  1. I think the focus should be on "filling in the gaps." Smaller buildings/mid-rises that bring the residents to Downtown. Fill in all those parking lots! There is a good balance among the heights of the skyscrapers, as well. One large, tall building might throw off the distinctive classic look we have now. Anyone remember the name of the 90+ story building that was planned for downtown before the oil/real estate bust?
  2. Place your bets: what do you think would be the most likely existing property on Kirby to be converted into a high/midrise structure? I'm placing my money on the gas station on the SW corner of Alabama @ Kirby. I still put my hopes behind the southwest corner of Richmond @ Kirby. You all know...where the club Jamaica Jamaica used to be!
  3. Whoa! Dr. Pepper is THE anti-hangover beverage. Who needs water to fight dehydration?
  4. You are so right! If any of you have not done your produce shopping at Spec's, do so the next time you're there picking up your rum and vodka. The prices are usually lower, and the selection is of higher quality. I was shocked when I found this out -- by accident. Check it out next time you're there.
  5. I just don't feel that this area should even be referred to as "Chinatown" anymore. From what I read on another thread, it seems that, though the city calls this "Chinatown," the various Asian communities place it somewhere miles to the west-southwest.
  6. The moment I saw this story on the net, I forwarded to everyone I knew from my time in Dallas that is now scattered across the country. I love these kind of juicy items!
  7. Well, so much has changed on Kirby. The old Anthony's and Hard Rock Cafe/Fire & Ice are gone; a Washington Mutual Bank is being constructed on the site. All the signs for 2727 Kirby seem to still be in place. Demolition of the buildings where this thread's development is going should begin in March. The River Oaks Gym (across from the old Page Parkes building) is merging with the One2One Fitness by my office at Kirby@59. (The new gym will expand to 2 floors total.) I was told they had to be out of their current facilities in March, since demolition would begin then. One more thing...if anyone ever hears of redevelopment of the property at Richmond @ Kirby (southwest corner, opposite Ninfa's and crosswise from Pappasito's), let me know. That spot is SCREAMING for a mixed-use site!
  8. From what I heard years ago, prior to annexation, from people that lived in Kingwood....many residents would apparently like to NOT have a Houston address.
  9. Then they need to tear the building that's there down already. I don't think I can live with the eyesore much longer!
