  1. hate to say it....but have you also noticed Wal-Mart doesn't really care to expand into minority areas....the Meyer Park store has no business not being a Supercenter since it's the only Wal-Mart close for people living along 610 from Meyer Park to Gulfgate and 3rd Ward, etc. Hence the large amount of crowds... They opened one up in my old area off of 2234 and Independence in the 80s and did decent business but a few shoplifting incidents caused them to move to 59 South and West Airport in the 90s which eventually created the freestanding Wal-Mart building boom of the 90s. Despite my old area never losing many residents, Wal-Mart has stayed only on Highway 6 and has yet to come back and will probably never....Home Depot has taken risks and came back but Wal-Mart won't
  2. With the Heights being outrageously overpriced for the world's smallest house...how long before the area known as Studewood off North Main north of 610 gets serious consideration from developers? The area features great access and is nothing but alot of churches and older homes and the kids aren't returning to settle in the area and the older residents are getting up in age. Do you think the area will shift since right across the freeway it's a boom? Is it time to start looking for land close to 610 hope for a nice profit?
  3. I'm a graduate of Prairie View A&M and I can remember when it TOOK FOREVER to get there when I used to ride to Navasota on Highway 290. Before I moved out of state, I lived by Willowbrook Mall for 3 years (loved the apartment complex) and also lived in Tomball by the hospital so I'm familiar with 2920's development and anything along Highway 290 and 249. Anyone who lives near the 249 and 1960 interchanges has the best of both worlds because two miles either way the areas are like night and day and you have access to plenty of unique places. Newquest has property on Bauer Road in between Ranch Country and Fairfield that I'm not mistaken will be a residential neighborhood. I know about Bridgelands plans on the south side of 290 but with Ranch County already established and Cypresswood Trails (whatever it's name) opening in front of Ranch County (Becker Road) will developers start to develop the city of Hockley, Waller and Prairie View since land is getting scarce or will they wait untl Bridgelands is built out and build offshoot neighborhoods? When I worked at PV, a developer stopped through and had plans to build a community at Kickapoo and 290 that included a community college, retail center and a football stadium he wanted Waller ISD and PV to join together in. I haven't heard anything since 2004 about the development. Anyone familiar with it? I took a drive to College Station recently and noticed along 290 by PV that some large land company has bought ALL of the 290 frontage from Waller to Hempstead. Is anything in the works down the line or it's just pure speculation?
  4. It was tolerable when it was Fame City...but it seemed like it took forever to get there as kid before the Highway 6 expansion... I went there in 2000 and it was obvious the area's demographics had an impact on the place...it was a glorified hangout and half the items in there were useless..... at one time, Fame City had a food court with numerous selections and every ride worked...it was like 10 tickets for $10 or so....eventually, a lot of the food places stopped opening up and rides were broken often
  5. Peppermint Park I remember was where the beltway and 59 south meet now....it had some nice rides in it but it seemed like half the train tracks in there never worked... I remember Nathan's Phimsical Whymsical in Sharpstown Mall....it had a shadow room, a mirror maze, a big jumping castle... Westwood Mall had extensive renovations in 1991 or so...it had a 2-story merry-go-round. Mountain Park...I never figured out its purpose...I went there once... wasn't there 2 malibus in the SW Houston area? my father remembered playland park but he grew up in the time where he could go only on certain days...
