I would go to those Whole Foods on occasion because it was the closest grocery store to me. It always seemed dead when I would go. It never gained the traffic of other Whole Foods.

This is what much of 'old' Montrose' looked like in the early eighties. The fence, the trees, the lush gardens instead of a lawn...
Perhaps landscapes such as these were responsible for the songbirds that seemed to be everywhere. Those two-townhouses per lot barely have room for landscaping.
Maybe that's why the number of songbirds seems to have dwindled.- 1

There are definitely some growing pains with these well executed bike lanes in this city. Residents in each neighborhood are having a hard time wrapping their heads around the idea that some people prefer not to drive. Even Council member Shabazz continues to bash these lanes on Blodgett saying they cause traffic. She's the moron who said the new highway connection from 610 to 45 was a transit solution for students while data shows that fewer and fewer young people are opting in to getting a license or a car.
Blodgett complaints mainly coming from current and former TSU students.

Yeah these new transit centers are disappointing with no residential or retail component.

I "won" a lifetime membership with BCycle last "Tour de BCycle." I will miss it.
I would be thrilled for Metro's development but they're all e-bikes and I use the system for exercise.
Maybe it's time to buy a bike...maybe.
Myself and I believe another HAIFer also got lifetime memberships last year.

Oh boy. This should probably be moved. But I'll dip in for a bit
Most people in the States haven't experienced a functioning public transportation system comparable to Europe or SE Asia. So when they say it won't work here I wonder what metrics they're using? If your cities transit is underfunded and poorly routed... Of course it sucks.
Txdot is an outlier when it comes to funding. Most states can't fund their highway network and rely on tolls or federal funds. This will present challenges in the future as ev adoption increases. Gas prices have been all over the place the last few years so locking in a fixed price with electric will benefit people with the means to do so.
Not having any alternative to using a private vehicle makes everyone immediately concerned about gas prices. The US should have learned it's lesson in 70s like other countries but why do that when your government thinks it's in control with the petrodollar and will invade/coup countries with oil.
As for the weather being a factor... eh people need to get outside more .. I walked and took public transportation in HK in July, not 100f but extremely humid upper 80s. Maybe Americans are too soft and asking them to walk, ride a bike, or be slightly inconvenienced is too much. I've seen enough people complain about how they can't park right in front the entrance to not doubt this.

Yes just the restaurant portion. I would ask for more details but someone commented that it wasn't supposed to be public knowledge. My guess is they plan to rearrange seating to focus on stage and retool menu for basic service.

FWIW, they appear to be taking restaurant reservations well into late October (I checked for October 20, to be specific).
Hmm I don't have answer for that I just know what I heard and what was posted(private FB page).

I have no reason to doubt the source considering industry/HOB connections. End of the month supposed to be last day.

Not sure if I'm misremembering but didn't there used to be an afterhours club on the top floor of this building. This would have been early 00s.
-
Ugh so much parking in the back I hope they do something worthwhile out front.

I heard they plan to replace the restaurant with a comedy club.

The Powder Keg launched an NFT sale last year to finance the construction of this version of the building. The open-air venue is a temporary building. The new building will be at 1300 Brittmoore. No update available since the launch just over a year ago.
The NFT thing sounds like a marketing gimmick and it's just a membership with benefits that you can sell.

I hate to say I called it when I thought Gatsbys expansion was "ambitious"

This looks really nice. Can't wait for the opening.

I'm disappointed like everyone else about this being a Dollar Tree. Although I'm sure at some point I'll stop by here to buy some random stuff on occasion.

So running for presidential election is now a "get out of jail free" card?

I could see some companies requiring people to take the train between Houston and DFW for work. My company requires train travel vs flying unless it's over a certain number of hours for Europe. They also won't allow you to drive or take your personal vehicle if it's over certain number of miles in the US. I'm sure if this route gets built they would require people to take train based on safety and on time performance...cost wouldn't be the determining factor because we already have people that fly from HOU-DFW/DAL for work.

We went to the UK for 10 days at the beginning of the month. We rode the train from London to Edinburgh. It's 450 miles and takes 4 1/2 hours using the Hitachi Azuma trainsets https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_801
The top speed is 125mph, so the tracks don't have to be super special.
It strikes me that this would be a better solution than the bullet trains. The RoW could run up 45, and the curve radius restrictions would be less of an issue. 2 hours or so to Dallas on a comfortable train soundsreasonable.
Instead of running into eminent domain issues with rural landowners they would have issues with businesses along 45 until they get past Conroe. The TCR alignment avoided this by running elevated along the Hempstead railway.
Your route alignment would be great for a TXDOT project since they own ROW(only they know future expansion plans) and could stop at smaller cities along the way to get their buy in. Could even make a stop at the Greenspoint Mall to allow people to utilize long term parking, rental car, and airport. And for people saying all those stops would make for a longer ride just have express trains with zero stops.- 1

This heat has been horrible for trees. I see a few struggling trees in the pictures.
