  1. 1) 1500sqft

    2) 1920

    3) ~$300

    4) Reliant (ugh)

This old brick duplex is on the ground floor, with 5 window units, 3 which are usually on all day because of a nanny and the little one at home. I'd say it never gets lower than about 80-85 during the heat of the day.. the temp just about breaks even.

3 weeks and we go to a renovated 1930s house in the Heights. New insulation everywhere and new windows. I'm so looking forward to moving.

  2. i would like to see a HOOTERS around the sawyer heights village.. that would be nice.. wo hooo :P

Better yet, another BW3's. The place in midtown never has parking, and always busy, and the village is too far (and there is no parking)

And their sauce is spicier than h00ters. :P

  3. One thing maybe to consider on the reason was the adoption of air conditioning. Windows may have been covered to help "insulate" and aluminum added to help deflect the sun. Just a guess.

I always wondered if that is also why ranch style houses were so prevalant in the 50-60's as well. Since A/C was probably not so efficient, they decided to have small windows and 1 story "compartmentalized" houses to try to make the most of the A/C available. Just a guess again....

  4. Pink Floyd on the Division Bell Tour at Rice Stadium. (I forget the year) The only thing that sucked was pouring rain after 45 minutes in the show, half the lights not working on stage any more, and Dave's guitar finally giving up. The lazers in the rain were GREAT until they stopped working...

Also School of Fish at the Vatacan, early 1990's? that place was nuts. They did a cover of George Michaels' "Father Figure" and people were moshing.

Good times.. thanks, i'll go back to sleep now.

  5. Looked at the pics. There is no sign anywhere on the building anymore. As for the backhole and bulldozer it does look like it has something to do with the "bayou walk phase II", concrete along the bank has been spray painted

Yeah.. the signs were posted at the top of the ramp and one at the bottom of the ramp. They were spray-painted on wood boards in neon orange paint. Idunno if they are still there.. They might be discarded in the bushes.

Good deal if they're continuing the bayou walk. the only problem with going east of this bridge is they will have to build up some walkway as the buildings on the south bank to the east of this location drop straight into the bayou.

I'll keep my eyes open.

  6. I don't know about that. So far it still looks like wishful thinking. I was down there yesterday and the "for sale" sign is still up and look at the original thread it started about a year ago with no hard references. I think a 24hr coffee shop would be nice there with bookstore of course....the canoe rental could be based out from under the Main St. bridge

I walk by about every day for lunch. There was a spray-painted sign a couple weeks ago saying "Construction starts 5/28/06". There were some people who parked down at the bayou for free. Now the gates are closed and today there was a bulldozer and a backhoe there parked at at the bottom of the bayou (almost under the bridge). Maybe it is unrelated utilities being run or something. But here's to hoping!

    Cheers!

  7. Anyone know what is going on in that old green building on/near Allen's Landing. I've tried to research the building for some time but never came up with anything. Now the concrete near San Jacinto and Commerce is marked up with neon paint going down into the bayou.

They had some goofy water thing with trees there a few years back. I hope that's not returning.

    Cheers!

  8. So all in the same area, cool. Hopefully it will all be state of the art courts and jail facilities.

Aye. The current thought is that there will be RFID for inmate tracking. (Which may or may not actually happen) Also there will be video visitation rather than the behind the plexi-glass type that is currently being used. Too much contraband still seeping through.

  9. According to the Sheriff's website, their address is now 1200 Baker St. I guess that means 1301 Franklin is ALL records storage.

This is true. This was the old jail full of rats which now just holds records. (And rats) I don't know of any plans to renovate or make it something else since it is doing it's job fine.

Also, across from the new 1200 Baker jail will be a joint IPC (Inmate Processing Centre) for HPD and the Sheriff's Office slated to open in 2010. From what I remember it will be somewhere around 10 floors.

    Cheers!

  10. Bike lanes are a JOKE. Lee Brown should be ashamed, and I want my money back. You'll be risking death if you think that a little stripe cutting the right lane will keep those 2 ton cars from squishing you like a Texas garden roach. Not to mention Metro buses with teeth. Houston is not a biking city. (I've biked MS150 numerous times, plus thousands of miles around town. not *IN* town. so don't tell me I'm not a biker.)

Houston is not a bike friendly city. You want to bike here? Get a motorcycle. Bike lanes are/were the biggest waste of money in this city. $2.6B for the Katy freeway will be a miniscule cost divided by the number of people who use it EVERY DAY. Count the few tens of people who use the disintegrating "bike lanes" and you got a damn good bargain at $2.6B.

  11. the project is at 608 stanford, which is just south of allen parkway.

there are renderings and more information on barden's site: www.carolisaakbarden.com, under "current projects."

both units have 500+ sqft roof decks :)

aye, between w. dallas and stanford.

there used to be a centerpoint energy parking lot over there (the lot is still there, just no cars)

it is across the street from my house, so i'm glad to see something more 'asthetic' go on this property.

i just hope the drug dealers who hang out on stanford behind the elementary school will be run off.. grr

    :angry2:

    Cheers!
