  1. the fact that carr hasn't been traded says to me that he wasn't really on the market. I think the Texans just entertained offers because the desire was out there. But no one blew them away which is what it would have taken. All these mediocre quarterbacks getting signed should tell you something most people fail to see Carr is or has potential to be better than any of these guys moved in free agency.

The fact that he led the league in completion percentage on a bad team should tell you something. Consider that this past year's texans team was a lot closer to

8-8 than 4-12. The fact that the titans won more games is attributed to the fact that they defensive playmakers and a great coach.

I for one will be real dissapointed if the team gets rid of Carr for inferior talent just for the sake of change. I think i have more faith in them as proffesionals to evaluate talent. I think they have come out and said that they need to do a better job coaching, they have said carr needs to improve. I think they also need a wide reciever that can get open not another possesion reciever, thats what the running game is for. Obviously o-line help to hold the pocket up for any quarterback to succeed. they need a safety and another d-back.

  2. While I'd hate to see the golf course go, I think it will be better utilize as a stadium with additional fields. It's a massive piece of land, so I can't see why they can't just keep a 9-hole course.

While some people on here derided a 9 hole golf course as pointless, perhaps I should point out to "mulligan's" over by Jones @ 1960 that seems to do quite well up there for the past 20 years or so. It can be a great place for beginners who can't afford the green fee's of a larger course to play as regularly.

there is an article in the latest issue of golf digest about the growing popularity of nine hole golf courses and the origin of the current 18 hole standard. There are plenty of times when i'd like to get out and play golf and do it for 2 and a half hours as opposed to 5. this all being said i have never played gus wortham. I understand it is a hassle to get on at memorial(but i would like to do it) and i have played herman several times and enjoyed it.

this all being said whats wrong with the astrodome location? couldn't we demolish that relic and put in a world class soccer stadium. there is all that existing suface parking.

  3. Well, if you look around the NFL there not enough black coaches. Furthermore, when the last time Texas in general had almost all black coaching staff? Never. Cowboys? Never. Texans? Never, until now. Almost half of the staff now is black coaches. Could this be the works of the new GM, Rick Smith? Hell, they may decide on a black quarterback this offseason, or in the draft?

Question: When was the last time you seen a black player on the Astros roster, or staff? Never! And people complain about that. They even boycott the Astros right in front MMP.

why are you so fixated on race is the real question?

to answer your question about the astros, off the top of my head, Preston Wilson last year. But I 'm sure what you are implying is right they are passing over the best talent because they don't want any "black" players.

Are there a wealth of black athletes playing division 1 college baseball, Are they wasting away in the minor leagues. Or are they interested in other sports? or no sports at all? who cares.

Bottom line is I want the texans to put a winning team on the field. You are just looking like an ass pulling out the race card.

  4. The Texans are getting more black coaches on their staff now. They just hired two of them already, and Kubiak still in talks with Frank Bush(black) from Cardinals to be the assistant head coach/defensive.

Kubiak and Rick Smith is really doing a good job so far in the staff.

Oh so i missed this goal for the offseason, hire more "black" coaches! Is that the measure of a good staff to you? You make yourself seem less credible everytime you post in this thread. Can you explain this to me

  5. Lucy is the nearly complete, as well as the most complete fossilized, skeletal remains of an Australopithecine discovered by Don Johansen in 1974. The Houston Museum of Natural Science was very fortunate to have arranged for an exhibit of Lucy that was to occur in 2006. But, I can't find anything on it.

Did she come and go? Had the visit been delayed? Canceled?

    if nearly complete means 40%....

granted that is more than what is typically found

I believe she is dated at somewhere around 3 million years if my memory serves me

  6. I might be the only guy on here that wouldn't mind David Carr back. I am all for more competition for his job and will be pleased if someone comes in and can be better than him. I of course want the team to take the next step forward and win more games, I just don't think they were there yet as a team this past year. Too many rookies starting and players on I.R. to overcome. I am also of the opinion though that too much emphasis is placed on the quarterback position in terms of making or breaking a teams shot at winning in the league these days. Sure the QB touches the ball on nearly every play and it's his job to distribute it. But he needs all the peices around him to work too. We had several games with no running game and others where we had no pass protection, plenty where AJ dropped numerous catchable balls. I think Eric Moulds was a bust this year and I don't think I've heard that anywhere. He doesn't seem to have the skills left to get down the field with speed anymore which is what should help open up our offense. Of course, that is mute if the quarterback has no time or pocket to even escape from. Of course this could be all on Carr's percieved lack of pocket presence and awareness. We all know you could look at it either way: it's on the injured o-line, or it's on the quarterback. I just won't be heartbroken if we have another great draft and free agent season and carr is still here, In that case I still see the team improving to .500 ball or better.

