I just saw a youtube video of the skydeck views ( there are several)  from the One Vanderbilt in NYC. It is impressive. Got to pay though.

Its incredible!! I don't think theres anything in the world that can compare! I wish we had "a" skydeck or any observation deck :/ we have multiple beautiful skylines!

Some times long-term gain requires a little short-term pain...   (And in this case it is truly a little short-term pain... again, in 2021, who is still using airport luggage carts?)

Anyone who takes 2 suitcases with them on an international flight 💀, I just came back from an international flight and me and my friends each had 2 suitcases.... were we supposed to hold them on our backs 😂

It is. Green is Third Ward.

Before TXDOT built highways that cut the Third Ward into pieces, the boundaries were Main St in Midtown and Harrisburg in the East End. Even if you don't consider anything west of 59 as being Third Ward, the effects of the development has the potential to affect the historical community in the area.

I had no idea! I didn't even know the museum district, downtown, and EADO were all considered 3rd ward! Thanks for the explanation!

  4. The building is beautiful, I just wish they put more work into the outside landscape/ entrance. Imagine if they built an eye-catching garage on the east or west parking lot and converted the entire front of the building into greenery or something. The outside looks a little, unfinished for something thats practically finished.

  5. I completely agree with Montrose! I feel for those who may have to move, but for the businesses/ churches? The majority of the highway is surrounded by crumbling infrastructure. There are WAY too many billboards and abandoned signs, driveways in mediocre state, and absolutely no landscaping. Im sure every single one of us acknowledge that this highway is an extreme eyesore. I understand that the money could be spent on numerous other projects but this project would be a HUGE positive for Houston. Imagine if this highway ends up looking like the Katy freeway. I know there's still a traffic issue on Katy freeway but its a BEAUTIFUL highway. The highway is surrounded with lush landscape and greenery. Driving from i45 to i10 is like night and day. i45 is by far one of the ugliest highways I've ever seen (and i've been to NY, FL, CA, CO). Its one of the first impressions outsiders get when they travel from the airport and the reason a lot of outsiders say "Houston is ugly".  I think the Houston architecture forum should realize that this project is going to beautify our city. Yes public transportation should be our main focus, but THIS highway and the surrounding strip centers needs to be addressed as well. We can pass this project and see an instant improvement to the area, or we can reject it and wait for each and every parcel to be renovated/ rebuild (if and when).......so maybe in the next 100-200 years?

  6. lol all this for saying we deserve something healthier 😅 my closest friend is a nutritionist and a trainer, but it doesn't take the brightest person to acknowledge that a fast food restaurant like taco bell isn't healthy. Their "beef" was found to have only "36% actual beef" the rest is filler, they even add cocoa powder to the meat to give it color. I can go on and on about how many of these fast food restaurants are not healthy, the internet is free and so are people's will to choose where to eat. All I said was I wish we had healthier options (we have fast food restaurants on almost every single block in the city).

These "everything causes cancer" and "water and commies" posts are corny, we have to stop acting like America doesn't have a health problem, America literally has the highest Obesity rate among developed countries. I can go on and on, but we allll know America is very "healthy" and we need to do better.

  7. I drive from 59 to Holcombe on buffalo speedway everyday and I can't believe it's going to get rebuilt. That portion of buffalo speedway is in EXCELLENT condition. Its so strange to me that this excellent portion is getting rebuilt, yet the portion of buffalo speedway from Holcombe to Main is an absolute nightmare and isn't planned for reconstruction anytime soon. This scenario is similar to Westheimer being in excellent condition in Upper Kirby and 3rd world condition in Lower Westheimer 😕

  8. One less strip center with a giant billboard-like sign, one more beautiful building. Not only is this building modern, but it has dimension (isn't a box) and incorporates multiple elements (isn't all glass). Also, they understand how important it is to place the main showroom close to the Westheimer street level. Everyone driving/walking by will be able to get a glimpse of the inside.
