  1. For maximum safety on a shared bike/walking/jogging path, pedestrians should:

    a) Stick to the right

    B) When walking/jogging two abreast, move over to allow a faster trail user to overtake you

    c) Keep the volume on earphones low enough so that you can hear a cylist coming up behind you

    d) If you hear the phrase "on your left", it means you are about to be passed on the left. It does not mean you should jump to your left, which usually puts you and a cyclist in a bad situation

    e) Please, PLEASE do not walk your dog on a retractable leash. Cyclists usually can't see them until it is too late.

    +100

I heartily concur with all these.. While biking the TC Jester trail, I've encountered many runners/walkers who would be good to abide by these. These should be posted.

With D, it amazes me that runners have to turn around to look at you and end up being in the middle or left lane when you're trying to pass.. Sometimes I may not even say anything an give them a wide berth and just go by them cautiously.. Usually they end up startled, but neither of us are laying on the ground..

And if there's a kid on a bike or walking.. I slow to a crawl.. I think kids purposefully jump in front of you when you're about to pass. :)

  2. Actually, they were lied to by the right wing into thinking the Patriot Act didn't effect them... so they were subservient.

Of course this health care "bill" (technically it's not even a bill yet... but people are angry over proposals) affects everyone... just like any other piece of legislation impacts you in one way or another. The only reason people are so angry about this is that they have been lied to again by the right wing.

Ignorance is bliss, and kool aid tastes good!

pages 284-288, SEC. 1151. REDUCING POTENTIALLY PREVENTABLE HOSPITAL READMISSIONS:

    1. This section amends the Social Security Act

    2. The government has the power to determine what constitutes an “applicable [medical] condition.”

    3. The government has the power to determine who is allowed readmission into a hospital.

    4. This determination will be made by statistics: when enough people have been discharged for the same condition, an individual may be readmitted.

    5. This is government rationing, pure, simple, and straight up.

    6. There can be no judicial review of decisions made here. The Secretary is above the courts.

    7. The plan also allows the government to prohibit hospitals from expanding without federal permission: page 317-318.

pages 26-30, SEC. 122, ESSENTIAL BENEFITS PACKAGE DEFINED:

    1. The bill defines “acceptable coverage” and leaves no room for choice in this regard.

    2. By setting a minimum 70% actuarial value of benefits, the bill makes health plans in which individuals pay for routine services, but carry insurance only for catastrophic events, (such as Health Savings Accounts) illegal.

Will the PLAN destroy private health insurance?

Pages 149-150, SEC. 313, EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTIONS IN LIEU OF COVERAGE

    1. The bill does not prohibit a person from buying private insurance.

    2. Small businesses—with say 8-10 employees—will either have to provide insurance to federal standards, or pay an 8% payroll tax. Business costs for health care are higher than this, especially considering administrative costs. Any competitive business that tries to stay with a private plan will face a payroll disadvantage against competitors who go with the government “option.”

    3. The pressure for business owners to terminate the private plans will be enormous.

    4. With employers ending plans, millions of Americans will lose their private coverage, and fewer companies will offer it.

    5. The Commissioner (meaning, always, the bureaucrats) will determine whether a particular network of physicians, hospitals and insurance is acceptable.

    6. With private insurance starved, many people enrolled in the government “option” will have no place else to go.

But that's okay.. it's really about covering people and keeping costs down.. not about control of you and your lives.

    Drink up!

Edit: Yes is it a "Bill".. HR3200.. it would not have a number if it were still in committee..

  3. Check this out:

Really. Regardless of your political bent, don't we deserve better?

Indeed.. She's a disgrace.. And I've yet to get any response to issues I've had with pending legislation in the past. A form letter would be better than ignoring..

  4. I think this info got released in the dead of the night, so not much advance warning...

It's by design.. Surprised she didn't announce a Heights location..

Edit: actually, no.. I'm not surprised..

  5. Ah.. too bad I missed Queen Sheila.. That would have been fun..

Indeed, 19th REALLY should be shut down for this event, at least between Heights and Nicholson.. It's difficult to walk by people single file.. And also hard to chat, listen to the bands, browse vendors, or even to pop in a shop when the crowds are squeezed onto a small sidewalk.. Add some jogging strollers and you have real chaos! ;)

  6. After using the search function on this forum, it appears threads are being displayed as collapsed.. (where the topics are shown at the bottom of the message) and only one message at a time is being displayed..

uhm.. can this be turned back? I'd prefer the whole thread and messages rather than collapsed one at a time..

    Thanks

  7. I never really considered Washington Ave part of the Heights.. I guess since there's no Rice Military folder in this forum, the Heights area is the closest to start threads on bars on Washington. :)

Rummaging the site, I found this map which by eyeballing, looks as tho the Heights area ends a bit north of Washington, and the streets seem to end north of White Oak.

Of course boundaries can change, so I'd consider the map as posted above the "official" current Heights..

I'm not a professional, I just play one on the internet. :)

  8. We did an appraisal the middle of last year for a re-finance, just before the major housing bust..

Chase sent out a gangsta wannabe to do our appraisal, and came in 50K under our current balance, where 2 years before, our appraisal was above 100K our current balance. (And by gangsta wannabe, sideways hat, shorts falling off with boxers.. very unprofessional and a bad reflection on Chase) Naturally we were declined on ONE appraisal.. I asked provide my own appraisal and pay for it myself, they would have nothing to do with it..

BoA sent an appraiser out, and came in 150K over our current balance, and was happy to refinance.

Not sure what the wide discrepancy was.. Nothing changed, and the time difference was within a few months.. Maybe had to do with familiarity with the area..?

  9. I used to go to Remmert's on 16th just east of Heights. They were good, honest and reasonable.

Thanks for the note on this place.. Its very convenient to my place in case I had to drop the car off and walk home.. Might have to check it out for some long overdue service..

  10. I would also like to know any information regarding new streets and curbs for Oxford and Columbia. If anyone knows the details, or rumors, please post them.

Oxford between 14th and 16th is being rebuilt and curbs and drainage are being installed.. One lane is already completed.. the other side should probably be done shortly..

Not sure about other areas of Oxford.. but since I drive/walk/bike by here every day, I'd say this is accurate.. ;)
