ltimately, the decision of which city will host the ARPA-H hub will come down to a number of factors, including the strength of the bids, the political climate, and the availability of funding. However, both Houston and Dallas are excellent candidates and either city would be a great fit for the hub.

    State or local climate?

  2. I frequent Midtown and Downtown,  it doesn't seem as bad as it used to be.  The worst was when it was a free for all under 59 near Fiesta and at Wheeler Station.  Even the area under 45 near Hutchins and Pierce has recently been cleared out.  Can't forget about the corner of Herman Park that was out of hand till they had the od incident.

  3. Top Houston restaurateur plans to resurrect Eldorado Ballroom with new cafe-market, art gallery, and star-studded concerts

    Quote

In its role as operator, Lucille’s Hospitality Group, lead by James Beard Award Outstanding Restaurateur nominee Chris Williams, will have three venues in the building: the Hogan Brown Gallery, Rado Cafe & Market, and the Eldorado Ballroom.

All three venues are expected to open permanently in May and June, but Houstonians will get a sneak peek this Saturday, April 22 with Lucille’s seventh annual Prince Day. Held to commemorate the anniversary of Prince’s death on April 21, 2016, festivities kick off with an outdoor market from 1-6 pm that will preview many of Rado Cafe & Market’s vendors. From 8 pm - midnight, the Eldorado Ballroom will host a Prince tribute concert. General admission tickets are priced at $35. VIP tickets, priced at $77, include food prepared by Burrell, early admission to the venue, and priority access to table seating. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

The nonprofit that operates the BCycle system of bikes available for checkout at kiosks around the city, “has been unable to complete a partnership agreement,” with Metropolitan Transit Authority, bike share board chairwoman and interim CEO Maya Ford said in an update. Specifically, Ford said Metro has confirmed it would not provide any of the $500,000 transit officials approved to transition bike sharing into the transit agency’s operations.

The thing is... the DOME CAN be used.  It seems the best (and fairly obvious) use is the $217 Million proposal that was poorly promoted and ignorantly voted down a few years back.  An Exhibition facility to add to the existing convention/exhibition facilities of NRG Center.  The car show was interested in using it.  OTC would use it. Rodeo and the Texans could certainly use it.  It is a sad time for Houston that we cannot come up with the resources and imagination to make use of an historic structure. (Dallas is in the beginning stages of spending Billions of Dollars to build a new convention center, and Houston/Harris County can't figure out how to come with a quarter billion to do an exciting renovation of the Dome?  PATHETIC AND EMBARRASSING)  Where are the dreamers and doers that made Houston; the type of people who built a city out of nothing at Allens Landing, turned an inland city one of the world's largest seaports, brought us Bush Intercontinental Airport and, indeed, brought us the 8th Wonder of the Modern World, the Astrodome itself?

We need a modern version of the suite in the old downtown hotel where leaders gathered to make things happen.  We need LEADERSHIP at the county and city levels!

If spending around a quarter billion dollars...how about use 30 million to demolish and build a purpose built building with the remaining 220 million.  Shoehorning something into out dated sports stadium that will get minimally used is a waste.

After their meetings during the day, they were shocked that there wasn't anything for them to do or see after work.

Bar-hopping and taco trucks at Discovery Green are fine, but not everyone lives like they're in college.

I'm always curious what others suggest to do for out of town visitors. Food and drink are my usual go to unless there is an event happening.

I thought the original plan for the "tower" was hotel.

You're right supposed to be a boutique hotel.

But my bet is that no matter what direction they go, the next thing they'll do is build a parking garage.

I hope not.  There is parking in the area if you walk a couple of blocks.
