ever here.
  18. Are you saying that EaDo is gonna Crimea the East End? Damn it. Does anyone know if the flag shop on Fannin sells Russian flags?
  19. There is also "EaDo Edge" off Jensen and Clinton, by UrbanLiving. It annoys me cause it's its not EaDo edge, it's EastEnd Edge, if anything. But alas.
