Are we saying the women's center has character? I feel bad that the women's center isn't gonna be there anymore, but check out Pasadena, Friendswood, Deer Park, old Pearland, and Soho if you want to see brick buildings that prolly still has asbestos in the roof tiles.
Those aren’t Houston though. My biggest issue is that it’s always written off as just this one but then you get that time, after time, after time and before you know it they are all gone.

Good god that is a lot of development! Here's to hoping it all come to fruition.

I wonder if it is 42 residential floors with a maintenance floor above and then a concrete ceiling for the maintenance floor that is basically another floor, i.e. the roof. That's the only was I can square it lol

Why were so many blocks leveled, was it apart of the disastrous unban renewal movement?

When someone says "day care" the usual assumption is that it's in reference to children, so the "adult" qualifier is necessary. "Adult day care" is generally understood to refer to places that provide services to elder adults (often with dementia or requiring medical care) or those with developmental disabilities in order to give full-time family caregivers some respite.
That a very demeaning phrase in my opinion for elder services. I though it was a joke about some bar or something.

^^^ i am not at all certain of "CHROME" street lights. however, these huge chrome address numbers are at a hotel site featuring a high level of pedestrians/workers/officials all over the place. normally, street lights are situated upon the streets.
however, the level of "danger" would be subjective...
All of the street lights on Post Oak are chrome and are on the sidewalk.

^^^ those very shiny chrome numbers in the upper illustration, are rife for a quick lightning strike. texas thunderstorms can be really dangerous. also, they need to hurry-up and turn on that fountain in the lower illustration. those very ugly plants are dying fast...
How are they any more dangerous than a street light?

For a pretty standard apartment complex this one is pretty attractive.

I for one am glad this is for sale. Apache was in no hurry to do anything with this land.

I still always get excited seeing updates for this project. It just felt too ambitious for Houston, something that would never happen or would come massively scaled down.

We cant keep anything with character in this city can we? Hopefully this will look better than the renderings. This has a slight commie block look to it.

All three for retired aged people right? Super excited about this tower. Now we just need some of those empty/underdeveloped lots to see some love.

Looks like they're some motion on this! This would be Houston's tallest self storage?
The year is 2071. Houston has just seen completion of it's third 300+ meter supertall. All are self storage facilities with another half dozen on the books ready to start construction.

The park will really be in a bowl of high-rises with this and the tower on block 98. I can't wait to see what it will look like in 2-4 years time.

Nothing embodies gentrification more than a former “African Art center” being torn down to build a giant warehouse to store yuppie’s disposable income in the form of excess consumerism.

The atmosphere would be one of people rushing past empty buildings. There's a reason there are vacant lots - there's no demand for a building on them. And, with something like 24% vacancy, it will be a while before demand increases enough to make building anything economic.
Yeah I got that. I'm just saying imagine if our downtown was what we would love for it to be instead of acres and acres of surface parking between all of the developed areas.

This is such a Vegas looking building and I mean that as a complement. This is our most “Vegas” part of town and fits in quite well.

Just think of the atmosphere at the street level if all the surface lots were buildings that actually contributed to the neighborhood.

Any body of fresh water in the Houston area could potentially have alligators.

There would be no legal or constitutional basis for doing this. Part of the right to own property is the right not to sell it. This was a natural right before a lot of other things that people consider natural rights.
On the other hand, the city has condemned property in this part of town when it was needed for the Toyota Center.
You could create tax incentives or penalties that could help push development though.

I would so love for a high rise residence to be built on the other half of the lot that the Houston Ballet school is on. Basically I dream of Hines having at least one 40+ story residential under construction at all times near market square.

Love love love the curvature of the building. The rounded corners and the concave faces are very different for Houston.
