Anything new on this project?? What a freakin' disaster. I used to live directly behind this location on Allston; but sold years before this madness happened. Me and my neighbor knew it was inevitable after all the development down by 6th and 5th happened around 2010. I suppose this is a catch-22 situ now; to huge to be affordable to demo and build, been sitting too long to finish it due to uncertainty of structural integrity. Anyone in the know? Thanks! Nealio
Drove by the other day and its presence is quite jarring. It looks terrible now.

Another building that became another massive disappointment and stopped being remotely interesting. The one building planned that had some vision to it. At least it doesn't look preposterously ugly like many other "value engineered" buildings in Houston. But it will hardly standout against the rest of the TMC skyline now and nobody will remember this building two years after its finished. I mean, does the TMC really need another hospital. Being the largest collection of hospitals in the world still isn't enough? They have to lap every city on Earth two times in the number of hospital beds? The original idea at least added much needed medical office and lab space and a nice residential component.
Well Houston is massively over saturated with office space so this is no surprise not to mention I cant imagine our need for more housing is going to be very strong for awhile. It's still a handsome building and much better than what currently is on the land. Plus there are several severely under developed lots near by that could become what the old tower was. How spoiled are we to be sad at the announcement of a 35 story building.

Are they planning on removing the concrete?

I don’t care what some people say about this place I am soooo excited to finally view this museum space in its final form. I am a big fan of Mafh as it is and just can not wait to see this jewel of our city complete.

Those metal panels will go well with the Marriott and the Hess tower.

I like it! I wonder if that top part is one epic penthouse with a massive outdoor area or and amenities area like a pool.

I like that design but why is there a wall separating it from the sidewalk? That forces long detours for pedestrians and discourages walking. Walkability is a key urban feature.
People who buy $1.2 million condos do not want people that have to walk places anywhere near them.

No spin here. Just trying to stick to the facts. Contrary to your claim, the plans for the glass tube exterior of the new museum, building were not revised. Yes, the pictures of the model appear to show a different material. But guess what? The pictures of the model also don’t match the renderings or the architect’s descriptions of the glass tubes.
Also I doubt that they will make the sidewalks out of cardboard like the model.- 2

Hey so did Franks offically close their doors? They weren’t open today.
I saw that franks outdoor patio thing which is a separate entity closed permanently. I don’t know if Franks original pizza place is closed or not.- 1

I know it’s a medical school but which university is it? I just can’t tell from the renderings, not enough signage.

From the highway I thought it was a banner, because why would they make a permanent now leasing sign?
Because a building this size is always going to have apartments for lease. My building has a banner that says this it’s now leasing and it was built in the 90’s.

I think we could very well witness the closure of some local Houston bars and restaurants.
As someone who has worked in that industry for awhile now this is a massive understatement. If we have to socially distance past May there won’t be many restaurants left unless the government really steps up to the plate.

Well that's life in the city. You can't expect any lot to be developed into anything that fits into your own personal preferences unless you pony up and buy the land and do the developing yourself.

I wondered if this crazy virus situation was affecting any of the current construction going on...but i guess not! thanks for the update!
I think the stuff that is already started or has full financing could be alright but all of the proposed stuff is definitely on shaky ground.

The only place I've witnessed concrete pours is downtown, which doesn't have much traffic on weekends, and plenty of alternate routes.
I assume at some point there will have to be a pour for this project, and it seems like the logistics will be more difficult in a densely occupied area with few thoroughfares.
Any thoughts on how this will be accomplished?
Do you mean massive concrete mat foundations or whole concrete buildings because I can't remember the last high rise that was built anywhere in Houston that wasn't reinforced concrete.

I live in upper Kirby and drive all the way to Porsche north Houston because Sonic dealerships are the worst. I’ve bought 7 Porsches since 2007. Sonic is so bad I’ll drive 15 miles up 45 to avoid them. Also Porsche of North Houston is awesome and now is attached to the Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, McLaren dealership.

The Post Oak bus lanes still haven't opened. I doubt this is dead, just very much delayed.
And the work they are doing at Post Oak and Richmond is still a looong way from being finished.

They must be on a serous time crunch with this building. I walked by at 12:30 am and they were installing the glass.

They have a mixed use development built off Washington.
But HEB didn't develop that land. Someone else did and got HEB to come on-board later.

Quick question which is off topic. Who owns the land the surface parking lot is on? It seems like an ideal spot for a mixed use high rise.
Yeah that area has a ton of foot traffic especially at night. They could add five new bars on the ground floor and all of them would print money.

Well the art deco movement began right about 100 years ago so in true Houston tradition these must to torn down lest we have designs that are near or over 100 years old. All to be replaced by a pine framed, hardie plank clad beige block of units that will look dated before the first tenant even moves in.

Okay I have absolutely no knowledge of construction so I guess my question is what is all the drilling into the ground for before they lay the mat?

I thought almost all large buildings here have piles. Every tower I've see on this forum seems to have pilings.

It maybe an unpopular opinion but I like the green on the cosmo. It’s a color that isn’t used as much and I wish it was. Lord knows we have a billion blue grey glass buildings.
