  1. The right has been on the Chicago train, no pun intended, ever since Obama took office. The NRA loves to use Chicago gun violence as proof that regulation doesn't matter (ignoring that Indiana is a part of the metro area and has stupid lax gun laws).

    Chicago has issues. But the most violent cities in American according to the latest FBI stats are;

    1) St. Louis

    2) Detroit

    3) Birmingham

    4) Memphis

    5) Milwaukee

    6) Rockford

    7) Baltimore

    8) Little Rock

    9) Oakland

    10) Kansas City

7 of the 10 largest cities are in states that voted RED in 2016. Why isn't the alt right harping on that? Hell, Missouri has two cities on the list, shouldn't Missouri be the punching bag instead of Illinois?

  2. Chicago isn't a failed city. That's just a talking point from biased sources.

Failed cities look nothing like Chicago.

Chicago isn't even in the top 30 for murder rates amongst cities with 25,000 or more residents.

That said, Chicago's crime rate on the South side is bad. But facts should matter.

  3. Let's replace that freeway with a gigantic lazy river that has tributaries to the Marriott's Texas pool and the grand swimming hole planned for somewhere near the Buffalo Bayou. Screw you, San Antonio river walk and step aside Comal/Guadalupe/Frio, we've got the I-69 Riverway.

  4. When was there a change in ownership?

This site used to be way more active 10 years ago. Lots of interesting people got either chased off or bored. It seems like the last few months, the board has been slowly drying up on new content other than the "bots." I kinda assumed it was because there aren't as many new projects now but maybe there's more to it...

  5. UH is trying to preserve parts of the Third Ward by partnering with all of the public schools in the neighborhood and creating an educational lab focused on raising the profile of the schools AND providing a hands on experience for future educators studying at UH. UH is also partnering with Project Row Houses after recently hiring Rick Lowe (UT-Austin came after him hard) to bring the arts to all. UH is also active with Wheeler Baptist and the senior housing they provide. Lastly, although I am sure there's more I am not aware of, UT Optometry provides members of the community free eye care in their new Health Science Bldg.

If there were insinuations that white community leaders in Montgomery County were actively pushing to stop the area from being predominantly white, I would expect the same rant.

Have you heard the typical politician from Montgomery County speak? It's not exactly welcoming of others.

Also, it's laughable that people think the Third Ward is too black but nary a complaint about Tanglewood or Kingwood. It's like they are deliberately ignorant of the reasons why historically black neighborhoods existed. Hint, it isn't because blacks wanted to live all by themselves, it was because they were required to.

Only in Houston could an area with 2 large universities be such a disaster and have people wanting to preserve it exactly as is segregation and all... Why would anyone want a neighborhood dominated by one ethic group in the 21 century? This should be a booming university neighborhood and it's not. UH needs to jumpstart cleaning up the area.

Do you direct this same rant to the residents of Montgomery County? It's 84% white. Third Ward was 67% African-American in 2010 and is more diverse now for sure. If you throw in UH/Riverside Terrace it's probably one of the most mixed neighborhoods in the city.

  8. I used to work at 806 Main. Main Street was active but not what the Chamber of Commerce would use to advertise the city. Buses would line up all along Main smoking up the air as they idled. Crazy folks every where. Open drug deals at the convenience store. And yes, the old Rice Hotel was simply an outdoor urinal.

That said, there was a fairly busy Foley's, a Woolworths, a Payless and a few other retail places.

  9. Thank God TDECU wasn't built next to the Feeder road off of I-45. Traffic would SUCK on game days and back up way more people than those going to the game. The current location allows people to come in off of 45, via Elgin, or via 288/MacGregor to Scott. Also, the light rail on game days has proven to be a huge plus. Having the stadium adjacent to a station is a much better situation. Thousands use it to get to the games.
