  1. Okay don't laugh! but I was under the assumption that the Galleria was a tourist attraction? I have read somewhere that people come from around the world to shop there (maybe they don't know about Mall of America) -- by no means am I comparing to Vegas though. Does anyone know how many hotel rooms we have near The Galleria by any chance?
  2. Humble Tower has room service through The Marriott.
  3. You are right somewhat with the Galleria but it isn't that bad (People walk everywhere in Vegas, and they have huge lots). I have a friend who lives in Post Oak Lofts (catty corner from the Galleria) and we walk to the Galleria from time to time (not in the summer though) All and All Houston really isn't pedestrian friendly -- which is why everyone has cars I would imagine. Does anyone know if they are planning a light rail near the Galleria? And again maybe for the airports?
  4. Is prostitution that bad in the area? Or is it homeless prostituting themselves? I never have paid attention to the "prostitution" in the area, but the homeless I know is a major problem.
  5. I wonder if this is still in the works -- even after that finding that found over half of the waterways in Texas are failing safety requirements
  6. eh Midtown isn't a big (pedestrian) shopping area right now. I am not sure why Midtown hasn't taken off, its the perfect area to do so. Maybe Greyhound is hampering this area. If you wanted to live somewhere in the area w/o a vehicle, Id imagine it would be near the galleria. Unless you are wanting to use the bus system, which is slower than using a vehicle.
  7. I still don't think you can live downtown without a vehicle! There just isn't any shopping. For instance, the three nearest grocery stores are Randall's (which I stopped going to awhile ago -- this location seems to have very bad produce), Fiesta (I haven't been in there, so not sure about their quality) and Spec's within walking distance. Lately I have been going to Spec's for produce, meats and alcohol, and then to Target off of Sawyer for everything else (which is not in walking distance). All three of these grocery stores I could see someone not needing a vehicle, but you would have to take the train I would imagine.
  8. For the love of god they need to get rid of that cruise ship with its stern and bow cut off that is sitting right next to this new park! We need a new convention center imo. Honestly I like Orlando's old convention center -- there new one is just WOW, but I would settle for their old one, it still is very nice.
  9. Ahh, I thought you had been in it (I was wondering how, lol).
  10. When you say you have been there in person? What do you mean? You actually were inside the park area?
  11. We actually had a firm christmas party here a few years back (maybe 2002 or 2003) and it was very nice. Personally I liked Minute Maid Park better, was much more livelier.
  12. Actually it is going to be rather large. From pictures it doesn't seem to be large at all. But if you see this thing in person, you would be suprised. (It is no Central Park, but we don't need a Central Park in Houston)
  13. wait! I thought they were building a parking garage, not using an existing one! Can anyone confirm this? I thought the parking garage was going to be the lot closest to the Hilton Hotel. Nvm, I looked at the renderings of the new version and it looks like they are using the existing parking garage already in place.
  14. ~ wow ~ Very ugly. What is the need for having such a portico? Does he have 18 wheelers parked there alot?
  15. Wells Fargo Plaza has three levels of parking underground. I use to park there for about 300+ a month. My mother was at a different firm in the same building and paid 400+ for reserved a month.
  16. 6 Houston will not be on the Park. 6 Houston will be connected directly to 1 and 2 Houston via skywalk (well at least that is what Crescent said in the memo I received) which is a few blocks behind 5 Houston and Fulbright Tower. Currently I am in 5 Houston. The only location I can see this happening is between San Jacinto/Caroline and Rusk/Walker, which is a Parking lot at the moment.
  17. Main Street, between Dallas and Lamar (Across from Macy's) -- I live near this and see it everyday! That corner is awful!
  18. First thing they need to do is get rid the urine and chicken smell on that corner. GROSS! I visited Portland recently! wow their downtown is really developing. I was very very impressed with their use of using existing buildings and building stores in them, rather than tear them down. I think Houston downtown developers should go take a look!
  19. I haven't seen any signs. If you look right next to that nasty store across from The Corner Bakery, they are cleaning out that storefront that was boarded up for so long as well (next to Sakowitz Building).
  20. ok good. I do like that store -- I think I will go there again. The Randalls in Midtown just isn't -- well Randall's anymore! nuff said!
