Marriott Marquis: GRB Convention Center Hotel At 1777 Walker St.
Daniepwils replied to Subdude's topic in Downtown
The Marriott has two hotels downtown. The Courtyard and The Residence Inn, both of which seem to do very well during the week. Currently the only buildings right on the park are: The Convention Center, The Hilton, 5 Houston (my building) and Park Place (new Fingers res. building). As of right now there are three lots around the new park that have no buildings on them. Two of these lots will be starting construction within the next year or so. One will be an office building the other is the new Embassy Hotel. So that leaves one lot (one huge lot actually).- 2,096 replies

There should be a grocery store in downtown by the end of the year I would imagine. It is going to be at the corner of McKinney and Austin (in the new Park Place Building aka Fingers Building across from 5 Houston Center)

I heard this as well, I thought downtown was being bombed. I looked outside and saw them. Think of those really big fire works for the 4th of July (but they weren't going that high -- but they were just as loud).

nvm I realize what it is now, I just had a brain fart. (For some reason I was thinking it was on the otherside, behind the Montague) -

Does anyone have a clue as to what they will be doing with this lot? -
The Inauguration was today. It wasn't very long. At about 10 I hear this loud music in my office and I look outside and see a huge gathering on the park. There is still music right now, but about half the people have left. I don't have my camera (which I am pissed about at the moment) so no pictures from up here. edit: The Inauguration was not for the park, but for city council and the major. (Just didn't want to confuse anyone)

yes, all the grass for the great lawn is already laid down. As of right now they are adding the play ground structures and it looks like the are starting on the big lake.

Not to mention the fat and calorie intake of chain restaurants are worse than fast food chains.

Downtown on Saturday is almost always like this when there is something public at the GRB. Below is a link of what is or will be happening at the GRB. http://www.houstonconventionctr.com/meetin...s/calendar.html

You drove ! Coog get out of the car and walk around it 12 acres isn't tiny by any means. I bet a year from now, homeless will be cleaning themselves in the mist tree and water features of this park lmao!

They started laying grass down yesterday on the main lawn area. I will try to remember to bring my camera tomorrow and take pictures from my office.

They shouldn't be downtown at night, well at least they can't be loitering or sitting down anywhere -- they are breaking law if they do. Well Monday's downtown is pretty much dead all the time.

I agree with this. I jog downtown every evening, and can see the same thing.

GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
Daniepwils replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
I would think Mia Bella would move to the new location, not keep two restaurants open in the same area. That is to close for two restaurants serving the same area (it is only one train ride away from the other). As for American Apparrel, I think either they backed out, or they are waiting for HP to be built. -

Urban Outfitters is already at the Village, do you think they would put two that close? (I wish they would, I love that store) -

so they are using the bus stops as their place of business? CLASSY! (lol) Carol Alvorado is a joke. S. Jackson is a joke as well (with the exception of racial issues, which she handles very well). I have sent her many emails regarding several things as well as the mayor and it is always the same garbage sent back. I have left messages as well only to receive a response that has nothing to do with my issue.

Oh on the tunnel system. No there are no plans to directly link the tunnel to the Park. I don't think they can even do that now, they have already built and are almost finished with the underground parking garage. You could take the tunnel system to the Houston Centers and walk the sky bridges to 5 Houston Center, and walk across the street to the park if you wanted.