I seem to have become a David Carr apologist because I have become annoyed with the baseless arguements of the talking heads on the local talk radio. With there undying support for Vince Young(who is a division rival) and how he single handedly leads his team back in games when in 3 out of 5 games it's his defense that has forced the fumbles and picked up the interceptions late in games and VY finishes it off with a 10 yd touchdown run to be proclaimed as the Leader of the comebacks and the savior of humanity.

sorry for the long rant just wondering if I am alone in my support for whatever the Texans decide is right to get this team on the winning track

  8. name one team that would rather have Carr starting than their starting QB - injured situations don't count for ex. Jeff Garcia since McNabb is hurt.

Texans could make a play for Matt Schaub, current backup behind Vick in Atlanta. Young QB, with a couple of years experience, though on the bench. Was a 3rd round pick I believe.

    oakland

    san fransisco

    tampa bay

    minnesota

    buffalo

    cleveland

    detroit

    and maybe chicago

  9. How bout Bledsoe to Houston for Carr. Carr would make a good backup to Romo.

no matter how frustrated you guys are with the texans offense as a whole or Carrs progression on a crappy team in a new system with an injury riddled O-line, you are foolish to think he is a backup i think there are plenty of teams in the nfl where he would be an upgrade over there starting QB.

  10. what was the name of that other ride that dropped you there, preceding the dungeon drop? was it the sky screamer? it had an agonizing beep that would go off two or three seconds before it dropped you i liked that one but it scared the crap out of me! I remember my brother getting kicked out for taking his seatbelt off on thunder river and jumping in, he claimed he and his buddy were thrown out!!

last time i was there was the mid-90's on a fright night halloween night. I could tell we didn't belong there anymore. This was confirmed when we were walking across the parking lot and some kids ran between us and the shots rang between us as some other kids chased them shooting.

good ridance as it's time of family fun was done in my eyes. but I'll cherish the memories except those last ones.

  11. The plan was always for a regular target with an expanded grocery section, not a super target. It has a coffee place up front (starbucks).

Like all other targets it serves the function of convenience. It seems maybe some of the visitors to this target were expecting a different store. It is built like any other target.

I live in the heights and use it for the function it serves. This is for kitchen and bathroom items that I can easily run over to target and get at fair prices. The expanded grocery section allows me to get OJ, milk, bread or other items that I run out of. It definitely is more convenient than any other place in the vicinity.

Overall this is a plus for the neighborhood. :)

On another note the demolition of the old warehouse on the north side of Sawyer heights is complete. As soon as the torn down material is trucked away the progress for the heights can continue.

Also, the new bank on the property is coming along just fine. It will be a fine building!

This is where the apatments are going where the warehouses are torn down, I posted a picture over a month ago in this thread.

  12. There are already people I know complaining about the walmart built on 518 just east of 288. They say where did all the black people come from? I have been in there and it does not appear to represent the racial make-up of the area. But guess the lack of shopping to the north has a lot of people traveling down cullen to 518. I think the answer as to the lack of the development is right on with the school district and the south acres area along with the industrial businesses mostly along the west side as you get nearer to town

  13. What a difference a week makes? 27-7 W for Texans and another L for Dallas. Dallas doesn't do as well when playing teams with winning records. Whipping a team only 5 yrs. old might make the Irving Cowchips' fans elated, but Philly and NY will get the last laugh. Hell, the Texans may have the last laugh. We have a long way to go.

In Dallas, Giants pick and grin

It didn't matter who was at QB for the Cowboys. Neither Drew Bledsoe or Tony Romo made much hay, combining for four interceptions and six sacks in a 36-22 MNF defeat.

I thought it was funny they have been calling for Romo all year and were cheering for Romo when he came in and first pass he throws gets intercepted. thats priceless.

  14. You said it.

They will never understand because they are communist swine. They keep taking away a little more of our freedom everyday. They wish to turn us in to an abomination, like themselves, mindless robots roaming the land quietly like a herd. One of these idiotic city council members, I think Aida Edwards, said something to the effect that smoking is still legal and sex is still legal unless it is in public. I really don't see the relationship there. I wonder whats next on the list because it sure as hell isn't drugs. Maybe next it will be banning people from playing video games and watching movies because of their addictivness and unhealthy lifestyle it brings. Then we could outlaw fast food. Who needs that fatty stuff? Followed by any vehicle that gets less than 50mpg. We can force millions of people on to our polluted buses and help traffic flow at the same time. We could also ban people from wearing certain styles of clothing, due to the relationship to gangs.

Maybe instead, we should ban republicans and democrats from running for office. :P

every time i think i am done posting in this thread. I see that people still are not thinking about this straight and its probably a lost cause but dammit people pay attention now! here it goes.

unlike the stupid @ss arguements in this post smoking effects other people. when you choose to eat fast food you are not affedting the health of the person sitting next to you. The same with addictive movies/games?, pollution is controlled , however a neccessary evil in our society until there is a better alternative.

  15. Perhaps from the Skydome, Toronto -- The home of the Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB) was opened in 1989 and began the era of retractable roof stadiums. While other stadiums had previously been built with removable tops, a la Montreal's Olympic Stadium, the Skydome was the first to have a fully retractable roof. The roof consists of four steel panels and it moves along rails at a rate of 71 feet (21 meters) per minute and takes 20 minutes to open or close. When closing the roof, 72 motors are used to move the two panels backward and forward over a fixed panel like a telescope and a fourth panel rotates 180 degrees to completely close the roof.

or Bank One Ballpark, Phoenix -- Home to the Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball, Bank One Ballpark, or "the BOB," opened in 1998. In the searing heat of the Arizona desert, it was almost a necessity to have a ballpark that could be open during moderate days and closed and air-conditioned on hot summer days. Bank One's roof uses a system similar to a drawbridge. A pair of 200 horsepower motors drive the roof panels to open and close in just four minutes using four miles of cable strung through a pulley system.

or Safeco Field, Seattle -- Opened in 1999, baseball's Mariners said good-bye to the Kingdome and moved to Safeco. Safeco's roof is divided into three independent panels made of a thin gypsum and glass fiber board. A waterproof skin covers the panels. The three panels are staggered so that the roof can slide completely away from the field of play. The panels roll on motorized steel wheels that move over steel rails. The wheels are powered by 96 10-horsepower, DC motors. Power is provided by long cables that are reeled in and out as the roof slides open and shut. Opening and closing the roof is done at a rate of 30 feet (9.1 m) per minute and takes about 10 to 20 minutes.

Just about every stadium being built these days are with a retractable roof on it. Just makes more sense and takes any weather element out the way. Reliant was a long way from setting any precedence itself. Cowboys will open a new stadium in August 2009. When built, the stadium will have 75,000 seats and a retractable roof. It will feature open end zones linked to fan decks that will increase seating capacity to 100,000, making it the highest capacity domed stadium in the world in this configuration.

those are all baseball stadiums right? wasn't reliant the first nfl stadium to have a retractable roof?

  16. Just ONE more thing about our tangent on Waitstaff, west, you need to watch "Fight Club" if you haven't already. There is a part in that movie you need to seriously consider. I happen to own it, I'll let you borrow if you want.

I own it too, I guess I nead to rewatch it to catch your point.

May I suggest resevoir dogs to you, watch the opening scene in the restraunt for more on this topic. Funny stuff from Mr. Pink

  17. Wow! No one comment on the Dallas and Houston game yet? y'all must be really mad!!!

not mad. but dissapointed they have to get some more creativity in the running game or maybe it's all just lack of talent running the ball. Seth Payne going down will hurt this team too.
